RIT’s New Faculty Orientation 2017 Presenters (IN SESSION ORDER) Lynn Wild, Ph.D. Associate Provost for Faculty Development and The Wallace Center Dr. Wild oversees The Wallace Center which includes RIT Libraries and RIT Press and guides the Faculty Development team to support faculty and their careers. Striving to meet the needs of RIT faculty in Rochester, NY, as well as at RIT’s global campuses, she closely works with Deans, faculty, administrators and staff. In addition to her administrative role, she enjoys teaching a number of RIT online courses. Jeremy Haefner, Ph.D. Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Haefner is RIT’s Chief Academic Officer in charge of education and research missions of the university. In support of campus priorities, he oversees a number of RIT strategic initiatives as well as RIT’s nine colleges, two institutes, three global campuses, and various university-level programs. David R. Reetz, Ph.D. Director, Counseling & Psychological Services, Division of Student Affairs Dr. Reetz, a licensed psychologist in mental health, has held the dual role of clinician and administrator in higher education, serving as the campus leader on all mental health matters. His vision aligns with RIT and the professional community by fusing strength-based student mental health and wellness to integrated academic, personal, and professional development and success. Mark J. Rosica, Moderator Associate Professor/Counselor, Student & Academic Services, National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) Mark is an Associate Professor/Counselor in Student and Academic Services at NTID/RIT. He is also an institute mediator for the Center for Student Conduct and Conflict Management and adjunct faculty for the Information and Computing Studies Department.

RIT’s New Faculty Orientation 2017 Presenters (IN SESSION ORDER)

Karen Beiter Assistant Professor, Instructional/Support Faculty, Information and Computing Studies, NTID Karen’s primary responsibilities are as program coordinator for cross-registered bachelor-level students; tutoring, advising and helping students obtain support services; and teaching courses such as Introduction to Programming and Freshman Seminar.

Kelly Davis Lecturer/Support Coordinator, NTID, Business Studies Kelly, an RIT Saunders College of Business (SCB) alumna, former staff member and a current faculty member, teaches Financial Accounting and tutors all of NTID SCB’s cross registered students in their Finance, Accounting and General Business courses.

Ann Marie Kuntz Manager, Real-time Captioning & Notetaking Services (RTCNT), Department of Access Services Ann Marie began her career at RIT as a Captionist at NTID in 1997, was promoted to Coordinator, and eventually as Manager of RTCNT. Her priority is improving the skills of the captioning staff, using technology to best support the students of RIT/NTID for both captioning and notetaking, and never losing focus on RIT’s most important resources – the students.

Stephen Nelson Director, Operations, Department of Access Services Steve Nelson began in the field of interpreting in 1979, joining NTID in 1980. Steve has been a coordinator of interpreting, manager of the interpreting team serving CLA, and the Director of Access Services. He currently works as Director of Operations supporting delivery of interpreting, real-time captioning and notetaking provided by NTID Access Services.

Christine Licata, Ed.D. Senior Associate Provost, Academic Affairs Dr. Licata has worked in the field of education for 40 years and is known for her research in the areas of faculty evaluation and post-tenure review. Her current responsibilities include oversight of Academic Program Development and Approval Process, advancing student academic success and retention initiatives, and oversight of academic support programs, among others.

Sharon Beckford-Foster, Ph.D. Chair and Associate Professor, English, College of Liberal Arts Dr. Beckford-Foster is also an advisor for Global Literatures and Cultures Minor, as well as a fellow at the Centre for Feminist Research and an associate fellow at the Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLAC) at York University. Her research and teaching interests include African American, Postcolonial, and Canadian Literature, Digital Humanities, Women’s and Gender Studies; and others.

Shalini (Shal) Khazanchi, Ph.D. Chair and Associate Professor, Management, IB & Entrepreneurship, Saunders College of Business Dr. Khazanchi’s research interests include creativity and innovation, organizational justice, and work relationships. Her current research projects focus on environmental influence on work relationships, gender differences in creative performance, and calling among creative workers.

Stephen J. Zilora Chair and Professor, Information Sciences and Technologies, GCCIS Professor Zilora specializes in programming and databases. His areas of interest include the software development process, database applications, and Informatics. He strives to bring a grounding to the subject matter and regularly cites actual industrial applications in class and brings in industry experts in order to achieve this goal.

Cheryl A. Herdklotz, Ph.D. Sr. Faculty Career Development Consultant, The Wallace Center Dr. Herdklotz is part of the Faculty Career Development team for research, design and development of a continuum of faculty programs and services for all RIT faculty. She is a member of the Wallace Center Executive Team with oversight for TWC’s Human Resources and Student Employment functions.

Anne Marie Canale, MS Faculty Career Development Consultant, The Wallace Center Anne is responsible is part of the Faculty Career Development (FCD) team working in the research, design and development of a continuum of faculty programs and services for all RIT faculty. She is also an adjunct faculty in the School of Individualized Studies (SOIS) and CAST

Tina Sturgis Senior Associate Registrar

Tina’s responsibilities include Academic Degree Audit, Transfer and Test Credit, University SIS Training, Project Lead the Way, Rush-Henrietta and Non-Degree Enrollments, University ID's and Administrative Department Liaison

Luke Auburn Senior Communication Specialist, University News

Luke provides public relations coverage for the Office for Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Graduate Education and the Wallace Center. He began his career at RIT in 2010 with Information & Technology Services to help with the Student Information System implementation. He is an RIT alumnus, graduating in 2009 and 2015.

