• First in Room 14’s kumara harvest, Maddy said a karakia (prayer) with Mrs Sami helping her. Then Room 14 and Room 16 sang a Maori waiata together.

• Room 16 came because some were involved in the planting last year.

After the waiata and karakia in Maori,

Tongan and Samoan the youngest (potiki) in the senior block (Rebecca) started

digging for kumara. Then the oldest

(tuakana) started digging as well.

Yes! Rebecca found a kumara! Everyone wanted to see it. It

wasn’t very big. Though it was good that we knew we got at least one kumara.

After Room 14 started helping, Room 16 started helping as

well. Some parents also started helping

during and after Room 16.
