Rail Surveying

RMP offer our clients the two major principles in all track measurement; Site control and track survey and Engineering Surveying.

Site Control and Track Survey (Start to Finish)

• Establishing site control

An accurate survey control network must be installed and positioned prior to any works being carried out on the rail infrastructure.

RMP have years of in-house experience of establishing long, linear control networks on site. Utilising the most up-to-date survey equipment and processing software available on the market RMP combine various survey methods and principles to deliver the most rigorous network possible.

• Topographical Survey of Proposed Route/Works

RMP Survey specialise in quality data acquisition in all disciplines including rail. We adhere to all procedures and safe working practices governed by the Network Rail Standards. RMP are always willing to adopt survey codelists and format files from our clients to ensure a seamless dataflow between different design software’s.

• As Built Survey

After any works have been carried out on the infrastructure the corresponding changes need to be recorded. RMP will deploy a survey team that were familiar to the project pre-works. This ensures that the same control network is used and the same high level of care is taken to record the changes on site.

Rail Engineering Surveys

• Setting out proposed track alignments on the ground

At RMP we offer our clients an in-house team of Civil Engineering Surveyors who have years of combined experience in setting out to extremely high tolerances as well as providing solutions for ongoing monitoring programs.

• Checking newly installed Pway against design

Using the latest Track Measuring Devices (TMD’s), RMP offer our clients the most precise real-time data analysis available. The TMD can transfer design or measured data either to or from any tamping machine in the field minimising down time.

RMP Site Surveyor Packages

RMP Surveyors are trained in advanced data acquisition and effective project management techniques. By fully understanding each project scope, schedule and budget, our professionals are able to make critical decisions in the field, minimizing delays and eliminating unnecessary costs. This combination of technical expertise and project management know-how creates a team that can effectively and independently manage a project from start to finish.

RMP Client representative Surveyor Packages

RMP offer a unique service in which one of our Senior Surveyors acts as a representative for our clients. We will carry out surveys to check work before it is signed off as complete, therefore saving on potential issues in the future.

We can also offer our services to back up client representatives on site. If the job is highways, or covers vast distances, the GPS capabilities can be used to help the client identify the exact position of levels or lines, to ensure the constructed works match the design.

Site Position and level set up

We offer full site control set up packages from small building sites, to big road jobs. We use anchor stations which can last the test of time, or pins with a concrete bed for most green field sites. If the sites are in urban areas, Hilti nails or nail disk stations can be used. We fully traverse all station set ups to eliminate errors and depending on the clients brief we can list the stations set and produce full illustrative drawings with station control tables.

Cut and Fill Modelling and 3D visualisation

RMP are experts in Cut and Fill Modelling technologies. With our expertise we offer full modelling of any site, giving models to issue to work equipment such as dozers and to client’s engineering staff.

We are also able to fully quantify estimations of material needed and material to be removed from site, allowing for clients to tender for works.

If we have the full specification of the project we can work out exact quantities of material needed for cut and fill to existing ground binder in roads and even how much theoretical wearing course is required for the project.

We also model stock heaps and give full quantities. We design heaps for projects so that the client has some understanding of their storage capabilities on site in the planning stages. This helps the client decide if they need to ‘muck-away’ during the project, or if they can store on site and landscape.

BIM (Building Information Modelling)

With the increasing need for efficiency and the ever advancing pace of technology, BIM is becoming more established within the property and construction markets to capitalise on the benefits it presents.

A design process or methodology to manage building data throughout the building life cycle, the purposes of BIM are to increase productivity/efficiency; improve sustainability; facilitate collaboration; mitigate risk; and improve communications/coordination.

RMP Survey plays a key role in the Building Information Modelling (BIM) process, particularly within the built environment. Our methodical approach combined with our in-house knowledge and expertise of 3D laser scanning has allowed us to develop a process which delivers fast and accurate survey information in a BIM-ready model.

Structural Monitoring

RMP offers structural monitoring services; both long term and short term solutions

Long Term and Short Term Fixed System

RMP set up an unmanned monitoring solution to undertake routine monitoring and save the results directly to a cloud server which then emails or texts if any movement is measured. We find this system is more commonly required by the rail industry.

Long Term and Short Term Manual Monitoring System

RMP also undertakes manual monitoring of structures where a routine is agreed with clients and the Surveyor is present on site to carry out the work. This is a more efficient option for smaller projects.

Measured Building Surveying

RMP Land Surveying undertake three types of building surveys: Measured building, Elevation Surveys and Laser Scanning.

Laser Scanning

RMP Land Surveying use Faro Laser scanners with a range of up to 300m and a scan time of up to nine minutes we can survey inside and outside of buildings. We issue a point cloud that can be utilised in Auto CAD.

Measured Building

• RMP building surveys pick up all detail inside and outside of buildings.

• All surveys denote the material of the buildings and any fixtures and fitting in the buildings.

Elevation Surveys

• All elevation surveys are undertaken to produce a 2D drawing.• Site plans are produced to help with ease of understanding.• All detail is recorded and drafted.• All materials are noted and detailed in drawings.• Level data is illustrated in drawings.

Service Location Surveying and Site Survey Investigation

RMP Land Surveying service location utilizes three types of service location equipment;

• Electromagnetic GPR Equipment issuing a 3D drawing that can be placed in Auto CAD.

• GPR Radar Scanning which can trace anomalies underground and can be marked on the ground and surveyed by normal survey methods.

• CAT and Genny is the industry standard in cable location and can detect cables and pipes which can be marked on site and surveyed using traditional survey methods.

RMP have two types of site investigation to offer; pre and post construction condition surveys or site reconnaissance service.

• Pre and post condition surveys are undertaken when a client need to keep a log of conditions of infrastructure used by construction traffic. We also undertake condition surveys of platforms and walkways.

• Site reconnaissance surveys are carried out when the client is unable to get to site. Photos and reports are completed to the client’s requirements.
