Our guests were Lei Graham (Wanganui Club President 2015/16) and Nigel Ramsden (Assistant Governor 2015/16) Our new President Terry had rowed for Union some years ago and, apparently, still does the occasional sculling. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a Paul Harris Sapphire award to Cranleigh Chainey and a Paul Harris Award to his wife Margaret. Both were well deserved. Cranleigh joined the club in 1975 and over the years has held all positions possible including President in 1986/87. He has been director of committees that have raised significant funds for projects undertaken by the club. In 1998/99 he was Director of the International Committee which raised about $34,000 to reroof and refurbish classrooms at St Andrews school in Tonga and last year he was Director of the Bushy Park Project committee when the club raised $37,000 to upgrade the Wetlands area at Bushy Park. Cranleigh has also been heavily involved with the social club and membership drives. Margaret has been a great supporter of the club and of Rotariannes. She has been on the social committee for as long as Cranleigh and worked as hard on the Bushy Park project as anyone.

DIARY

4th July Rotariannes Coffee Morning

At Element Café 10am

Iain, passed the chain of office to Terry, and reflected on the year which had passed so quickly, a year which he had enjoyed immensely. He considered it to have been an honour to have led such a great group as Wanganui North, a group who had fun. Sue inducted Terry, who although not long a member of this club, had a good knowledge of Rotary as he had been a Rotary member for many years while residing in Hawkes Bay. Terry introduced his Board and indicated that little would change during his year as President. We were fed well by Essence Caterers (Joe Power) and entertained by the Wanganui City College Kapa Haka Group who had recently been placed third in the Regional Championships.

Rotariannes Coffee Morning

At Element

10am Saturday 4th July

Stephanie is still collecting goods to give to those that suffered the most as the result of the flooding, and some lost almost everything as they had to evacuate without warning. She is looking for bedding, toys, towels, kitchen equipment, in fact anything that might be of use for flood victims. As Stephanie is moving this weekend she would appreciate any goods you might have available to be dropped off at the Salvation Army shop (Corner of Dublin St and the Avenue). Just tell them it is for the flood victims and that it is from Steph and Rotary North. Shane Stone Builders is accepting donations of non-perishable food items to be donated to Foodbank to assist those that have been impacted by the recent flooding. Staff are seeing first-hand the devastation of homes in the area. Office hours are currently 9am – 2pm and are located at 22 Dublin Street. The company will organise the delivery of the food to foodbank. If anyone has any queries they can ring me at the office between 9am and 12 noon or on my company cellphone 021 300 475. Kind regards Tee-Jay Does any member know a contact for a former member, John Hackshaw and his wife Carmen. If so, would you please contact Garth.
