However, the Broncs haven’t won at Siena since Dec. 7, 2012 and are just 5-17 all-time in road games against the Saints. As part of an unbalanced MAAC schedule, Rider did not play regular-season contests at Siena in 2017-18 or 2018-19. However, the fourth-seeded Broncs fell on the fifth-seeded Saints’ home court in the 2019 MAAC Quarterfinals.

BETTER THAN A 50-50 CHANCERider shot a season-high 54.5 percent (30-55) in victory over Niagara on Feb. 9. Included was 8-of-9 shooting from Tyere Marshall and 7-of-9 from Frederick Scott. It marked the sixth time this season that Rider has shot better than 50 percent, all resulting in Rider wins. FROM START TO FINISHRider led from wire-to-wire for the third time this season, Feb. 9 against Ni-agara. The Broncs also never trailed at Delaware State on Nov. 8 and at Man-hattan on Jan. 26. DIMENCIO DIALED INDimencio Vaughn scored a season-high 28 points on 10-of-11 shooting at Mon-mouth on Feb. 2, a game after scoring a team-high 15 points in a Jan. 31 win over Fairfield. For his effort, in which he averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 76.2 percent (16-21) from the floor and 66.7 percent (4-6) from beyond the arc, Vaughn was named MAAC Player of the Week, joining Frederick Scott (Nov. 11) and Tyere Marshall (Nov. 25) in taking home the honor this season. Vaughn followed up the honor from the MAAC with a game-high 18 points in a win over Canisius and has led the Broncs in scoring in nine of the last 13 games.

SHOOTING STARSThanks to a 69.6 percent (16-23) shooting performance in the second half, Rider shot a then-season-high 53.2 percent (25-47) for the game on Jan. 31 vs. Fairfield. It marked the fifth time this season that the Broncs have shot at least 50 percent. No Rider player attempted more than 10 shots, includ-ing Dimencio Vaughn at 6-for-10. Tyere Marshall and Willy Nuñez, Jr. were both 4-of-5, while Christian Ings made all three of his attempts and Kimar Williams made 3-of-5.

A NEW WAY TO WINAfter averaging 83.5 points per game in their first eight wins of the season, Rider has posted no more than 73 points in its next six victories for an av-erage of 68.0 points per game. In those six wins, Rider’s defense has limited the opposition to 58.5 points per game, including a pair of 52-point perfor-mances.

WIRE-TO-WIRE, GREAT SCOTTRider never trailed in its Jan. 26 road win at Manhattan. Frederick Scott led the Broncs with a career-high-tying 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds to tie for the team lead with his fourth double-double of the year. Tyere Marshall and Dimencio Vaughn have also completed four double-doubles.

PHOND OF PHILLYEight of the 12 players on Rider’s roster are either from Philadelphia or the suburbs of the city.

FOUR TIMES ONE THOUSANDThree times in a four-game stretch, Rider had a player achieve his 1,000th career point. Dimencio Vaughn became the 38th player in program history to score his 1,000th point on Jan. 12 at Marist, while Tyere Marshall followed on Jan. 19 at Canisius. Frederick Scott made it three in four games, becoming Rider’s 40th 1,000-point scorer on Jan. 24 vs. Saint Peter’s. The trio joined Stevie Jordan in the 1,000-point club, with Jordan achieving the feat last Feb. 12 at Quinnipiac. The Broncs joined Richmond as the only Division I pro-grams with four current 1,000-point scorers on their roster, while standing alone as the only program with four players who scored all 1,000 points as members of their current team. According to the NCAA, Rider is the third team in the last five years to have four 1,000-point scorers on a single team that have scored all 1,000 points, all for that team (Kansas State in 2018-19, North Carolina in 2016-17). Only six other Division I programs (BYU, Liber-ty, Illinois-Chicago, North Florida, Richmond, Southern California) current-ly have three or more 1,000-point scorers on their teams.

RANDALL REACHES NEW CAREER HIGH...AGAINTyrei Randall achieved a new career high with 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting, 2-of-3 from long range and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line against Saint Peter’s on Jan. 24. A game later, Randall again reached a new high with 16 points at Manhattan. After being a valuable contributor in his freshman year of 2017-18, Randall redshirted last season and didn’t play in the first 10 games this season.

