Message from Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Rose-Tucker I greet you in the Powerful Name of Jesus the Christ. As we begin this new conference year, I am very excited about the new possibilities to strengthen each local church in this District. First, we welcome our new pastors both to the District and to new appointments within the District: John Pinson, D'ville 1st; Heather Jallad, Assoc., D'ville 1st; Ed Wadsworth, Cedartown 1st; Beth Sanders, 2nd Avenue; Jennie Andone, Trion; Michael Broome, Assoc., Car- rollton 1st; Michael Lowery, Concord; Bob Infinger, Mt. Zion, Mt. Zion; Brent Huckaby, Associate Hope; Tanya Hardeman, District Line; Joe Condra, Wesley Chapel, VR; and Glenn Petero, Yorkville. God is doing a new thing among us, we thank God for each of you and your ministry among us. Second, Bishop Watson has invited us on an incredible journey through the Bible in the new Common English Daily Companion Bible (CEB). Each week every person in this conference has been invited to join our Bishop and cabi- net in a daily devotional following the devotional guide of this incredible ecu- menical translation into everyday spoken English. You may find the entire schedule on line at ngumc.org, so that we will be reading the same scriptures together each day. On July 23rd, we begin the 30th week readings: Theme: Radical Faith . The Monday reading includes these words: Act 5: 29 Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than humans! 30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the deadwhom you killed by hanging him on a tree. 31 God has exalted Jesus to his right side as leader and savior so that he could enable Israel to change its heart and life and to find forgiveness for sins. 32 We are witnesses of such things, as is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” Also, we will have some growing pains and joys as we institute a new structure for our District: That of Sub Districting . For many of you who have been around for several years, this is simply a return to our roots. Each local church is grouped by area with up to 10 other churches. You might want to ask the question why? Our Bishop upon studying our existing structure in prayerful consideration has seen that to more effectively superintend to fulfill the mis- sion of the church that we need to work more closely together in team formats to increase our connectivity among one another. We will develop deeper rela- tionships and share resources to first be in a more powerful and effective min- istry in our communities and to and with each other as well as grow spiritually and Make Disciples of Jesus Christ. In other words, to go deeper in faith, more confident in our witness and really know what it means to live our Christian Faith in the Wesleyan way, we will increase our witness even all over the world. Dr. Terry Tekyl will be our Key Note Speaker and will lead us as we consider what it means to be a spiritual leader and grow in our prayer lives. Teykl, a former United Methodist pastor for 28 years, currently travels full time nation-wide as a seminar speaker and teacher. He is the executive director of Renewal Ministries, and serves with other prayer leaders on the National Prayer Committee, the National Association of Local Church Prayer Leaders and the Denominational Prayer Leaders' Network. Wow! God is truly at work among us! Join this incredible journey and I know that our lives will never be the same as God uses us to bring transformation to the church, our communities and ultimately the world. It requires radical faith!!! Grace and Peace, Jacqui

A reminder to all pastors and churches that the day

designated by the North Georgia Conference as the special day

of giving for the Murphy Harpst Children’s Centers was the third

Sunday in July, which this year is July 15th. For those who have

had their special offering, Thank You So Much. All churches

should have packages containing bulletin inserts and donation

envelopes. These were distributed at pre- conference District

meetings. If anyone does not have this material, please contact the Murphy Harpst Development office at

706 232-5663 or download this and other information from our web site www.murphyharpst.org .

The bulletin inserts and posters do not have a date printed on them for the special day of giving.

This is because so many churches choose to take up an offering for Murphy Harpst on days other than

the third Sunday in July, which is, of course, fine.

Your prayers, donations and participation in the lives of the children are essential to the success we

have bringing life and hope to Georgia’s most severely abused children. The money you send to us is our

funding source for the therapy services that are so critical to the recovery of these young people.

Thank you for all you do.

Dear Friends in the ROCA District, You are invited to an opportunity for inspiration and conversation about church growth as we continue to live into the Vital Congregations initiative of our United Methodist Church. New Inspiration for Church Vitality and Growth: Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 2-5 p.m. in the Wilder Center of the Rome First United Methodist Church. $10 per person. We ask all Pastors, Lay Leaders, and Evangelism/Witness Chairs to join in connecting with one another, developing vision, strengthening faith, and growing churches. To begin the New Inspiration for Church Vitality and Growth, we need one who has “been there, done that” – a Master Builder, not a Miracle Worker. We have such a Master Builder in Rev. Steve Wood, senior pastor of Mt. Pisgah UMC in Alpharetta, GA. His “track record” and Christian leadership example make him a credible and respected leader among both clergy and laity. Just a few of his achievements that demonstrate his vision, energy, dedication, team building ability, and perseverance include: pastoring and growing a new church plant in Douglas County; pastoring and growing a church recognized as the NGA Conference Small Membership Church of the Year in 1989; and currently pastoring a growing church that has one of the highest worship attendance to membership ratios in United Methodism. The lifeblood of the United Methodist Church is passion, commitment, and agility in making a difference in the lives of individuals both inside and outside the church. Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness, inclusion, the growth of faith and the growth of our congregations. We are the body of Christ, who is living and working through us. Our congregations will grow when we discover the new ways Christ will inspire us to share His love and make disciples for the transformation of the world. Please register your attendance at this event by submitting $10 per attendee to Second Avenue UMC (mark your check “September 23 Event”); 801 East Second Avenue, SW; Rome, GA 30161-3309. For more information, contact Giles Chapman at [email protected] or 706.234.7967.
