Susan Fereday Biography

I was born in Salt Lake City Utah in 1959. I am the fifthchild of six children. I have 2 older sisters and 2 olderbrothers and one younger half- brother.. My fatherpassed away when I was a young girl. I was blessedwith a good step father who provided us with manyopportunities to experience the outdoors and to live agood life. We learned to snow ski, water-ski, fish, hike, camp, dirt bike from my step-father and mother. Icontinue to enjoy most of these activities in myadulthood except the dirt biking. We lived in Utah untilI was at the age of 8. We moved to California, I livedthere until the age of 12. We then moved to CastleRock Colorado where I attended both Junior High andHigh School.I was married in 1977 right out of High School to ArthurStark who was from Franktown Colorado. We had 4Children from 1978 to 1985 Amy, Arthur, Aaron andAlan. We lived in Craig, Colorado and HaydenColorado, Maybell, Colorado and a short 3 year stay in Pleasant Grove Utah. We later divorcedand I married Andre Fereday in 1994 we have one child together Laura who is 16. Currently Ihave 5 wonderful grandchildren Brennen, Katelyn, Marley, Gamble and, Roderick .Career- I have always had entrepreneurial spirit. I created and ran several businesses prior tocoming to State Farm. I had a lawn service, upholstery shop, cleaning service, daycare, soldencyclopedias, sold handmade items. Later I opened and ran a butcher shop in Hayden Coloradowere we did custom meat cutting for wild game and farm animals. I attend the Rocky MountainSchool of meat cutting in Denver to become a trained and certified meat cutter. After the sale of the Butcher shop I went to work for Routt Memorial hospital for a short time intheir business department. I then started working for a State Farm agent in Steamboat SpringsColorado in 1991. Selling insurance was a natural fit for me and I loved it. Knowing that aneducation was what I needed to unlock opportunity for me I enrolled in college classes in theevening.State Farm was a great company to be aligned with for me, I loved their values and how they tookcare of the customer and they loved my values in doing business and my desire to take care of thecustomer. They offered me an agency in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1993. This was a greatopportunity to help me provide for my family. I was an agent for 14 years, earning many awardsand sales recognitions during that time. I served on the board of the National Association ofFinancial Advisors for several years and was a member throughout my career. In 2006 StateFarm then asked me to consider joining their Leadership team. I felt it was a great opportunity forlearning and development of myself. I have been a lifelong learner and this change supported that in me. I managed over 40 agents and their team members. I was also responsible teamdeveloping, sales coaching and recruiting of new agents. The one thing I have loved about mycareer is having the opportunity to help others grow and development and to help them increasetheir earning power and self- confidence. I then requested a transfer back into agency in 2012and was given the State Farm Agency in Estes Park on June 1 2012. I loved management but Ireally missed the face to face contact with the customer and developing and managing my ownagency team. I have earned several designations within the insurance industry; LUTCF( life underwriters

Rotarian Candidate9/28/12

I believe myself to be a solid candidate for Rotaryfor a number of reasons. First and foremost, I havea servant’s heart. I love what Rotary does for thecommunity and mankind – the “spokes” of Rotaryare far reaching and life changing – both for theRotarian and the recipients of Rotary’s many gifts.

All of my previous occupations have been“customer service” based, complementing my loveand commitment to service. (Please see attachedResume) I am an energized organizer, a motivator, and a go-getter! I feel my talents wouldcomplement Rotary.

I have grown up hearing “Rotary”. My grandfather,Burnell C. Helmich, was a very proud Rotarianbeginning somewhere in the 1950’s and includedthe role of President at the Chicago O’Hare Rotary. Upon his relocation to Estes Park in the late 1970’safter a short stay in Southern California, he joinedthe EP Rotary until he moved to Florida and died in1986. My “Papa” would be ever so proud of my desire to be a part of the same organization heso loved and served.

I thank you for your consideration of my application. I very much look forward to the prospect of“serving”.

The Shields live near the top of Pole Hill; poorFaustine comes from a fairly flat landscape near sea level, so her firstexperience in Estes Park was an eye-opener!

At home, Faustine took seven years of English, three years of Spanish, and one year of Chinese. We can learn a lot from her! She is the third ofthree children in her family. She took the initiative by herself to contacther local Rotary club to become an exchange student to the UnitedStates.