Stephanie Bauschard Associate Director, University Advising Office

Stephanie is an associate director in the University Advising Office where she is responsible for the management and leadership of Starfish @ RIT. She began her career at RIT in 2002 in Student Affairs and moved to Academic Affairs in 2010 to focus on student success initiatives at the university. Stephanie is a proud alumna of both RIT and Syracuse University.

Margaret Bartlett Sr. Manager Research and Instruction Services, RIT Libraries, The Wallace Center

Margaret manages the library liaisons assigned to each college. Over her 30 years at RIT, she also has served as the RIT College of Business Liaison, Information Specialist, and served on the Conference Board in New York City. Currently she is a member of RIT’s Student Success Steering Committee.

Neil Hair, Ph.D. Executive Director, Innovative Learning Institute (ILI) As Executive Director of the ILI, Dr. Hair leads the initiatives for innovative teaching practices, promoting faculty awareness of successful innovations, and executing RIT’s online portfolio of learning products. His research and consulting activities focus on relationship marketing, personal branding in virtual space, and virtual ethnography in online worlds.

Ian Webber Director of Teaching & Learning Services (TLS), ILI Academic Systems Support, Classroom Technology, and Online Student Experience teams within TLS. Ian also collaborates with faculty and staff to investigate and effectively integrate new and emerging technologies into online and campus courses

Matt Nicosia Supervisor of Classroom Technology Operations, ILI Matt oversees the day-to-day support and maintenance of Registrar-supported classrooms. He holds several industry certifications and has more than 15 years of experience in audiovisual technologies. Matt has been with RIT since fall 2011.

Ken Kindler Manager, Academic Technology Systems, Innovative Learning Institute (ILI) Ken is responsible for operations, management, and technical support of the TLS-supported technologies. Ken has been with RIT since 1991 and has worked in a variety of capacities, including as a classroom instructional services supervisor and a manager of instructional services.

Jeremiah Parry-Hill Interim Manager for Instructional Design, Innovative Learning Institute (ILI) Jeremiah is responsible for the coordination and tracking of new online programs through the design and implementation process; he also tracks instructional design initiatives and projects. With a background in human-computer interaction and accessibility technology, he desires to improve online course experiences for all learners

Margaret Bailey, Ph.D., P.E.

Sr. Faculty Associate for ADVANCE, PI Dr. Bailey is the PI for RIT’s ADVANCE Institutional Transformation grant and is leading a large effort in support of our female faculty working in STEM fields (http://nsfadvance.rit.edu/). She is also a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering teaching thermodynamics related courses

Kijana Crawford, Ed.D. Chair AALANA Faculty Advisory Council Dr. Crawford is a Professor in Sociology/Anthropology and leads the program’s women of color (WoC) social science research area, focusing on identifying needs unique to women of color faculty. Her research interests include mentoring in career choice and development, race, class and gender, women, work and culture, minority relations, and African-American culture.

Elizabeth Dell Faculty Associate for Women Faculty Betsy Dell is a Professor in the Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MMET) department in CAST. In her FA role, she serves as a liaison for women faculty across the campus and provides guidance and support to those who seek tenure or promotion. In addition; she also chairs the Council for the Representation & Engagement of Women Faculty (CREW).

Marcos Esterman, Ph.D.

Faculty Associate for AALANA Faculty In his role as Faculty Associate Marcos is focused on faculty retention among AALANA faculty. He is also an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director of the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department in Kate Gleason College of Engineering. His teaching interests are in product and process development, and systems engineering.

Elizabeth Hane, Ph.D. Faculty Associate for General Education Elizabeth is an Associate Professor and Associate Head, Gosnell School of Life Sciences, College of Science. As an FA she supports RIT’s general education program to foster a culture of continuous improvement in students’ experiences; to support advisors and students as they navigate the curriculum; and to communicate the life-long importance of the skills developed as part of the general education curriculum.

Daniel Phillips, Ph.D. Faculty Associate for the Partnerships for Effective Access Dan, a Professor in Biomedical Engineering, KGCOE, serves as a leader and recognized point of contact for Effective Access Technology efforts. As an FA, he collaborates with cross-disciplinary teams of faculty pursuing research and development in a number of areas. His collaborative relationships also extend to the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and Rochester General Hospital.

Elena Sommers, Ph.D. Faculty Associate for Non-Tenure Track Faculty Elena is currently Principal Lecturer of Russian and Global Literature in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology, CLA. As an FA, Elena’s role includes professional mentoring and advocacy. She works closely with the Provost’s office to identify strategies for RIT to better support professional and career development of this large group of faculty. [Not present]

Judy DeCourcey Senior Benefits Specialist, Human Resources

Judy has worked at RIT for nearly 20 years, and has over 30 years’ experience in the employee benefits field. With an MBA from Northeastern University in Boston, she also holds the designation of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Society for Human Resource Management.
