High Voltage Isolation

A high voltage environment is an area that is susceptible to a Ground Potential Rise (GPR) event. In some cases a voltage potential between the ground grid and remote earth can exceed 100kV. Common locations with GPR occurrences are power generating facilities, power substations, and towers for high voltage transmission lines. In all cases where copper telecommunication lines (remote grounds) are allowed into high voltage environments catastrophic failures can occur due to GPR, endangering facility personnel and equipment.

RLH Fiber Optic Links isolate telecommunication lines by replacing the copper telephone cable with an all-dielectric fiber optic cable inside the high voltage area. RLH Fiber Optic Links can completely eliminate the presence of the telephone line remote ground in order to insure the safety of personnel and greatly improve equipment reliability.

Fiber Optic Cable ProductsRLH carries an expanded variety of fiber optic cables available for both indoor and outside plant applications, offering the highest quality cable from several of the industries leading manufacturers. Fiber cable can be ordered in large reels or small cut piece quantities, and are available with factory installed connectors. Contact an RLH sales office for fiber cable types not listed, such as armored, double jacket, figure-8, and hybrid cables.

Fiber Optic Cable

• Distribution Cable (Indoor)Distribution fiber cable is a compact tight buffered cable which contains no gel. Each fiber strand has a color coded 900-micron jacket. The cable outer jacket is also color coded for singlemode (yellow) or multimode (orange) type fiber. Riser (OFNR) and Plenum (OFNP) rated cables are available.

For installation into a patch or distribution panel connectors can be installed directly onto the 900-micron fiber. When the cable is connecting directly into the end device a 2 or 3mm breakout kit is recommended.

• Tight Buffer Cable and Loose Tube (Indoor/Outdoor)Indoor/Outdoor fiber cable allows for installation flexibility by providing outside plant ruggedness and UV protection, while maintaining fire ratings for indoor use.

Tight buffer indoor/outdoor cables are available in both Riser (OFNR) and Plenum (OFNP) rating.

• Loose Tube - ADSS Cable (Outdoor)Loose tube fiber optic cable allows for smaller diameter and higher strand counts to be used in outside plant environments such as aerial applications. The cable consist of one or several gel filled tubes each containing 6-12 individual 250µm fiber strands inside. Fiber strands can be directly spliced, or connectorized with the use of a breakout kit.

Standard loose tube OSP fiber cable can be placed above or under ground inside a conduit, aerially lashed, or in some cases direct buried. Nylon jacketed loose tube cable offers additional chemical and rodent protection.

Custom Outdoor and Aerial Breakout Assemblies

Pulling Sheath Cable Assembly with Single Pulling Sheath

RLH Industries, Inc. manufactures fiber optic cable assemblies. Fiber optic cables assemblies can easily be installed with little or no fiber experience. Pre-terminated fiber provides a convenient and cost effective engineering solution. Fiber optic strand counts from 1-156 can be pre-terminated.

Outdoor and aerial custom fiber cable assemblies are made mainly with loose tube, 250 micron, fiber cable. These require the installation of a breakout kit. RLH breakout kits come with a standard 3 feet of 3mm buffer tubing; different lengths, diameters, as well as color coded breakout kits are also available upon request. Each individual fiber strand is numbered at the end of the connector boot.

RLH Industries, Inc. carries and distribute tight buffer and loose tube fiber optic cable, multimode and single mode, in a wide array of fiber strand counts to meet your specific requirements.

Our tight buffer fiber optic cable is a compact indoor cable with individually buffered fibers. This fiber type is available for Indoor, Riser (OFNR) or Plenum (OFNP) applications, as well as indoor/outdoor applications.

Loose tube fiber optic cable allows for a smaller diameter higher fiber count cable to be used in outside plant environments. We carry both outdoor rated and aerial rated loose tube, 250 micron, fiber cable.

Pigtail PacksOur ready to splice fiber optic pigtail packs are available in sets of 6 fibers, using Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate & White, and 12 fibers, using the 12 standard industry colors. They are available in single-mode, 9/125, as well as multimode, OM1, OM2 & OM3. The 900 micron fiber pigtails measure 3 meters long and are packaged with spiral wrap making them easy to use for any and all splicing applications. They are available with LC, ST, SC, & FC connectors. The typical insertion loss is <.30 dB. Our pigtail packs can also be pre-loaded into our fiber patch panels.

• Optimum Series Patch PanelsThe RLH Optimum Series patch panels are fully integrated fiber distribution units designed for 19/23” rack mount applications. The user friendly design is available in 2 sizes to hold up to 8 fiber adapter plates (192-fibers) and 8 splice trays. These feature rich patch panels are ideal for installation in a wide variety of environments including equipment rooms, central offices, and outdoor enclosures.

Optimum Series patch panels are constructed from powder coated aluminum alloy, and feature a removable hinged smoked acrylic door with quarter-turn cam-lock, removable slide out tray, and removable rear access self-sealing entry grommets. Optional strain relief kits featuring Peel n’ Seal technology provide proper routing and securing of fiber optic entrance cables every time. Patch panels are designed for RLH Adapter Plates which are ordered separately. Adapter plates, fiber cable assemblies or pigtails can be custom ordered and pre-terminated into the enclosure for ease of installation.

• Slimline Single Plate Patch Panel RLH Slimline Single Plate Patch Panel is designed for fiber optic patching and splicing applications where a DIN rail or wall mount unit is desired. This sturdy powder coated steel enclosure (standard color grey) is available with ST, SC, FC, LC, MTRJ, UPC and APC style adapters pre-installed on our standard adapter plate. The fiber capacity is dependent on the fiber adapter plate used.

• NEMA 4 Wall Mount Patch PanelsNEMA 4 indoor/outdoor wall patch panels are designed for fiber optic patching and splicing applications when a weatherproof enclosure is required. These industrial enclosures are available in 3 sizes to accept up to 288 fibers. A quarter-turn lock on the door provides added network security. Each cabinet includes a door with a gasket for maximum sealing, fiber management spools, and built-in strain relief lugs for securing fiber cable. Self-sealing rubber grommets and liquid tight strain relief cable grips accommodate multiple cable entrances and exits. The cabinets may be easily pole mounted using the optional pole mount bracket.

Innerducts are used for added protection when multiple fiber optic cables are installed into the same conduit. RLH carries innerduct types for outside plant and indoor applications. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) offers high tensile strength while being impervious to abrasion, scouring and root penetration. Riser rated material meets building fire code safety standards.
