    The Rollarc 400 contactor is thebasic device, with no equipmentother than the closingelectromagnet and the auxiliarycontacts.It is intended for contractorsqualified to equip it with thedevices...

    ... required for its operation(insulation, LV power sockets,position indicator, etc.) and for thesafety of its operating personnel.It is kept in the closed position bythe permanently poweredelectromagnet holding coil.

    The Rollarc 400 D contactor withlatching is identical to the 400type contactor, but is equippedwith mechanical latching withshunt release.

    Opening is caused by temporarysupply of the release.An auxiliary contact prevents itssupply when the device is ”open”.

    The devices are shipped in the “O”open position with the operatingmechanism ”uncharged”.H Store the devices in theiroriginal packing.

    The place of storage must be dry,ventilated, sheltered from rain,water splashes and chemicalagents.

    H Protect the devices by coveringthem with an awning or coverproviding efficient protectionagainst dust, gravel, paint, etc.

    Bring up the handle ”released”... ... and pull the carriage towardsyou as far as it will go.The contactor is then in the“plugged out” position.

    By bringing the handle to position”O”, you can lock the device in the“ open” position .The contactor isthen in the “ out of operation”position(plugged out, locked).

    By bringing the handle to position“ I/O” , you can supply the LV circuit.The contactor is then in the “ test”position (unplugged--- locked, lowvoltage supplied).

    With the handle in the releasedposition, slowly insert the carriageinto the fixed rack to allow thelocking system to take up position.Once the “ test ” position hasbeen overshot, vigorously push thedevice to plug it in.

    By bringing the handle to position”I/O”, you can lock the device.The contactor is then in the“ in operation” position (pluggedin--- locked).

    When the handle is in this position,the contactor can be opened orclosed by pressing the remotecontrol button.

    Prior to operation:H open the switchH cut the supply to the auxiliarycircuits and the main circuit.H avoid impacts (pressurisedenclosure).

    general rules Our equipment is designed toguarantee optimum operationprovided that the maintenanceoperations described in thisdocument are complied with.

    maintenance cycleand operations

    The type 400 contactor isdesigned to carry out 300000operations, without maintenance oflive parts (100000 operations fortype 400 D) in normal conditions ofuse as per standard IEC 265.The following are recommended:Changing the LV printed circuitand the auxiliary contact unit every100000 operationsAt least once a year:H overall external cleaningH smear low temperature greaseon the bearings, pivots and rodassembly of the tripping deviceshould the HV fuses blow.

    At least twice a year:or every 20000 operations, smearlow temperature grease on:H the two guides of theelectromagnet magnetic circuitH the moving part of the auxiliarycontactsH the latching device type 400 DH When disassembling, hold thedevice in position until the 4 fixingscrews are blocked.In event of frequent operations orextremely corrosive environment,contact the Schneider Electricgroup services centres.

    The pressurised SF6 gasinside the pole retains all itsdielectric properties after breaking.Electrical durability is limited bycontact wear.This wear depends on device use.We draw your attention to the riskof cleaning processes. consistingof spraying solvents at highpressure.

    The main drawbacks of suchprocesses are.H damage due to jet pressure andimpossibility of re--- lubricatinginaccessible fixing points.H risk of overheating due tosolvent presence on contact areas.H elimination of specialprotections.

    CAUTION

    Never use solvents and alcohol.

    If the insulating parts are dusty, itis recommended that you removethe dust using a dry cloth.

    monitoring arcingcontact wearmonitoringNote:the Rollarc can break 100000times its nominal breakingcapacity which is 400 A.In event of frequent operations orrepeated breaking of short---circuitcurrents, the user can checkcontact wear withoutdisassembling the contactor.

    Disconnect the contactorand remove the earthing shield.

    Unscrew the two nylstop nuts.

    Remove the metal and neoprenewashers and replace them...

    ...with counternuts (∅14 mm) orwith washers (approx. 8 mm thick)which will act as spacers.

    Instead of the nylstop nuts (toprevent weakening them), screw instandard nuts C (∅12 mm).

    Connect an indicator lamp D ora “ bell ” between the input andoutput connections of pole n˚1.

    Simultaneously screw in the two nutsuntil the lamp or bell lights up.

    Measure the coil air gap usinga thickness gauge.Record this measurement.Repeat this procedurefor poles 2 and 3.If, for one or more measurements,the air gap value is less than orequal to 3 mm, the contactor mustbe replaced (on a new device, theair gap is 5.1 mm +0.5).

    To reassemble it, removethe standard nuts...

    ...put back the original washersand nylstop nuts (do not assembleand disassemble the nylstop nutsmore than twice).

    adjustment With the contactor open, insert a12.4 mm thick shim into the air gap.Simultaneously tighten the 2 nylstopnuts until the electromagnet comesinto contact with the shim.Slightly loosen the nuts so that theshim can freely slide in the air gapof the two coils.

    SF6 gas recoveryconformity rules

    The SF6 must be removed beforeany dismantling operation can becarried out in compliance with theprocedures described inIEC---61634 and accordiing to thefollowing instructions.The gas must be treated incompliance with IEC---60480.
