The Open Studios and Art Trail hasgradually become a major fixturein the Rossendale events calendarand we’re pleased to see that theArt Trail increasingly draws visitorsfrom outside of the Valley. We’realso continuing to see a wider andwider range of art formsrepresented in the Open Studios,as the painters, print makers andsculptors have been joined byceramicists, calligraphers, glassengravers, photographers andmetal workers.

This year we’re also includingsome of the events that are beingheld in conjunction with the OpenStudios. These activities includeworkshops and other creativeevents leading up to the weekendof the studios opening.

This is a festival of Mad Art, MadTheatre, Mad Culture, Mad Music andMad Film demonstrating that illnessdoes not take away our creativity or

During the run up to the festivities anumber of related courses will be

delivered at the college including “Arts 2Heal” – a six week course focusing onvisual arts culminating in an exhibition

I have decided to work on more print making withthe dry point method. As well as painting largerpaintings on unprimed canvas with acrylic.


An early work of mine was entitled ‘To See Sky,Become Sky’, and this, in a way, encapsulatedmy artistic vision - to substance emotion withform. My own worst critic, I am still striving toachieve this, but I continue to enjoy the journey.


Two of my favourite pass times are life drawingand yoga. Recently I have been marrying the twotogether in my paintings. Thanks for taking thetime to look.


I am a new member to the Studios and verymuch looking forward to my first exhibitionhere. I like illustration, tattoos and henna allthese influence my artwork.

Self-taught artist, originally from Manchester. Ihave a passion for capturing landscapes; I focusmy technique using oil on canvas; I am inspiredby nature. Rossendale creates a beautiful settingin which to capture peace and tranquility for meto create my paintings. With my paintings, inparticular of woodlands, I try and capture an auraof mystery.


I have been living in the valley for around 15years now and joined Valley Artists late lastyear. I painted mostly in oils but recently havebeen experimenting with watercolour, ink andpastels creating small scale works in mixedmedia the main theme being water in its variousforms and moods.
