BiW Scania

Delmia is used for offline programming of the robots. The product data is managed by Enovia Process Engineer is used to manage the process planning RCS module is used to verify that the robot moves as in the real controller Up-/downloading of robot programs is used to be able to change programs without stopping the production

The new BiW plant in Oskarshamn is developed in cooperation with EBZ Challenges has been/is to automatically: • Keep track of the process points for each cab variant • Filter the different parts to match the variants of the cab • Set the correct attributes on each process point (Spot, Stud, Glue etc) • Import different process types from excelsheets and being able to handle them • Export of project to/from EBZ

Methods and software for automatically generating collision free assembly paths. Today the programming of motions and paths for robots and equipment is done manually Initial test show great potential. Cycle time savings up to 20%.

Challenges during implementation

n  CAD data (not available, 2D, Catia V4, simplified)

n  Old robots who use robtalk – no RCS

n  Accessibility of paint lines for setup, calibration

n  Production Priority vs implementation (time for practice, up-/download, calibration)

n  Mind set (cooperation design, open to changes, interested in learning)

Conclusion

14

n  The development of the virtual model of the new BiW plant continues and we have lots of work left to do.

n  Scania has found a tool combination Delmia/FastSURF that is well suited for the robotic painting area.

n  Some work left with harmonizing working method and introduce tools and methods for robotics users within the company.

n  Selecting, implementing and standardizing a simulation and visualization tool and method is challenging and time consuming but finally a successful and valuable project.
