Planning ServicesSince 1992 most horticultural structures have required planning permission. We recommend that advice on planning permission is sought from your local planning authority, before ordering.
If help with this is required we can assist with CAD planning permission drawings.
These drawings show existing site plan and proposed site plan and include the structure
elevations. Prior to an order these services will be subject to a standard charge which
will be credited when an official order is received.

An increasing number of classic polytunnels are falling victim to the UK’s worsening, harsh weather.Polytunnels are not subject to building regulations, nor do they have to be compliant to any British or European standards.We believe that Farmers and Growers need a product that can be proven to stand up under wind and snow loads as directed by the British Standards Institute and The European Committee for Standardisation.
Our Research and Development Department undertook the comprehensive task of designing such a product.
We found that construction of the classic multi span polytunnels can be very time consuming, complex and costly. Our aim was to reduce the amount of construction time needed, cut down on complicated assemblies and standardise on fittings and fasteners.

We are the only polytunnel manufacturer in the UK that offers a multi span polytunnel designed and manufactured to British and European Standards.Current polytunnel design has evolved over time since its inception in the early 70s, mainly based on experience and cost, without any specific loadings or calculations being applied.Each manufacturer claims his structure is stronger, and better by design and price, but from a customer point of view there has been no way of measuring or checking the quality of the product they have been receiving.
We used computer based stress analysis packages tooptimise every member within the new structure.We developed new fittings to aid easier manufacturing and construction.Pre-galvanised steel is used throughout the mainframework, reducing the need for hot dip galvanising.

We are an extremely safety conscious company, therefore when designing a new product, Health & Safety is also part of the critical design path. ROBUS structures have been designed to negate the health and safety issues associated with working at heights. The main framework can be built at ground level and lifted into position*. When covering or maintaining the structure we have designed a fall arrest protection system which fits directly to the gutter.We constantly strive to improve our own standards to ensure they are in line with, and exceed, HSE guidelines.
The ROBUS structure has been designed in line with the codes of practice as listed on the opposite page.

What are the benefits of using a British Standard compliant Structure?Possible lower Insurance premiums
Legislation does not currently exist to compelmanufacturers to comply with relevant British/ENStandards. However due to the increase in the number of growers suffering snow damage over the last couple of years, and the claims that have been brought to the insurance companies, we foresee an hardening of the stance taken by insurance companies, to the point where they may ultimately refuse to in-sure polytunnels unless they are BS/EN compliant.
Safer Structures for you & your staff
We can give assurances that the structures will resist the dead and live loads imposed upon them, as specified in the relevant standards. The dead loads being the self weight of the structure and supplied equipment. The live loads being wind, snow and crop loading. These loadings will be site specific.

The characteristics of snow can vary depending on the length of time the snow has come to rest on your structure.
Snow which has just fallen (Fresh Snow) will be lighter than snow which has melted slightly, of the same depth.
Choose your structure based on the characteristics of snow for your location. i.e If snow is likely to remain days after falling, a loading from the ‘Old Snow’ graph should be taken.

All structures from the ROBUS range are designed and manufacturered to BS/EN standards.
For a ROBUS multi span polytunnel to be classed as a BS/EN structure, the correct model must be selected for that particular site and must be constructed, to standard, by our team of constructors.
This means the snow and wind loads for your site must be within the perimeters of the graphs shown, either for the 6.5 metre or 8 metre wide structures.It is not compulsory for you to select the structure which covers your site specification. However, if you select a structure which is outside these perimeters, your structure will not conform to BS/EN standards and we are unable to guarantee it. We will advise a structure which will be best suited to your site and to conform to BS/EN standards.

Structural aluminium box-section
extrusion - the most rigid rail ever!
Alibox incorporates a fixing rail with a
P.V.C. infill which fit into the aluminium
profile. This system allows you to fit your
sheets under tension without scoring
or cutting the cover. It is attached to the
structure at ground level to provide an
alternative fixing method to burying the
cover into the ground.
Same specification as the Alibox base rail
but attached to the side of the structure
rather than at ground level. This double
rail enables the main cover and shade
netting to be fitted into separate grooves
on one rail. The shade netting is fixed
between the side rail and base rail to
provide lower level side ventilation.

Roll-up curtains provide a neat and
reliable side ventilation system.
A 50mm diameter aluminium drive tube
is operated by a manual gearbox, simply
turn the handle to raise or lower the
polythene curtain. To eliminate ground
level draughts we have a PVC skirt
stitched to the side ventilation netting,
a feature only available from Northern
Polytunnels. Roll up curtains over 1.5m
use a reinforced polythene for the
curtain material.
Single Roll-up curtain is used with ROBUS
Straight Sided Structures.
Double tube roll-up curtains are used
on structures with higher sides. Double
roll-up vents with aluminium central
drive tube and bottom edge weight tubes
are also used as it provides additional
stability.
Double Roll-up curtain is used with
ROBUS 2.3 and ROBUS 2.75 structures.
We can supply a motorised version of our
roll-up curtain, for aluminium, which can
be connected to a control box.

