2. Aerospace Education Management Skills Development

The CAPP 50-2 AE Specialty Track consists of three phases: Technician; Senior; and Master.

All three phases are evaluated by an on-line examination and by demonstrated performance.

Page 16: ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION ON-LINE AE CONFERENCE

3. Aerospace Education Leadership Requirements

The term “leadership” applies to every CAP member and specifically to commanders and AE officers.

Commanders at all levels should demonstrate support for the AE mission and staff, for each authorized AE position with individuals who conduct and support aerospace education in the unit.

Region, wing, unit commanders and AE officers provide leadership and assistance to ensure an effective AE program.

Page 17: ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION ON-LINE AE CONFERENCE

4. Individual Aerospace Continuing Education

Every CAP member has a personal obligation to sustain a level of aerospace knowledge that will ensure a strong professional organization.

Reading professional magazines, journals, and books is a way to achieve this element.

Unit AEOs can facilitate individual continuing aerospace education by conducting aerospace education programs including such things as hands-on activities, guest speakers, and field trips.

Page 18: ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION ON-LINE AE CONFERENCE

5. Aerospace Education Outreach

It the responsibility of all senior members, and not just unit AEOs, to promote aerospace education within CAP and in their communities.

Visiting schools, talking with educators and school administrators, giving school presentations, writing newspaper articles and directing a unit hands-on activity are among those examples that exemplify the fulfillment of this element.

Page 19: ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION ON-LINE AE CONFERENCE

Cadet Aerospace EducationCadets study aerospace books and perform hands-on aerospace activities in a group or by themselves. Cadets must complete formal aerospace education requirements to progress through the various achievements of the cadet program.

Cadet Program Management, CAPR 60-1(CAPR 52-16), Cadet Program Management, defines the cadet program and outlines the aerospace education requirements.

1.6.2.Aerospace Theme. CAP members often hold in common a love of flying. Aviation is the thread that runs through all three CAP missions, and CAP’s affiliation with the Air Force under-scores its identity as an air-minded organization. Whenever possible, every cadet activity should further cadets’ enthusiasm for aerospace, as “aerospace” is broadly understood. With a little imagination, even fitness and character activities can be shown to have an aerospace connection.

Aerospace Connections In Education (ACE)

The free Aerospace Connections in Education (ACE ) program is a fun, interactive aerospace/STEM program for CAP educator members (AEMs) who teach grades K-6. ACE is designed to engage and inspire early-aged youth toward an interest in aviation, space, and other STEM

AEROSPACE CAP the aerospace theme introduces young learners to air and space flight through reading, art, history, and STEM concepts. Students are each given a grade-appropriate educational tool to use and keep to learn about and apply the principles of aerodynamics via easy-to-teach lessons

Connections The ACE program integrates 3 educational components: academics, character ed, and physical fitness. Students can connect content skills with real-life applications and positive adult and teen CAP role models.

Education In 10 years of action, this program has had stellar student-centered results, such as 27% increase in science thinking skills. 96% of ACE teachers agree that ACE fits well with skills/standards/concepts they are required to teach.

AE Careers - Aerospace careers knowledge program

AE Careers promotes and supports aerospace career awareness as an AE tool.

It focuses on providing insights into aerospace careers, the required education needed and employment opportunities for CAP cadets, senior members (SMs), and teacher members.

This Aviation Related Careers program should be viewed as a follow-on program to expand and enhance CAP’s Aerospace Dimensions, Spacecraft Module-6, and Aerospace: the Journey of Flight, Chapter 17, Aerospace Careers and Training.

Equinox and Solstice

In particular (drawing above), the angle between the Earth's axis and the Earth-Sun line changes throughout the year. Twice a year, at the spring and fall equinox (around March 21 and September 22--the exact date may vary a bit) the two directions are perpendicular.

Twice a year, the angle is as big as it can get, at the summer and winter solstices, when it reaches 23.5 degrees. In the summer solstice (around June 21) the north pole is inclined towards the Sun, in the winter solstice (around December 21) it faces away from it.
