EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This document serves as a detailed record of all roadshow activities in the
different countries.
According to the contract, roadshows had to be organised in 8 countries,
reaching at least 100 participants. In practice, we far exceeded the
contractual obligations.
All roadshows were organized by the project partners in France, Germany,
Poland, Romania, the UK, Spain, Italy and Greece, and coordinated by FVE. A
roadshow entailed between one and three main events, and any other follow-
up events in different regions of the country.
The total amount of roadshows organized and participants reached far
exceeded the contractual obligations. In all countries, the required number of
100 participants were reached (and in many much more), representing the
varying industry stakeholders: transporters, drivers, organisers, official
veterinarians, farmers, driver training centers, traders, slaughterhouse
representatives and workers.
The identification of suitable locations and speakers was decided based on
consortium partners and Stakeholder Platform recommendations. All meetings
were conducted in the native language of the target country. In many
countries, the ministry supported or co-organised the events. Generally,
the meetings included an introduction to the project, a presentation of the
deliverables, the distribution of factsheets and advertisement of the online
availabilities of the deliverables, and an evaluation of the events by the
participants.
In many countries, the coordinators went to a great extend to make these
workshops a success. They printed materials themselves, developed
posters, made document holders, invited transport companies to bring trucks
to show to the participants, etc. Often meeting rooms were given for free and
speakers came for free. Some even made T-shirts to promote the project.
3
In addition to the countries required in the contract, also meetings took
place in Belgium, Estonia and Serbia. The deliverables were also promoted
to many European and International audiences and umbrella
stakeholder groups, see EU activities
Through local and national media partnerships, as well as the Project’s own
social media accounts, the roadshows and the Project itself achieved an even
greater reach.
Even after countries had the official numbers required, they continued and still
continue to hold events to promote further the guides. At the moment of
writing this final report, future roadshows are still being planned such as in
Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium, which no longer fall under this contract
but will continue to promote the deliverables and welfare of animals during
transport.

ANNEX 1: General Considerations
• It was not so easy to find suitable events for all species in many of the
different countries. While the cattle and pig sectors generally are very
well organized, the horse sector, mainly comprising private owners, is
not. This makes it difficult to find suitable events e.g. for horses.
• We did not have experts for all species in all countries. This was a
difficulty when e.g. our cattle expert was from the UK and a Greek
speaking cattle expert needed to be found. We solved this by making
use of our national members of the stakeholder group, who had followed
the project from the start and were usually motivated to help out with
the roadshows. We also solved this by making template presentations
per species; which could be re-utilized in the different countries.
• Finances: seen that the budget per country was limited, a lot of
creativity and flexibility was needed. In many cases, cooperation was
done with the ministry, research institutes or farm associations. This
made that meeting rooms were given for free in many occasions.
• Feedback: We learned that they participants may be hesitant to give
personal details. We also learned we get more feedback questionnaires
back when traded for USB sticks or the Factsheets at the end of the
session
• Little money was available for developing
gadgets but we produced 4 GB USB sticks
with the animal transport guide logo on
which we put all guides, all factsheets, the
Fitness guides and the EC briefing note on
transporting animals to Turkey.
• Idea for the future – laminated flipcards on
a keyring that can be kept by drivers in
their vehicles, to be used as a checklist
before / after journeys.
68
ANNEX 2: Original requirements for the Roadshows
- Roadshows can be one event or multiple events per country
- Per country, at least 100 participants (Transporters, Drivers, Farmers,
Official Vets, etc)
- Content: present GGP’s, training session per species and evaluation done
- Roadshows have to be done in the local language
- Max budget: 5.000 € per country (including meeting rooms, catering,
materials, etc)
- Needs to make sure we reach all species groups in a country (except if
almost no species existing in the country e.g. sheep in Poland) and all
groups of participants
- Can make use of big fairs, specific technical days, training session
transporters or specific meetings transporters/vets.
- Involve as much as possible ministry and national institutes providing
driver training.
69
ANNEX 3: Example of a Certificate of Attendance given after
attending a roadshow
