James and the Giant Peach 1961

Think of someone who is horrible and describe them using an animal, object or vegetable.

A poor boy named Charlie Bucket always helps his family because his grandma is sick and his parents must work. One day his grandpa gives him a coin to buy some chocolate because he is so proud of Charlie. In this chocolate there is a gold ticket, which means he has won a visit to the local and mysterious chocolate factory.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 1964

When Charlie arrives at the factory with the other winners, they soon learn it is a magical and wonderful place.

The owner, Willy Wonker, shows them around but warns them not to touch or eat anything. All of the children disobey this but Charlie is the only one who finishes the tour of the factory.

Match the sweets to the descriptions:

Matilda 1988

•One of Roald Dahl's best-known stories.

•It won the ‘Children’s Book of the Year’ award soon after it was published.

•The story of a little girl with a big brain and strange magical powers. Her parents are unkind and she is adopted by her kind teacher Miss Honey. She also seeks revenge on her horrible Headmistress Miss Trunchbull.

Quotes:

A little girl named Sophie, (named after Roal Dhal’s granddaughter)  sees a giant blowing something into the bedroom windows down the street. The giant notices her, reaches through the window, and carries her to his home in Giant Country…

The BFG 1989

He tells her that he is the world's only friendly giant, (BFG), who can hear dreams and catches them to later blow them in to the bedrooms of children using his trumpet.

When he catches a nightmare, he destroys it, or blows in on the other giants who are evil and eat “human beans” - especially children!

Because the BFG refuses to eat children he must eat a foul-tasting vegetable known as a snozzcumber.

He also must drink an unusual drink called frobscottle, which cause the drinker to break wind (fart) instead of burp; Roald Dhal calls this Whizzpopping.
