ROAD SAFETY INSPECTION MANUAL FOR SCHOOL ZONES

REASONS

� The protection of vulnerable road users.

� High rates of injuries and fatalities.

� Our interest in achieving “ Goal Zero Accident“.

� Finding balance in the design of cities between the

pedestrians and motorized traffic.

� Capturing (and offering) in a user-friendly manual our inspection

experiences in school environments.

OUR STATEGY

MANUAL GOALS

� Identify potential road safety problems in the school

sorroundings.

� Recommend measures aimed at removing or

mitigating the problems identified.

� Describe examples of good practices put in place by

schools, local councils, local police agencies.

� Raise road safety awareness.

� Promote the use of an effective tool for improving

road safety, such as inspections and audits.

PRINCIPAL CONCLUSIONS

Principle 2. ”The child shall enjoy special protection, and

shall be given opportunities and facilities, by law and by

other means, to enable him to develop physically, mentally,

morally, spiritually and socially in a healthy and normal

manner and in conditions of freedom and dignity. In the

enactment of laws for this purpose, the best interests of the

child shall be the paramount consideration”.
