RIFLE RECREATION is located on the lower level of City Hall, 202 Railroad Ave. Office hours are usually 8 AM-5 PM, Monday-Fri-day. If you cannot make these hours, please call and we will set something up. Because we are a small department, we are not in the of-fice at all times. Rifle Recreation is commit-ted to supporting the AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT. Please call us if you require special assistance for participation in our programs.
Deadlines
Why does Rifle Recreation have deadlines?
Why does Rifle Recreation charge late fees?
Why does Rifle Recreation register so early for sports activities?
Why can’t we add another child to a full team?
We receive these questions often, especially after deadlines have passed.
Deadlines are set so we have time to organize activities. Most deadlines are set a week before an activity begins. Usually, these activities need just a head count so we have
proper staffing.
Some activities we have our deadlines over a month before the activity starts, such as youth baseball. The reason the registration deadline is so early is because we need to complete the following before the season begins:
Split players up into teamsOrder uniformsMeet with the other towns to make game schedulesMake sure we have enough coachesMake sure we have enough sponsors for the teamsMake sure we have enough equipment for each of the teamsHave a coaches meeting to schedule practices
Why do we charge a late fee?
The foremost reason is to have participants register on time. After a deadline has passed, we need to do extra work for a new participant to be enrolled such as:
Ordering an extra uniform. This costs us more after our initial order, we save money with bulk orders
Ordering extra equipment
Contacting the coach or instructor with the new information, since rosters have usually been distributed
Rifle Recreation puts limits on the amount of children on a team for the following reasons:
Extra players on teams effect all participants playing time
Kid management (the more kids, the harder it is for the volunteer coaches)
Equipment (we make sure there is enough equipment, i.e. basketballs, for each child)
To avoid these hassles, register before the reg-istration deadline. Take a look at the Activity Registration Dates page

L o o k i n g f o r w a r d . . .As part of our mission, Rifle Parks and Recreation strives to create the best programs and facilities for Rifle and its surrounding communities.
As 2012 heads into the fall season, Rifle Parks and Recreation looks to 2013 with renewed vision, forward thinking and innovative planning. As such, we have many new and exciting projects in mind, on the horizon, or already within stages of completion.
Rifle Parks and Recreation’s top priorities for 2013-2014 include:
• DeerfieldGrant/DeerfieldParkImprovements o See below • TrailSystem o ContinueplanningthecompletiontheRifleCreekTrailfromtheRestAreatoDeerfieldParkandconstructwhenfundsare available.• CentennialParkPlayground o Master plan has been completed and will be constructed at the north end of the great bowl when funds are available.• BoatRamp o PlanningcontinueswiththeVisitor’sImprovementFundboardtoconstructaboatrampatasaferlocation westoftheexistingrampwithaparkinglot, trailsystemandotheramenities.
Of the above priorities, winning a grant to improve Deerfield Park looms as one of our most anticipated. Deerfield Park is located at 300 East 30th Street, and with four softball fields, two soccer fields and one baseball diamond, it is Rifle’s main sports park. This facility hosts all youth and adult softball and baseball practices and games as well as practices for youth soccer programs and will be the future venue for the new Flag Football program this fall. Cooper Field is the Baseball Diamond in Deerfield Park and acts as the venue for all local games, hosting Rifle High School and Rifle Parks and Recreation leagues. This field will be a primary focus on the new improvements set to take place in Deerfield Park. While these facilities serve the fundamental needs of our local sports programs, a variety of improvements would make this facility
more community friendly and inviting, enhancing the quality of the park and visitors’ experiences. Aleks Briedis, Rifle Recreation Director, has submitted a grant to Great Outdoors Colorado to fund this sought-after project. A
grant decision will be made mid-December. “We have a good facility to host our sports programs, but receiving a grant to help us round out the functionality and
sustainability of Deerfield Park will both enable and promote broader use, enhancing the experience for participants and spectators alike -- and, that’s something we’re excited to get underway as
soon as possible.”
If the grant is awarded, park improvements will include:• ADA(handicapaccessible)compliantimprovementsincluding:Threesetsof
accessible Cooper Field bleachers; Parking lot accessibility to Cooper Field, and accessible in-ground dugouts (versus the current use of temporary sheds).•PermanentrestroomsbyCooperField(versuscurrentuseofportablefacilities).•Lightingintheparkinglot(currently,oncefieldlightsareturnedoffafternight games there is no lighting, which causes a safety concern).• Avarietyoflandscapingtohelpbeautifythearea.
• Installationofadewateringsystem(Soggyareasoftenpersistintheoutfieldof Roan Field and in the northeast corner of the Anvil Points field).
• ConstructionofaconcessionstandandpressboxbehindCooperField• TheconstructionofalandscapedplazaaroundCooperField
If awarded, the projected timeline to complete these improvements will be Fall of 2013. Please check the City of Rifle website for updates!
