Picturesofsomeonepukingintoatoiletorstatusupdatesabouthowmuchone
hateshisorherjobisnotsomethinganemployeewantstheirbosstosee.Tomake
sureinformationisprivate,peoplearemakingtheirpagesprivateandblockingcertainpeople.
Evenwithrestrictions,employerswerefindingwaystoaccesssocialinformationandsomeevendemandlogininformation.
Toprotectemployeesrightstotheprivateinformationonsocialmedia,Assembly
Bill1344madeitswaythroughCongressandbecamealawonJan.1thanksto
GovernorJerryBrown.
KnownastheSocialMediaPrivacyAct,thislawprohibitsemployersfromdemandingusernamesorpasswordsofemployeesocialmediaaccounts.Originally
createdbyCaliforniaStateAssemblyRepresentativeNoraCampos,thislawalso
statesanemployeecannotbeterminatedfornotreleasingsuchinformation.
Eventhoughemployeesarenowprotectedunderlaw,doesAB1844reallyhavean
impactonemployersaccessingsocialmediaaccounts?
Socialmediacaneitherhelppeoplegetajobordestroytheirchances,saidSacramentoStateCareerCounselorDavidMcVey.Bossesarentgoingtohire

andthisiswhatwedo,Thompsonsaid.Itisbettertobesafethansorry.

watchwhattheypostonlineandurgeotherstodothesame.
