See why FORMED is called the Catholic “Netflix!”
Bishop Walker Nickless issued the mandate to suspend all Sunday and public Masses
effective immediately. This suspension will extend for eight weeks and then will be
reevaluated as the coronavirus situation develops. Parishes within the diocese will
resume normal activities when it is safe to do so. “This has been the most difficult
decision I have made during my time as bishop,” Bishop Nickless explained after
making the decision to cancel all Masses, which will include Holy Week—the high point
of the Catholic Church’s liturgical year. “The health and well-being of all people in the
diocese, as well as all Catholics, is of the utmost importance at this time. I ask all the
faithful for their understanding and to join me in prayer for the end to this public health
crisis.” During this period, Catholics in the Diocese of Sioux City are dispensed from
the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, according to the bishop’s mandate. Liturgical and
parish guidelines for this eight-week period will include:
• Celebration of public Masses - All public celebrations of the Mass will be
suspended.
• Baptisms – Baptisms will only be celebrated with immediate family and
godparents. There will be no large group baptisms.
• Weddings – Only immediate family members and witnesses are to attend weddings.
Clergy are not to attend related social functions. Parishes are not to host receptions.
• Funerals – Funerals may be celebrated only with immediate family members.
Parishes may not host funeral dinners. The funeral vigil, wake, or other events
should all be held the same day as the funeral.
• Holy Week – Holy Week liturgies are suspended.
• Confessions - The sacrament of reconciliation (confession) will be conducted by
appointment only.
• Sacrament of Confirmation - All spring celebrations of the sacrament of
Confirmation are suspended.
• First Communion - The celebrations of First Communion are suspended.
• Eucharistic Adoration - The formal exposition of the Eucharist or adoration will be
suspended. No adoration for eight weeks.

Religious Ed Announcements
At this time, all classes and events have been cancelled for the next eight weeks. This includes First Communion. As soon as we hear any information on if/when things will be rescheduled, we will let you know! Until then, I will plan on sharing out a religious education activity that both elementary and secondary students can do at home. I will share these out on Wednesday mornings. I will also share out a Gospel-related activity you can do with your kiddos. This will be shared out each Sunday. I will post these activities to the Facebook page, so make sure you check the Facebook page for the activities you can do at home! Lake City elementary parents: if you'd like to pick up your child's workbook/Bible, feel free to e-mail [email protected] to set up a time. I'd be more than happy to get you their materials so you can do the activities at home! Manson families: I will send out a "virtual" lesson on our last sacraments of study the first week of April. I will also be creating an online feedback form to fill out. This is what we would have done on that first May gathering. A final note for all parents: Remember that in these difficult and uncertain times, YOU are the best model of faith for your child. Even if you don't make time to do the religious education activities at home, you can still model and teach what it looks like to pray, talk to Jesus, and practice our faith. Don't wait until they are not around to quietly say your prayers...invite them to pray with you! You are the best model of what having faith is for them! Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions!

An Act of Spiritual Communion to Make While Unable to Attend Mass My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

O Mary, you always shine on our path
as a sign of salvation and of hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.
You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need,
and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee,
we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father
and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our
sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross,
to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not
disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every
danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
