Hi my name is

Welcome

I like to think of myself as a designer Irsquom trained in graphic design and I have been designing for my income over the past few years This career as it has also been varied and taken me on many different paths of being as designer as I would like to show your through my portfolio

I have designed logos to billboards web sites to TV pieces and a large amount in the middle be it print or digital lucky enough to grow up in an age of Facebook and Youtube I have been able to start my own projects and freelance as well as work contract and in a studio

This background has given me a diverse range on skills from dealing with customers and clients to sitting in a room by myself for long hours at a time to get things done to a deadline

I have always had a passion for design and visual arts which is how I got into it all and being fortunate enough to design for companies and people who share a similar vision or let me create something that I like to look at

Having worked in a variety of environments and a variety of media I am always learning new tools and techniques to create the next piece this is one of my favourite parts of being a designer

So thats a little about who I am take some time to look at what I have done and maybe we can work together on creating something new

ThanksRiley Bathurst

I began working with Chill adventures back in the winter of 2009 as a freelance photographer that turned up to a big mountain skiing competition and got a few shots for their annual winter magazine

As Chill began to move from a winter only operation with a multi mountain ski pass to a year round business with summer based around mountain biking I was brought into the Chill Studiorsquos as a designer and photographer

I worked on creating new advertisement as well as updating and modifying current ads to have them fit within the new summer focused magazine

I worked on 13 Adrsquos from new designs of full page adrsquos to adjustments on small strip banners for a range of companies

I shot a large number of photos including the cover of the magazine

Continuing my work with Chill Studios as they are branching away from their winter image bringing in a fleet of vintage bikes for hire the style of design is to reflect the bikes from the 1970rsquos and incorporate the indie culture and those looking for an envi-ronmentally friendly and relaxing way to see the city

The target audience involves those on holiday who can rent by the hour up to a week at a time as well as local who can enjoy different parts of the city meaning the deign can not feel to ldquotouristyrdquo

Taking the design to the second season also meant bringing in a website to fit with in the design style bring the colours out more and keeping the design fresh

The Lost Duck was a brand new fortnightly publication containing an events guide maps advertising directory restaurant guide and more about to launch in the town of Whistler BC Canada looking for a designer to create a map of the village

After a quick interview I drew a map in about 10 seconds flat and went so something like this We agreed then I spent time making it what I thought was better until we kept coming back to the original sketch and finally refined what we were looking for and as I could do that I was asked to stay on as publication designer

As the designer for the first season of the Lost Duck I created six issues the maps advertisements as well as editorial content and photography

The Lost Duck is targeted toward the large amount of visitors to Whistler who need use maps guides and events that can all fit easily into a pocket as well as the locals who can find out about one time events such as music acts or changes to weekly events with the community notices

Each issuersquos cover has the same basic look and feel but changes colour so that a new issue can be easily identified The design is simple to make sure the content is most important and fitting in large amounts of content to a publication that has a fixed size is of major importance

The Clubbies is a project I have been looking to for a number of years taking my background in the action sports industry and taking it to a documentary style ap-proach of something unique that New Zealand has to offer the club ski fields of the South Island

Spending a large amount of the 2011 winter in the mountains I have worked with a small crew to produce a series that has captured the attention of some of the worlds largest snowboarding websites and outdoor enthusiasts to gather more than five thousand views for the two episodes out so far

I was producer half of the film team also the photographer designer for the market-ing material the logo the website live at wwwtheclubbiescomand managed to get myself in front of the lens to ride more than I expected to as well

NZwakeboardcom was my first large scale personal project released to the public starting in the spring of 2010 I developed and almost single-handedly produced the content for a New Zealand wakeboard and wakeskating blog

I was disappointed with the lack of media coverage I could receive while competitively wakeboarding around NZ so I decided that I had all the skills to make the media point myself I may not have had all the skills but in the first year I have learnt a lot and continue to do so as the site passes through 200 blog post and I created a dozen videos in the first summer alone

With the help of a few riders and some fans I have created the start of what I would like to see in a media channel for New Zealand wakeboarders

The site is live at NZwakeboardcom and has over 500 likes on facebookcomnzwakeboard

To Whom It May Concern

Riley Bathurst worked as a graphic designer for Yellow Duck Publications for the 2009-2010 winter season in Whistler BC Canada

Riley is without doubt a truly hard working individual In the time that he worked for me he showed a maturity dedication and professionalism that is quite rare to find

In the many employees I have had in various businesses over the years Riley stands out as an individual that was able to demonstrate a reliability and work ethic that was truly remarkable

Riley was easily able to grasp concepts and ideas and work on them with little supervision or direction When there was need to conceptualize an idea Riley was always able to offer useful suggestions and ideas

Without the hard work of Riley on lsquothe Lost Duckrsquo I have little doubt that the project would have been as successful as it was

I have no hesitation in recommending Riley and I wish him every success for the future

ReferenceThe Lost Duck
