Kids of Character by Kam Fohey
During the month of March at River Ridge Elementary School we celebrated the character theme of “Perseverance.” In Guidance class we talked about the concepts of not giving up, the importance of asking for help, and the idea of trying different approaches to accomplish tasks.
We held our monthly character assembly on April 2 and heard an essay by 4th grader Emery Simerson about a time he showed perseverance. We also gave away eighteen character awards to individuals that showed perseverance during the month of March. We are very proud of our students at River Ridge and the amazing character they show every day! The River Ridge Middle School Student Council sponsored a project in preparation for Earth Day - Monday, April 22, 2019. On Thursday, April 11, the 5th - 8th graders teamed up with RR elementary students to decorate “Earth Day” themed grocery bags. The bags will be distributed at the Prairie du Chien Piggly Wiggly on Earth Day! The project was a lot of fun and it was great to see the collaboration between students of all ages!

SENIOR AWARDS BANQUET May 22, 2019 at Huckleberry’s in Prairie du Chien. Dinner will begin at 7:00 PM. RSVP’s are due May 6, 2019
The River Ridge High School Student Council and National Honor Society sponsored their Annual Can Drive to help cele-brate Earth Day. The 4K-6th grade students brought in a large number of aluminum cans, which were collected and weighed the week of Earth Day. These classes competed to bring in the largest amount of aluminum and win a Culver’s Kid’s Meal coupon for each student in that grade.
Congratulations to the 5th grade class for winning this year’s competition! However, no one will be left out because Culver’s will provide custard for the entire staff and students to enjoy! A huge “Thank You” goes out to Jason & Jen Cathman for all of their support through-out this project. We would also like to thank Alternative Recycling in Lancaster for giving us a good rate on the aluminum that was collected.

The 2019 Duke and Duchess were Eric Breuer and Tova Lindberg, Prince and Princess were Ryan West and Emily Struntz and this year’s King and Queen were

A special thank you to Karen Morovits of the Prairie du Chien Country Club for pro-viding a beautiful venue for our event. Our thanks to everyone who helped in making Prom 2019 a success.

Rver Ridge Middle School Student Council Members visited Bluff Haven Assisted Living in Prairie du Chien on Thursday, April 4 to assist residents with technology needs such as how to find recipes or to just show them how the technology worked. The students worked with the residents and made many connections as they explored what technology is available in our world today! Both the residents and students learn new things from each other. Lots of laughs, memories, and hugs were shared all around!

River Ridge Student Washington DC Trip Launches Shoe Drive Fundraiser Too Raise Money for their 8th Grade Washington DC Trip in the fall of 2019.
The River Ridge Student Washington DC Trip is con-ducting a shoe drive fundraiser which began on April 1, 2019 and will end June 30, 2019 to raise funds for the 8th Grade Washington DC Trip. The River Ridge Student Washington DC Trip will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Those dollars will go towards their trip. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at Brenda’s Beauty Bar, Clare Bank, Ma’s Bakery, Stop N Go, Hermsen’s Ace Hardware and Home Store, People’s State Bank, and St. Mary’s School in Bloomington; Dillman’s, Prairie du Chien Country Club, and Sport’s World in Prairie du Chien; Grant County Administration Building in Lancaster; Bagley Hotel in Bagley; People’s State Bank in Mt. Hope, People’s State Bank and River Ridge Schools in Patch Grove; and People’s State Bank in Glen Haven. All donated shoes will then be redistributed through-out the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries
where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send her son to law school.
“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Tish Bur-meister, President of the River Ridge Student Washing-ton DC Trip. “We know most people have extra shoes in their closets they would be willing to donate. By doing so, we raise money for the trip, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone.” By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to the River Ridge Student Washington DC Trip, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.
