Romans 1 1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, calledcalled to be an apostle, separatedseparated unto the Gospel of God,

Servant - doulas - slave -- either voluntary or involuntary.Paul loved to see himself as a willing slavewilling slave

to the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jesus had called Paul to be His ambassadorambassador in this world,

And given him miraculous powersmiraculous powers to back up his message.

That's what it means to be an apostleapostle.

Paul was set asideset aside by the Lord to preachpreach the Gospel of Jesus ChristGospel of Jesus Christ.

He preached it in PowerPower, because he was anointedanointed by God's Holy Spirit to preach.

1 Corinthians 2 12-13 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. That's the only wayonly way to understand and teach the Word of God.

We must first be taught be taught by the Holy Spirit.

He is manman -- made (as a man) of the seed of David.

Some say Jesus was a good prophetgood prophet or teacherteacher, and that might be enoughmight be enough,

Except that, when He died, He He didn't stay deaddidn't stay dead.

Jesus is truly the Son of God.

5 By Whom (Jesus Christ) we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations (Gentiles), for His Name: 6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

Paul's calling was primarily to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentilesto the Gentiles,Of which the RomansRomans were included.

Paul was calledcalled to be an apostle to them;They were called to be saintssaints.

7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Notice: Paul didn't write to the churchthe church in Rome, but to all who were beloved of Godbeloved of God,

Called to be saintssaints (consecrated to God).

There wasn't a singlesingle church in Rome.There were many churchesmany churches,

in the homeshomes of Christians.

Paul had not yetnot yet been to Rome, and no other no other apostleapostle had been to Rome at this time.

How did the churcheschurches get established in Rome?

On the Day of PentecostDay of Pentecost the city of full of peoplefull of people from many places, including Romeincluding Rome. (Acts 2:10)

Thousands were savedsaved that day, and took the Good NewsGood News home with them.

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

Faith made the difference!When these people acceptedaccepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, they put allput all their confidence in Him.

He changedHe changed their hearts, minds, and lives.

They went home and toldtold people about it.They told people what they knewwhat they knew.

They had heard the simplesimple Gospel of Jesus Christ.They felt and saw the changechange in themselves.

They were excitedexcited about it, and toldtold everyone about it.

They began meeting in their homestheir homes to worship,Invited the neighborsneighbors,

And churches grewAnd churches grew..

If we are ever going to advanceadvance the Kingdom of God in this world, this is how we will do itwe will do it.

First, we will have to letlet God change us, as He wants to change us.

When we letlet God have His Way with us, the changes will be evident;

Then we telltell people about it:

GodGod has made such a difference --Where once I was sad, I am filled with joy.

Where once I was angry, or worried, or frustrated, I am filled with peace.

Where once I feltfelt unloved and unwanted,I am now God's belovedGod's beloved, chosen of Him.

I am in God's familyGod's family.

Where once I was in bondage to sinin bondage to sin

I am set free and my life is restored whole.

Our timidity may send people to hell.

Colossians 4 (TLB) 3-6 Don’t forget to pray for us too, that God will give us many chances to preach the Good News of Christ for which I am here in jail. Pray that I will be bold enoughbe bold enough to tell it freely and fully and make it plain, as, of course, I should.

Make the most of your chancesyour chances to tell others the Good News. Be wise in all your contacts with them. 6 Let your conversation be graciousgracious as well as sensiblesensible, for then you will have the right answer for everyone.
