Title: Solid lipid nanoparticles composition comprising docetaxel for oral formulation
Registration # 1017995390000
Patent Agency: Korea Intellectual Property
Registration Date: 14thNovember, 2017.
Patent Description: Docetaxel (DTX) has been used in clinics as one of the most effective
chemotherapeutic agent to treat a variety of cancers including breast, ovarian, prostrate,
colorectal and nonsmallcell lung cancer.Taxotere® is a currently available marketed, micelles
based product of DTX and is composed of high concentration of Tween-80 and ethanol to
solubilize DTX for intravenous infusion. However, significant adverseeffects such as
hypersensitivity reactions, neutropenicfever, anaemia, fluid retention, anorexia, skin
toxicityand peripheral neuropathy have been reported withTween-80/ethanol-based
DTXformulation. In the product being patented, our main aim was to develop solid lipid
nanoparticles of DTX to improve the solubility and pharmacokinetics of DTX after oral
administration without usinghigh concentrations of organic solvent and surfactant used in the
commercialDTX formulation (Taxotere®). Our results showed that the developed DTX-
nanoparticles had superior pharmacokinetics profile after oral administration compared to
DTX-micelles based on commercial formulation. The developed DTX-nanoparticles
formulation could be one of the alternative drug carrier to the currently marketed DTX
formulation.
