CandleCare

Care in Lighting CandleWhen relighting a candle, the wick should not be disturbed and particular care used not to break the charred wick. The broken piece, if allowed to fall into the cup, may become attached to the candle wick by capillary attraction. This will then make a very large flame and cause the candle to run over.

Also make sure the wax taper used in lighting the candle is not dragged across the tip of the candle so that it will break the wick or allow some of the taper to fall in the cup of the candle.

Care in Extinguishing FlameNever blow a candle out. This can cause the wick to after-glow, leaving a short wick stub which is very difficult to relight. A bell type snuffer held over the flame for 10 seconds is best. Do not disturb the wick, relighting will be difficult. Keep the snuffer bell clear of wax.

Tilting of Compact Burner We recommend using the #9B Compact Burners (see page 32) on the 1-½” and larger candles, to expose the most candle, and to settle properly in short burning periods. If tilting occurs this can be corrected at the time the candle is extinguished while the wax is soft.

Suggestions for Burning Root Hand-Crafted Beeswax CandlesFollowing these suggestions will insure best burning performance on all beeswax candlesand will eliminate 95% of the common problems associated with burning candles under church conditions.

Root Burners (Followers) Save Wax and Extend Burning time on Root candles Air currents in average church conditions make Candle Burners necessary for all bees-wax candles to prevent candles from overflow-ing. Root Beeswax Candles properly fitted with Root Burners will save wax and insure maximum burning time.

In placing the burner on the candle, press tightly against the tip and then twist around so it will seal snugly against the candle. Remove burners while still warm or reheat in hot water.

Severe Draft ConditionsA badly flickering flame indicates a severe draft condition. Forced draft heaters, ventila-tors and air conditioners all tend to increase air movement. If the source of the draft cannot be reduced or eliminated use Root #13B DRAFT PROOF Burners (see page 32). These burners are especially designed for heavy draft conditions and will reduce dripping.

When extinguishing candles in drafty condi-tions allow more time (approximately 10 seconds) for the extinguishing bell to remain over the candle. This will help prevent after-glow and make relighting easier.

Root’s GuaranteeWe guarantee the beeswax used in this candle to be natural beeswax from the honeycomb of the bee. No synthetic beeswax is ever used. We guarantee the percentage of the beeswax to be correct as marked on the candle and the box. Our records, beeswax purchases and weights have been and are open at all times to inspection by any bishop or his representatives.

Proper BurnersMake sure to select a follower/burner size that correctly fits the candle diame-ter. Only Root Burners give maximum satisfaction on tough Root Candles. Some imitation burners will not function properly. High pressure extrusion makes Root candles the toughest on the market. This process, together with properly fitted Root Burners gives a truly superior candle burning experi-ence. We recommend Root Compact Burner #9B for short 1-½”, 1-¾”, 2”, 2-½” diameters to expose the maxi-mum candle length. These burners sometimes require slight straightening at the time candles are extinguished for best appearance.

Short Burning Period (45 minutes)Any of the Root Burners including 1-½” diameter will function well for short burning periods. The exception is the 1-½” burner in a heavy draft condition.In general the smaller sizes need little time to heat up. The larger sizes requirea longer burning period.

For over 1-½” diameter candles burned for short periods, use Root Compact Burner #9B. Allow an hour or more burning time to permit the burner to settle properly.

Care of BurnersBefore placing burners on the candles all wax must be removed from the burner, preferably by dipping in hot water and wiping clean.

Root Altar Candles are our pride, our flagship product, the first product for church use that was produced by our founder, Amos Ives Root. Using beeswax from his own hives, he rolled sheets of pure beeswax around wicks. Our candles are no longer made by rolling, but Root has not given up the old standards of quality set by our founder, A.I. Root. Our beeswax is all domestically harvested and is filtered for purity, avoiding harsh chemicals or bleach. Root’s pure, natural beeswax altar candles have been a part of sacred traditions in thousands of churches since the early 1900’s.

Our 100% beeswax altar candles are made from domestic beeswax, much of it produced locally, crafted from fresh virgin beeswax cappings - the natural beeswax that is never used in a comb or cell. Liturgy Brand candles are the suggested alternative

to stearic candles. These candles have many of the

properties of beeswax candles, burn 33% longer than

comparable stearic candles and are less expensive than

stearic candles per burning inch. Non-breakable Liturgy

Brand candles are far less brittle and are white in color,

Our Renuelite system is an innovative Devotional Light design, providing the security of a glass globe with the convenience, economy and lighter weight of a plastic light. Pronounced Renew-A-Light, this system consists of glass globes that remain in your candle stand and renewable plastic inserts. When the light has finished burning, simply remove the plastic insert and replace it with a new one. Colored glass globes are used with clear plastic inserts, or you can choose clear globes with colored plastic inserts. Root Candles Terms of Sale and Return PolicyRoot Candles strives to produce and supply a premium quality candle to our Church customers.

We ask that all deliveries are checked on receipt for accuracy and that no damages have occurred in the shipping process. Any shortages, overages or damages should be noted at the time of receipt with the carrier and notification sent to Root Candles Customer Service or your Church Sales Representative by phone or email immediately. We will work promptly to correct any shipping errors or difficulties.

We recognize that not all problems or concerns with a delivery are evident upon receipt. We ask that you notify Root Candles or your Sales Representative within ten days of encountering a potential problem.

Custom orders are defined as any product not listed in the current Root catalog. These orders are subject to a $25 custom fee charge per product.

Return Policy for Root Candle Product It is the policy of Root Candles to allow a return of product that is shipped in error and/or damaged. Please contact us immediately of any quality issue so we can work promptly to correct this situation. A return authorization must be requested and a return label will be provided. The return of any product without prior knowledge or approval by Root Candles is subject to a delay or lack of credit for said product.

Root Candles will accept returns for unused product that is no more than twelve months old as long as the product is in unopened boxes. A return authorization for this product must be requested in advance of any return. The return of any product and proof of return is the responsibility of the customer. Proof of return would be a shipping receipt with tracking information provided to you by the returning carrier. All returned product, not a result of error or damage by Root Candles, is subject to a 25% re-stocking fee. No credit will be given to product that is returned in unusable condition.

Return Policy for Church Goods ordered through The A.I. Root Company Root Candles provides to our church customers a variety of products through our many multiline vendors.