TYERE TREMENDOUS AT CANISIUSIn reaching 1,000 career points on Jan. 19 at Canisius, Tyere Marshall scored a career-high 31 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. His 12 field goals made were also a career-high. The per-formance marked the first time since Jan. 18, 2018, that a Bronc scored 30 or more points (Dimencio Vaughn - 34 at Saint Peter’s).

2019-20 Rider Men’s BasketballVAUGHN VAULTS TO FOUR DIGITSDimencio Vaughn became the 38th player in Rider program history to score 1,000 career points on Jan. 12 at Marist. He went for 21 points and 13 rebounds in a 69-52 win in Poughkeepsie, posting his fourth double-double of the season and the eighth of his career.

CONTROLLING THE GLASSRider outrebounded its opponent in each of its first eight games and 17-of-23 overall this season. The Broncs took a 51-38 edge in the season opener at Coppin State, before dominating Delaware State, 50-29. Rider edged Arizona State, 47-45, before taking a +12 differential at UMass (42-30). The Broncs were also +7 against Columbia with a 41-34 margin, +6 (41-35) against Vermont, +4 against Bucknell (34-30) and +21 against LIU (57-36).

A LEADER IN MANY WAYSStevie Jordan is on pace to become Rider’s all-time leader in assists and steals. He currently ranks second in assists with 571, while Deon Hames ‘96 is the Broncs’ all-time leader with 598. He also has 179 career steals (3rd), with Ryan Thomp-son ‘10 topping the list with 188 takeaways.

BAGGS, THE BOSS AND BANNONRider Head Coach Kevin Baggett earned his 128th win as the Broncs’ head coach on Dec. 3 against Bucknell. The win pushed him past his current boss, Rider Ath-letic Director Don Harnum, for fourth all-time at the school. On Jan. 12, Baggett passed Kevin Bannon for third in program history with his 132nd win, while John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) top the list.

ON A TYERETyere Marshall has stepped up his game in his senior season, averaging 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 60.5 percent (112-185) from the floor. Included in the production were then-career highs in points (28) and rebounds (20) at UMass on Nov. 20. Marshall is the first Bronc since Jason Thompson ‘08 to accomplish a 20-20 game. Thompson turned the trick three times in his senior season of 2007-08, after which he was selected 12th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. For his efforts against UMass, Columbia and Vermont, Marshall was named MAAC Player of the Week on Nov. 25. Marshall later es-tablished a new career-high of 31 points on Jan. 19 at Canisius. VAUGHN IN VICTORYDimencio Vaughn had 27 points, six rebounds and two blocks in the Broncs’ 85-77 win over Siena on Jan. 5. The 27 points were his most since scoring 28 points at Marist on Feb. 10, 2018. His 10-of-11 free-throw shooting established new ca-reer highs in free throws made and attempted.

STRONG STARTAt 7-2, Rider was off to its best nine-game start to a season since the Broncs went 8-1 to begin the 1997-98 season, current Rider Athletic Director Don Harnum’s first as Head Coach. The only undefeated nine-game starts in program history came in the first and third years of its existence under the legendary Clair Bee in 1928-29 and 1930-31.

FREE AND EASYRider made 37-of-48 free-throw attempts in its Dec. 16 win over Marist. Individ-ually, Stevie Jordan (14-17) and Tyere Marshall (11-13) both set new highs in free throws attempted and made. The 37 made free throws as a team were the most since Feb. 26, 1999, when the Broncs made 39-of-46 in the MAAC Champion-ship First Round. The 48 attempts are tied for the most since Rider attempted 50 against Siena on Feb. 22, 1998.

