training and theory in computer-generated art in an integrated program that includes history, painting, printing, lighting, 2D and 3D imaging, animation, interaction design, curating and basic computing, maths and physics. This program was created in response to industry demand for graduates with strong skills in games aesthetics and a clear understanding of the place of games art in the broader historical continuum of image-making.

Students will undertake courses in design, narrative, imaging, animation (2D and 3D), time based and interactive authoring and basic computing, programming, maths and physics. This program was designed in response to industry demand for graduates with strong conceptual, game design and narrative skills.

It does this in the context of a broader computer science and software engineering framework, applicable to the IT industry in general. A key feature of the program is that students undertake projects and core courses with students from Digital Art and Games Graphics Design programs. Access to courses from these two streams, and further courses in Computer Science, are available by means of electives.

Students study practical and theoretical courses developed in conjunction with industry. The Diploma provides training for individuals who will be employed as paraprofessionals or technologists in the areas of scientifi c or commercial photography. During second year, students produce a high quality professional folio in their major area of study. This area could be in technical photography such as colour laboratory practices, monochrome printing services, audiovisual, electronic imaging or in commercial photography such as illustrative, fashion, portraiture, architectural or industrial. The area of study is reinforced in a Work Placement module.

Photography*Commercial/Illustrative Major: The Commercial/Illustrative major is for students who want to be a fashion, food or car photographer, take portraits or work with architects. It is designed to produce the highest calibre of commercial photographer with the ability to conceptualise and create stunning images that effectively communicate a message.

Photography*Multimedia Major: The Multimedia major is for students who are interested in the photographic image beyond the real into the virtual; beyond the still into the moving and beyond the instant into the realm of time-based imagery. This program is designed to produce photographic image makers who are able to move seamlessly within the current and future areas of image creation. Graduates are able to engage equally with new technologies within established media, across traditional boundaries.

Photography*Photojournalism/Editorial Major: The lure of exotic places and people can lead to travel, documentary, editorial and news-based image creation. Students who desire to harness the communicative power of people and places via photographic expression, are potential photojournalists. The Photojournalism/Editorial major is designed to produce world class graduates in the fi elds of documentary, reportage and photojournalism ready to enter a diverse and exhilarating fi eld whose boundaries cross all continents and all peoples.

The Screen program has been designed according to the specifi cations of the National Training Package for the Film, Television and Multimedia industry. Teaching staff include many current or recent industry practitioners, providing teaching across a wide range of disciplines. Students enjoy contact with a range of staff comprising full-time core staff, part-time specialists and industry guest presenters.

Diploma of Audiovisual Technology2 years full timewww.rmit.edu.au/programs/c5128Students undertaking these programs learn theory and practical skills relating to a wide range of audiovisual systems. A variety of production techniques including live sound, digital video, web and online animation are examined. These skills enable students to plan and produce material for use in audiovisual presentations, events and all types of media production. Satisfactory completion of these programs will give competency in selected Learning Units from the following Training Packages:* CUE03: Entertainment Industry* CUF01: Film TV and Multimedia

Bachelor of Arts (Music Industry)3 years full time/6 years part timewww.rmit.edu.au/programs/bp047The Bachelor of Arts (Music Industry) is a multidisciplinary vocational undergraduate degree designed to give students who have completed a TAFE diploma (or advanced diploma) in Music Performance or Music Business (or equivalent) the opportunity to continue their studies from either a performance or music business perspective. Students enter the program at Second Year, with full credit being given for at least the fi rst year due to recognition of prior learning. Program offers students the opportunity to continue developing skills associated with working in the music industry. The program content includes courses dealing with current issues and practices in the music industry; optional courses in either performance practice and presentation skills or specifi c business areas; linked negotiated projects; and industry-based fi eld experience.

It has established a reputation as the place to study for writers serious about breaking into the industry, and the place for fi lmmakers and production companies to look for trained, talented and creative new writers. The program provides specialist training in writing for fi lm, television and digital media, across all genres. While encouraging students to develop their own creative strengths, it exposes them to the professional context for screenwriters, including the make-up of local and international industries, professional practice, analysis of entry points and career management. All teachers come from industry, and are actively involved in writing, production or media. Local practitioners are invited as guest speakers to share their experience with students and all students have the opportunity to work with mentors in leading companies and on all types of productions.

Diploma of Professional Writing & Editing2 years full time/5 years part timewww.rmit.edu.au/programs/c5181RMIT’s Professional Writing and Editing program is designed for students who wish to write at a professional level. Once they have completed the core fi rst-year courses Editing, Industry Overview and Computer Skills for Writers and Editors, students can customise their program by choosing courses that refl ect their interests and goals. The program offers both fi ction and non-fi ction writing courses, in which students can write and workshop their material to industry standard. The editing courses prepare participants for employment in the publishing industry while Desktop Publishing and Photography for Writers are designed for students who wish to work in the publishing and communication industries. Potential applicants should note that the majority of students are mature age, many with undergraduate or higher degrees.
