You may recall that a few weeks ago we communicated regarding a
project our club was working on to send some relief supplies to a fel-
low Rotary club in northern Japan. One of our club members, Mark
Cleveland, is president of the Swiftwick sock company here in Brent-
wood. Swiftwick is coming out with a new line of specialty socks and Mark and his partners approached our club about trying to coordinate
a shipment of socks to Japan following the earthquake and tsu-
nami. Long story short, we were able to make contact with the Kita-
kami Rotary Club in northern Japan and they agreed to accept deliv-
ery of the socks and coordinate with their local government to distrib-
ute the socks to people displaced by the recent disaster.
Surprisingly, finding a Rotary Club in Japan to receive the socks just
a few weeks after such a major disaster was the easy part. Finding a
relatively affordable way to ship over 14,500 pairs of socks weighing
862 lbs. to northern Japan in the wake of the disaster and the continu-
ing nuclear situation ended up being a much greater chal-lenge. Through the outstanding efforts of a couple of local Fed Ex
staff members, we were finally able to ship the socks last Friday and
they should arrive in Kitakami on Thursday the 28th. I have attached a
press release regarding this project.
The final shipping costs were $1,800 which is expensive but ended up
being a greatly discounted price compared to initial quotes. Fed Ex
was also able to work out a waiver of Japanese tariffs and taxes so the
Kitakami Club would not have any fees to pay. This project idea
came up about two days after our club had just spent $2,000 purchas-
ing two shelter boxes in response to the disaster in Japan. Needless to say, the $1,800 shipping cost is a little more than our club can handle
on its own. We worked out a temporary way to cover the shipping
costs so the socks could get to Japan, but we are now looking for
some help to repay the shipping costs. We were hoping that some
other clubs in District 6760 may have a little money left in their Inter-
national project budgets for this Rotary year and might be willing to
assist us in this project. I can honestly say that any amount of support
would be greatly appreciated. If any Clubs wish to donate to this ef-
fort, they can send a check made payable to the Brentwood Morning
Rotary Club to:
Brentwood Morning Rotary P.O. Box 1503
Brentwood TN 37024
If we should be so lucky as to collect more than the $1,800 in ship-
ping costs, we would propose to send any excess funds to the Rotary
International Japan Disaster Relief Fund in the name of District 6760.
On behalf of our club members, I appreciate any assistance you can
provide in communicating this opportunity to the other clubs in Dis-
trict 6760.
Kirk Bednar, President Brentwood Morning Rotary Club
The Rotary Foundation's goal is for EVERY ROTARIAN.
TO GIVE $100. EVERY YEAR. To support this goal Dis-
trict 6760 is launching the STAR CLUB Designation Pro-
gram during this Rotary year. The program has been a
great success in other Rotary Districts. It is the District’s intent to properly recognize the Rotary Clubs that meet or
exceed their annual giving goals on a per capita basis each
year. Our District will recognizes as a STAR CLUB every
club whose annual contribution to the Annual Program
Fund averages $100 or more per member. (Per capita cal-
culation based on APF giving). In order for a club to re-
ceive STAR CLUB designation and be recognized at the
District Conference, the club MUST turn in its Annual
Fund contributions by March 31 each year. This will allow
enough time to determine which clubs will be recognized
at the annual District Conference. Clubs that meet the goal
by June 30th will be lauded by the District Governor dur-ing the annual visit to the club. Also, there will be a spe-
cial list of the STAR CLUBS displayed on the District's
web site and listed in the annual District Directory. Desig-
nation as a STAR CLUB adds prestige to the Rotary clubs
that achieve this annual level of support for our Rotary
Foundation. Every year each Rotary Club can add more
stars. Clubs that continue to show full support
for The Rotary Foundation's Annual Fund year after year
will be classified as a 2 STAR CLUB, 3 STAR CLUB, 4
STAR CLUB, 5 STAR CLUB, to 10 SUPER STAR
CLUB, etc. It is our goal to have every club in our District 6760 designated as a Star Club within the next three
years. What better way is there for all of us to affirm our
belief in the incredible programs and projects made possi-
ble by the Rotary Foundation? Begin now to explain and
motivate your Rotary club to become a STAR CLUB this
first year of the program.

