The city has an international airport. Rostov-on-Don occupies an area of 354 sq km , and its population now exceeds 1 million.

The city was founded in the year 1749 by the Decree of Empress Elizabeth on the establishment, at the Temernik river month, of custom-house which was supposed to be protected by the military Fortress of Saint Dmitri of Rostov , the latter founded in 1761.

The settlements that grew around the Fortress were first mentioned as Rostov-on-Don in the Decree issued by Emperor Alexander first on 17 August 1807.

The reliability of Rostov-on-Don as a business partner has been attested by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development which undertakes crediting of the projects aimed at the refurbishment of municipal public transport and social life.

Under development is at the moment a project for the creation of a free custom zone named «The Southern Gate of Russia» which would unite different facilities of Rostov-on-Don and the Region in order to expand the export and import exchange of goods, capitals and services offered by Russia at the southern territory.

Rostov-on-Don is a large educational and scientific centre. There are also 543 architectural monument, 57 monuments of archaeology, 18 monumental art archaeology of a Federal significance.

We have chosen this subject because Rostov-on-Don is considered. The main city in our region, for us it`s «The capital» of the Rostov region. Rostov is surrounded by three seas: the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea, the Azov Seas. Rostov-on-Don is rich in beautiful parks, monuments, sculptures.

You can see a lot of bright flowers, exotic trees everywhere. And therefore Rostov is very old and its history is in threshing and unusual but now it becomes more beautiful modern and its history is continued.
