ROCKET EXHAUST Well, I’m composing this lovely message from my favorite coffeehouse this morning, because my apartment is pretty unbearable, with noise and horrible vibrations from the road repaving that is happening right outside…think I’ll be here a while web-surfing, too…but at least we’re finally getting stop lights on the busy corner I live on, so that I’ll actually be able to cross Beryl Street without worrying about being killed by someone turning, and it’ll be nice being able to cross 190th Street as well, which has become as busy as the 405 lately!! Well, enough of that; back to club business! Hey, this month’s Membership Meeting will be a busy one—it’s our semi-annual “White Elephant Sale”!!! So bring all those items you’d be likely throwing out anyway—you never know, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right?? And it’s for the good of your club! Also, we’ll be opening the floor for Nominations for next year’s Board Members—so anyone who feels like volunteering just a bit of your time to help in the direction of YOUR club next year, feel free to step up!! Getting the Olds ready for the trip up the Coast to Solvang; and are YOU getting your car registered for our Memorial Car Show & Picnic on Saturday, October 15th?? Ellen Santucci is the contact for this…we always need more cars…and VOLUNTEERS to help out “day of show”!! I think I hear the beach in Redondo calling today also (to get away from the noise…hopefully they’re done by around supper time, or I may be thinking about a motel room…lol!!) Looking forward to seeing your shiny Olds’ at some of our upcoming events!! Joe Tannerbauer OCSC President

July 20, 2016 Board Meeting Scribed by So. Cal. Chapter Secretary Domenic Santucci Old business and activity. President Joe Tannerbauer started our board meeting with the pledge of allegiance to our national flag. No guest or active members that are welcome to sit in were in attendance. Joe called for Ellen Santucci to give a summary of the treasury report. 2 people signed up so far this month for our annual Memorial Exclusive Oldsmobile Car Show. Ellen reminded us to covey that the sooner your application is received it will help to design the day’s event such as food, drinks, class judging, car placement and ballot counting with award presentations to follow. Please venture out to get event item donations from auto to service related items for show day Saturday October fifteen (15). Applications will appear in our Newsletter posted by Editor Karon Pierce-Warner. Club received zone share of profits $189.88 which will be deposited soon. We received a $200-dollar donation from the Roe’s which is in itself is a generous contribution to the September Membership Meetings White Elephant sale and October Memorial Show considering they will not be traveling and not able to attend. The chapter bank account is adequate to carry out club business. Our profit to loss ration this first half of 2016 is better than last year. Push our membership higher getting applications out to assist on your own to improve on funding. Joe discussed this month and next month events on your activity calendar posted in your newsletter. An active membership drive at the Long Beach Swap Meet space “J2” was held and maintained by Milton Yee and Jim Charlesworth. On July 16 there was 2 Oldsmobile’s present at the Glendale Cruise Night. The August shows are posted in your newsletter check your flyer postings. We are still seeking a site for our Holiday Banquet and thank those contributing with locations, keep it up. New Business and Events.Reminder we need contribution material for the September Membership Meeting one or many items accepted to enhance club sales. As in prior auctions I presume Grant Warner will present the auction with his valuable aid Butch Williams. SEPTEMBER opens our annual officer nominations for 2017. I noted that one important factor is that next year 2017, we do not have to plan out a Zone Show. You not only can nominate yourself for a board position but with their approval nominate another for a specific office. In following meetings nominations will be part of the agenda for candidates. Look forward to flyer and calendar postings and suggestions for events to attend are welcome. A request for other new business from Joe prior to meeting close was answered by yours truly. I requested that we rewrite part 7 of bylaws pertaining to the qualifications to be an associate member. The part that states you need to live in the same household relating to national club requirements does not apply. Ellen would like the applications for membership to be clear on the cost as not an administrative fee but a membership cost for the associate. The item was put on abeyance until more board input is obtained. Joe closed the meeting.

Annual Dues Do for 2017

Mark your calendars for the Nationals In New Mexico

July 2017 Nationals July 18-23 2017.

