River Woodworking

All River Woodworking desktops and cabinets are constructed of one-inch solid hardwood for years of durable service.

Drawers in all roll top and flat top desks are constructed using dovetail joints for maximum strength. These joints are glued, assembled and sanded for the most solid construction.

All roll-tops are constructed from a solid piece of wood to maintain the consistent wood grain. Wood tops are slit to provide flexibility and backed with webbing to provide years of smooth operation.

Quality Construction

Desks are stained and finished in River Woodworking’s finish shop. Stain is applied using a spray gun for even application then hand rubbed to remove excess.

After a light sanding to smooth out any raised grain, each desk receives a finish coat that provides a durable surface that resists stains and scratches.

A wide variety of hardware is available, creating a customized touch to each desk. Choose from solid wood drawer pulls in a variety of finishes, as well as a selection of metal pulls in brushed brass, brushed silver or coated black finishes.

Natural hardwood varies in its color and grain. These wood characteristics give each piece

of solid wood furniture its unique charm, and, although the finishing processes are identical, no two pieces will be exactly the same. River Wood-working strives to bring out that natural beauty and character in each desk it produces.

Because most hardwood is open grained, furniture made from solid wood tends to expand and con-tract with changes in humidity and temperature, even after protective finishes have been applied. Care in controlling the furniture’s environment should be exercised in order to minimize the minor cracking and warping that is a natural part of the wood’s character.

Indoor humidity should be kept in the 35 to 40 percent range to minimize these effects. Additionally, direct sunlight and florescent fixtures that contain ultra-violet rays can cause chemical changes in the wood and finish and should be avoided. Furniture should also be kept away from direct sources of heating and cooling and out of attic or basement storing environments.

With proper care, solid wood furniture will provide a lifetime of enjoyment and can be passed on to future generations.
