Greece Geography
• Much of Greece contains mountains, rocky terrain and valleys (80 % is mountainous)
• In the ancient world, Greeks made a living from the sea becoming fishers, sailors and traders
• Due to the terrain, mountains and seas divided ancient Greeks from one another which caused Greek communities to grow very independent

Rome Geography• The terrain in Italy is combination of
mountains and flat plains (very similar to Greece)
• The large mountain range, the Alps, exist here but are not as rugged as Greece’s mountains
• Due to this, Romans were not as isolated as the ancient Greeks because their mountains were easier to cross
• In the ancient world, most Romans lived in the country where they were farmers
