Barn Quilts Canada’s Architectural Heritage

Wednesday, June 13We explore Ontario’s rural heritage through the unique art of barn quilts. Painted on historic barns, these colourful quilts draw attention to Canada’s disappearing rural landscapes, timber frame barns, and the family farm.

Each barn has its own identity. The unique history, ongoing story and continuing cultural contribution of each is beautifully narrated by hand painted board tiles with traditional quilt borders. Each of the 23 barn quilts is the result of a Canada 150 collaboration between the artist and the barn owners. Led by the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (ACO), Port Hope Branch, we also explore the historic town’s beautiful architectural treasures, including the houses built under the direction of the Royal Ontario Museum’s founder, Charles Currelly.

ROM Members: $110 Non-Members: $120These are mainly bus tours with some walking.

Street Art - From the Present to ?Thursday, July 19

Journey to the past with a visit to historic Montgomery’s Inn where we enjoy a cup of tea before strolling along five blocks of Islington’s street of 26 murals. The murals recapture the sights of the area’s colourful past, including Hurricane Hazel. After resting your tired “doggies” while enjoying a delicious three-course meal, we jump into the present and who knows where. Our next stop takes us to the “now” street art in Graffiti Alley, where a well-known media commentator rants and rants. Join ROMBus for this visual tour de force.

ROM Members: $110 Non-Members: $120We will be walking so be sure to wear comfortable

shoes and sunglasses.