Two-time MAAC Coach of the Year Kevin Baggett returns for his eighth season as the Rider University head basketball coach in 2019-20. In his first year as head coach, ‘Baggs’ was a finalist for two different National Coach of the Year Awards, the Ben Jobe Award and the Joe B. Hall Award. Baggett took a team with just two returning starters and six total letterwinners that was picked to finish seventh in the 10-team Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 2013 and finished in second place. He guided the 2012-13 Broncs to a 19-win season, the most by a Rider rookie head coach since Bob Greenwood led Rider to a 20-win season in 1962-63. The only other Rider basketball coach to compile 19 wins in his rookie campaign was the legendary Clair Bee. In 2013-14 Coach Baggett took a young team and produced two All-MAAC performers along with a MAAC All-Rookie team selection. His 2013-14 squad was ranked eighth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage and was 51st in Division I in three-point field goals made. In 2014-15, Baggett took a squad that was picked seventh in the MAAC and guided the team to a 21-win season and a second place finish in the conference, earning MAAC Coach of the Year honors as Rider was selected to play in the College Basketball Invitational tournament. Baggett was a finalist for the Ben Jobe National Coaching Award for the second time in three years and he was named the UPS All-District 1 Coach of the Year. The Broncs had another very successful campaign in 2016-17, winning 18 games and advancing to the MAAC Championship Quarterfinals. Rider was offered the chance to play in multiple national postseason tournaments, but declined. Seniors Jimmie Taylor and Kahlil Thomas were each named to the All-MAAC Third Team. Rider finished first in the league in rebounds per game (40.3), with three Broncs - Thomas, Norville Carey and Taylor - finishing in the top 20 individually. 2017-18 was a banner year for Baggett and the Broncs. Picked to finish seventh in the MAAC after losing four starters to graduation, the Broncs won 22 games, a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship and advanced to the NIT for the second time in program history. Baggett was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the second time in six years, took NABC All-District 1 Coach and was also a fi-nalist for the Hugh Durham and Ben Jobe Awards. Baggett guided four players to All-MAAC honors, including First Teamer Dimencio Vaughn, Second Teamer Ste-vie Jordan and Third Team honorees Jordan Allen and Frederick Scott. Scott was named MAAC 6th Player of the Year, while Allen earned All-Rookie Team honors. Vaughn was also selected to the NABC All-District Second Team and earned Sec-ond Team All-Met. As a team, Rider led the MAAC in field-goal percentage (.465), offensive rebounds per game (13.2), rebound margin (+2.6), steals per game (7.5), rebounds per game (39.2), turnover margin (+2.2) and turnovers forced per game (15.4). Jordan led the league in assists (5.9) for the second-straight year and was 26th in the nation. Allen’s 2.88 three-point field goals made per game ranked 50th in the country, while Vaughn’s 1.83 steals per game were 55th. Baggett earned his 100th career win on Jan. 26, 2018, against Saint Peter’s.

Stevie Jordan and Frederick Scott repeated as All-MAAC Second and Third Team selections, respectively, in 2018-19, as the Broncs finished tied for second in the MAAC Regular Season Standings. Jordan recorded his 1,000th career point, be-coming the 37th player in Rider history to reach the plateau.

Baggett was named the Rider men’s basketball head coach at a standing room only press conference on May 24, 2012.

“This was a popular decision,” Rider Director of Athletics Don Harnum said at that time. “It was also a convenient decision, but let me make it very clear, this was not a hire of convenience. This was a hire because I firmly believe and am very confident that Kevin is the right person to lead this program in the future.” With an emphasis on defense, Baggett’s Broncs led the MAAC in three-point field goal percentage defense in 2012-13 and was second in overall field goal percent-age defense, third in blocks and fourth in points allowed. The 2019-20 season is the 14th for Baggett as a member of the Rider staff, serving two as an assistant coach and four as an associate head coach. In the last 13 years, Rider has compiled 234 wins, the second-most in the MAAC behind only Iona (246). Baggett has coached on the Division I level for 24 years and has been on the Rider staff since the 2006-07 season. Baggett hails from Burlington, NJ and was a 2006 inductee into the South Jersey Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Saint Joseph’s 1985-86 basketball team that compiled a 26-6 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Saint Joseph’s in June, 1989. Baggett came to Rider from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he served as assistant coach from 2004-06. At UMBC Baggett recruited an America East All-Rookie Team member who went on to earn First Team All-Conference honors three times, as well as a pair of transfers from the Colonial Athletic Associ-ation who went on to earn All-America East honors. Baggett has also served as an assistant coach at James Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina.