From the Governor… Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Our District Newsletter is back!!!!!
Absent for the past few months, our Dis-
trict Newsletter has returned under the
able editorship of Paige Ashe-McLean,
member of Savannah Rotary. Paige has
worked hard to give us this newsletter and is anxious to help
you use and benefit from it. Thank you Paige.
This is your newsletter to be used by you to promote club
events, recognize members, and share Rotary experiences.
Communication is one of the greatest challenges we face,
and is especially difficult in a district as geographically large
as ours. This newsletter is one way we can use to build com-
munity among our clubs and between the clubs and district.
Each of our sixty-two clubs has wonderful community pro-
jects, fund raisers, special members and events to be shared.
You have them, now brag about them. And best of all, your
successes can inspire others to greater accomplishments.
Governor Jim

A Festival for the Whole Family Coming Soon to Rock Creek Park Put this winter weather in the rear view mirror and get ready for the summer at the Lewisburg Rotary Club’s Festival on
the Rocks featuring Prichard’s BBQ Cook-off. The Lewisburg Rotary Club has put together a huge festival event at
Rock Creek Park in Lewisburg, TN for June 3 and 4, 2011. It will be two days of fun for the whole family as Dad can
test his grillin’ skills at the Prichard’s BBQ Cook-off or marvel at the hot rods and hot rides at the Cruise-In. Mom can
browse the yard sale bargains along with the arts and crafts as the little ones can enjoy rides and games galore. And everyone can
enjoy a day and evening of great music live on the Rock Creek
Park stage featuring Nora Mills, Us, Two & Him, Mike Mosier
Band and special guest headliners Joey + Rory. Fresh off their
Academy of Country Music Awards nomination for Top Vocal
Duo, husband and wife team Rory Lee Feek and Joey Martin Feek
will take the stage at Rock Creek Park to perform their hits. After
winning last year’s ACM Top New Vocal Duo award, Joey + Rory
have hit the big time in country music but they still find time to
cook and perform at their restaurant just down the road in Potts-
ville, MarcyJo’s. Do not miss this performance as Joey + Rory
bring their sensational live show to Rock Creek Park. And if that isn’t enough, the Rotary Festival on the Rocks will host a 5K Fun
Run and a Cornhole Tournament, a Silent Auction of unbelievable
items, tethered hot-air balloon rides and the inaugural Little Miss &
Mr. BBQ Contest. But for you grillers and sauce connoisseurs, it’s
all about the BBQ Cook-Off. This year, Prichard’s Distillery from
Kelso, TN is sponsoring the BBQ Cook-off that has been a great
success the past four years as part of the Goats, Music and More
Festival. This year’s BBQ Cook-off is destined to be the best yet
with more professional and backyard cookers serving up chicken,
pork ribs, pork, brisket and their own special sauce made with
Prichard’s Distillery products. The Lewisburg Rotary Club’s Festi-val on the Rocks and the Prichard’s BBQ Cook-off has been a year in the making to help the Lewisburg Rotary Club
raise money for a host of community and global services. The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self” and the Lewisburg
Rotary Club has been serving Lewisburg, Marshall County and those in need around the world providing funding for
scholarships, funding for the fight against polio, funding for housing in third-world countries and donations of items and
supplies for several local charities and organizations that provide and supply much needed services in Marshall County.
Come help this mission continue and have a whole bunch of fun in the process as the Rotary Festival on the Rocks and
the Prichard’s BBQ Cook-off comes to Rock Creek Park in Lewisburg, TN on June 3 and 4, 2011. Events and activities
including the musical entertainment and the BBQ Cook-off are sponsored by the Lewisburg Rotary Club, Prichard’s
Distillery, First Commerce Bank, First Farmers and Merchants Bank, First National Bank and Lyons Chevrolet-Buick-
GM of Lewisburg.

Quote of the Month:
No strangers at a convention
"I commend to you the opportunity for
a rare fellowship with men and women
from many lands. There are no strang-
ers in a Rotary Convention. Introduc-
tions are unnecessary. To participate in friendship,
show yourself friendly. Your personal enthusiasm
imparted to others will make of this the greatest con-
vention for you that Rotary has ever held."

District provides global grant scholar with a world of opportunity
Jessica Clendenning wants to make life better for people in
poor communities by sharing best practices for sustainable de-
velopment. A Rotary Foundation Global Grant scholarship
sponsored by District 6150 (Arkansas, USA) is helping her
realize that goal. Her global grant scholarship supports the eco-nomic and community development area of focus under the
Foundation’s Future Vision Plan. It is the first of three global
grant scholarships sponsored by District 6150. A good working
relationship with District 1600, the host district in the Nether-
lands, was instrumental in providing Clendenning with a posi-
tive and smooth scholarship experience, especially in arranging
a host counselor and club, Warner explains. “Many of the same
promotional strategies for Ambassadorial Scholarships can be
used for global grant scholarship applicants,” says Warner,
who advises districts to get an early start and work hard to find
qualified candidates. The scholarships cover most expenses and
fund graduate-level study, he adds, which are “true advantages for the student to gain education to really make a difference.”
The grant minimum is $30,000, but scholarship funding is
based on the district’s financial resources and the students’