August 3. So. Cal Oldsmobile Membership meeting scribed by secretary Domenic D. Santucci Our meeting called to order by President Joe Tannerbauer, with a pledge of allegiance to our nation and our flag. Summer brings on less attendance with 19 enjoying their meals while listening to Joe discuss his agenda on old and new business. Joe called to approve last month’s membership meeting notes and the newsletter. The Board notes will be in the next newsletter from the July Meeting. Keith Berg an area representative made the motion to approve the last meetings minutes and it was seconded by Bernie Buller and passed after discussion and a verbal vote by 19 in attendance. Joe called Ellen Santucci club treasurer to give status on the club’s finances. Ellen passed out a written July Financial Report on financial activity to those present and took questions from the membership on the zone show, new memberships and donations. We have received a letter from ACCC thanking us for our donation. One question was raised by Cal Matranga on the $30.00 posted to the chapter hosting the national meet. It was a support for the event with a posted club business card in the club’s day of show agenda. Another show application received with Ellen encouraging all to get their registrations in early. Cal asked if the membership is prorated and was told no it is $15.00 when you join. Joe stated the board has options at the end of the year to take dues in early, to encourage new membership prior to December 1, to extend that membership to December 2017. Ellen noted club treasury is sufficient to meet club business. The Long Beach Swap meet last month discussion noted that it drew a high number of participation from attendee’s on older cars and many handouts were distributed. Joe will work August 7 swap with help from other members volunteering to spot him relief. On events the 7/16 Cruise in Glendale had 300 plus cars with 2 Oldsmobiles. A recommendation made to post the event as a club item next year. Also the upcoming 8/20 Wrightwood Show and the 8/27 Wheels ‘n’ Windmills in Solvang. (Caravan leaving Corky’s in Van Nuys on Van Nuys Blvd. at 101 Freeway by 10am.) Bernie gave feedback on the national meet he said the venue was beautiful with a large A’ Body car showing. He hopes to see more of a variety show up at the 2017 New Mexico show. Rooms will open for blocking in three weeks from today on the 2017 Nationals. Jumping to new business, after a short break, Joe discussed the upcoming September 7, open nominations, for board members. The office of President needs to be filled he will not be running again due to travel plans next year. At the same Membership Meeting we have our second semi-annual white elephant sale so bring your donated car items etc. and Grant Warner our VP and Butch Williams our area representative will promote the auction. This auction helps fund our SATURDAY, October 15, Memorial Car Show get your registration in now. Our next event will be at the Gene Autry Museum on September 10, flyer in this month’s newsletter. Lunch location will be at a local Sizzler Restaurant. Check out our September 17, flyer event for the Coast Highway Cruise. Ellen again stressed the need for early registration on our clubs annual Memorial Car Show. We need volunteers for event day and folks to bring new donated items for our show auction. To speed up the show tickets will be pulled throughout the event to speed up the award presentations. The ballot box will be at the registration table day of show. We are still polling for a holiday banquet site and a November club event. Joe polled for car ads and parts wanted or sales and proceeded to the 50/50 drawing. Note: Joe sold tickets due to last month’s winner Associate Sue Carter was not in attendance. The drawing winner to sell tickets and also promote the September White Elephant Auction, was Grant Warner. “A reminder, open elections next month.” Joe closed the meeting.

No guest attended the meeting which kicked off at 7:35 p.m. Joe called on Ellen D. Santucci Club Secretary for an update on financial activities. Note that final monthly statement did not include the expense for our newsletter and dues due OCA to be processed. Chapter has adequate funds to conduct business. Following a short break, the board voted to allow an Oldsmobile Engine powered speed boat to attend our show and as of this agenda printing he has been notified. Our clubs annual Holiday Banquet site has been set once posted in our newsletter Ellen will take reservations once the flyer is posted for our December 10, Saturday Dinner and meeting. A reminder, do not go to Mimi’s in December 7, 2016 as the meeting will be the Holiday Banquet. As in past banquets we are collecting new $10.00 toys for kids up to 17 years old, if batteries are required please include them. Look for flyers in our newsletter for events and check your activity calendar of events to keep posted. We are reaching out to next year to post club events and recruitment of new members with other venues for a club booth. If you have any suggestions let us know. A final reminder we are accepting prize donations for our Memorial Car Show so get out and solicit where you can.

This is the host Hotel for the 2017 Nationals. We did some research on the Hotel after reading a few negative reviews. The hotel is undergoing a remold which is supposed to be finished before our event. We made our reservations and are looking forward to the Caravan and sightseeing along the way.

If you have suggestions as to things we should see or places, we should stop please let your board know. I am sure we will be joining up with our Arizona Club along the way. Many of you participated in the 100th anniversary trip to Michigan. This trip will not be as far but it promises to be an adventure nonetheless.