Top ventilation louvres fit in the D panel
above the doors to create an effective
solution for ventilation. Louvres feature
our unique 3 positional hinge which locks
the louvre in place.
These louvres feature a rack and pinion
system for opening, controlled by a
gearbox with winding handle.
The rack and pinion louvres are
not limited to 3 positions but are
fully adjustable.
N.B Roll-up curtains systems can be fitted to the sides only when used on a ROBUS Straight Sided structures. The ROBUS 2.3 and ROBUS 2.75 can accept roll-up curtains to both sides and gable ends.

Lumisol AF- U.V TransparentUnlike normal greenhouse films that prevent short wavelength UV light (UVB) from reaching plants, our UV transparent films allow UVB to enter the greenhouse thus enhancing the fragrance, taste and colour of the crops. In addition, UV transparent films promote plant anti-oxidants, which are good for health, and encourage stronger plants. This greatly
benefits plant raisers and young plant growers as stronger plants can be easier to plant out thus saving time and raising productivity.

Luminol AFThermic films that are further enhanced by long-lasting condensation control properties. When properly installed, water will condense uniformly on the film rather than as droplets. This, in turn, improves light transmission and reduces the risk of water falling on to the

A thermic film developed to help keep the growing environment warmer by reducing the heat lost through long wavelength infra-red radiation. Higher overnight temperatures encourage plant growth, can reduce plant losses and allow savings to be made on
heating.

Shade netting manufactured from a knitted polyethylene monofilament to give a 40% or 50% shade value. Dark green netting provides
protection against sun and wind. Net covers are sewn to size to fit any size polytunnel.
Aluminium Doors
A variety of door arrangements are available for our structures. Doors are manufactured using a structural aluminium box-section extrusion.
We have chosen to only supply aluminium doors. We think timber doors have a lower
life-span and are a lower quality product in comparison. At NP Structures, we will not
compromise quality and functionality over price.

Welded Aluminium Doors
The sliding doors can be fitted as a single
door or a double door. These can be fitted
to the end gable and on the side of the
ROBUS 2.3 and the ROBUS 2.75.
Our sliding doors have a heavy duty
aluminium door track incorporating a
rain pelmet. This is supplied in a full,
single length for easy and fast fitting.
Double sliding door sets have a central
drop bolt to secure the doors in the
closed position. Inclusive of all sliding
door gear, aluminium tracking, fittings
and bolts.
As with the sliding door kits, welded
doors can be fitted as a single or double
door. A welded door is ideal when fitting
to a tunnel in a high risk area or when a
larger door is required.
With little difference between the prices of the various polythenes, careful consideration
should be given to the choice of cover. We use bpi.visqueen films for all of our structures.
We feel bpi.visqueen are the best manufacturer of polytunnel films. They offer
quality, consistency and reliability. They invest heavily in film technology and product
development. We will not compromise quality over price. bpi.visqueen are at the forefront
of cutting edge scientific research and film production.

Technical Specifications
Aluminium profiles are extruded from grade 6063T06. All our profiles are hot extruded.
All bracings are manufactured from 50.8mm diameter ERW tube. Gable leg levelling braces are upgraded to 60.3mm diameter for Models: ROBUS 623 and ROBUS 627.
Columns are manufactured from either 60mm square ERW tube for ROBUS 2.3m and 60 square heavy gauge galvanised steel for ROBUS 2.75 . Select columns are upgraded to 80mm square heavy gauge galvanised steel for models; ROBUS 623 and ROBUS 627.
Crop bars are manufactured from 50mm diameter ERW tube and crop bar hangers from 38mm ERW tube.
All fasteners are bright zinc plated. All nails are hot dip galvanised.
All fittings are either zinc plated to J5 500 for outdoor use, or hot dip galvanised.
Heavy galvanised profile, designed to fit into the main framework.Concreting bars used to provide stability when setting into wet concrete, as well as providing structural strength.
ERW tube used - Z35 and heavy gauge steel hot dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461:2009
Gutters are designed to BS EN 12056-3 and manufactured from extruded aluminium with NP Structures unique sheet trapping profile. The number of outlets can be calculated for your site location.
All hoops are manufactured from 60.3mm diameter ERW tube. The hoops are rolled on a state of the art, specialist NC rolling machine to predefined profiles ensuring a high tolerance is achIeved.
All ridge tubes are manufactured from 50.8mm diameter ERW tube.
All timber supplied by NP Structures is pressure treated tanalised timber (Note: once cut, the raw edge will need treating)

ROBUS Structures are designed to be built on a site with a fall no steeper than 1:100 (1m drop over 100m) and level across the spans.
The construction site may require some degree of preparation before it is suitable for
building on. A sideways slope will generally cause problems, as will undulations in the
site. It is in the clients interest to start with a levelled site produced by a professional.
For our construction team, we have brought together talented and experienced experts.
