NEWSLETTER Dear Parents, Our community song is always great fun but was made particularly entertaining last Friday when Mrs Forde had lots of staff join her up the front, including Mr Amin who was in attendance from the high school. Some very impressive moves were seen and maybe we should get some parents up there next time! Schools from throughout the Kimberley, including Muludja and Djugerari Remote Community Schools have been in Broome this week visiting schools and participating in professional learning. Miss Lisa Hailstone, Mrs Emma Dearing and Mrs Tracey Turner have all been involved in presenting to and working with the staff of these schools to assist in passing on current information, particularly in maths. In the pre-primary block many of our students are starting to get excited about their move to Year One next year. When asked what they were looking forward to most about 2014 these were some of the responses:- Sacha Whimbrel 1 – I want to play with my friends on the boat playground. Eamon Whimbrel 1 – I’ll get to use the paper to write my sums. Archie Whimbrel 2 – I want to do writing because I like writing. The words are fun when you can sound them out. Tanner Whimbrel 2 – I’ll get new friends if there are new people in my class. Matilda Whimbrel 3 – I’ll get to see my sister. Jhett Whimbrel 3 – I want to get the tidy bag award in Year One. END OF YEAR PRESENTATIONS The end of year presentations will be held in the under cover area at Roebuck Primary School. Junior Presentation (Pre-Primary to Year 3) will be held on Tuesday 10 December at 8:00am and Senior Presentation (Years 4-7) will be at 8:00am on Thursday 12 December. Whimbrel 4 have been learning about the environment and sustainability. We decided to write a letter and send it to the local government to urge them to help look after the environment. Here are a few of our letters below! To whom it may concern, Help stop littering by putting up signs that say ‘Stop Littering’. This will help people put it in the bin and keep Broome clean. From Matilda To whom it may concern, Can you please help protect the animals? You can do this by looking after the animals’ environment. It’s important because we don’t want them to get extinct. From Alana To whom it may concern, Please make tonnes of speed signs around the schools. This will slow the cars down to make it safer for school kids. From Angus

END OF YEAR BOOK AWARDS Each year we seek donations from families and the wider Broome community towards the end of year book awards. Two awards are made per class as well as special subject awards. We encourage donations towards the cost of book awards which average at about $50.00 per book. However any donations towards these awards will be gratefully accepted. Book award donors are acknowledged on the Presentation Assembly programs and with the exception of some special presentations (such as Dux) are not linked to specific awards. Any donations can be passed in to the office and will be credited to the P&C to underwrite the book awards.

The next P&C Meeting is on Tuesday 3 December at 6:00pm in the Staffroom, we hope to see you all there.

Joke Competition – 22 November – last day!

The students have been busy writing their best jokes for the Roebuck Primary School Joke Competition. We have a huge range to choose from but we are really looking for the most hilarious, side-splitting and uproarious funny jokes from each year level. We are having so much fun reading them! Only a few days to go… Remember: keep them clean and no stereotyping! An example below:

Q: Where do Musical frogs perform? A: The Hopra House! Lani Jackson Yr. 3

“Knock Knock.” “Who’s there?” “Cargo.” “Cargo who?” “Car go beep beep!” Jarrod Lavars Westcott Year 2

Q: What do Ghosts eat for dessert? A: Booberry Pie and I scream Mr Malcolm – old enough to know better!

Interschool Chess Champions Without the Trophies!

How do you get to be Chess Champions without winning any trophies? To put your hand up, have a go and give your best… that’s how! Our eight champion students competed admirably against the four local schools last week at St Mary’s in a Chess Challenge day.

Due to our student Council speeches, many of our seasoned competitors were unable to compete and we were lucky to be able to select Chris Bardill, Michaela Hankinson, Casey Bradshaw, Erin Weir, Xavier Smith, Clancy Kenworthy, John Davies and Daniel Coopes.

Each Roebuck Primary School student experienced varying degrees of success on the day with either wins, draws or losses. However we all agreed it was a huge success – a day full of strategy, tactics and meeting new students in a new environment. Casey Bradshaw was very excited to be representing Roebuck Primary School at an interschool Carnival and it was an absolute pleasure to drive home in the car with the students to hear of them talking so excitedly about the day.

” A day we must do again…and soon…please…thanks so much for taking us!” What great kids…of course we want to do it again! Keep those chess games going students…we WILL bring home the trophy one day! Many thanks to Mrs Arnott for looking after the students and

to St Marys for organising the day.
