Welcome to week 6 of term 2 Jonathan’s note Talofa lava and welcome to week six…. half way through Term 2. What a spectacular week last week with our celebrations of Samoan language week. A special thank you to the teachers of Mua I Malae for their support in making the week one to remember for us all. It was great to see the Samoa independence day celebrations on Thursday and all of our children making the day special with their performances. On the same day we had the InterSchool Cross Country at Grey Lynn Park, which many of our children participated in. Please see later in this newsletter for details. Jonathan’s  note

ROAD  PATROLS  

We  continue  to  need  further  support  with  our  road  patrols.  If  you  can  help  from  830am  -­  9am  or  3pm  -­315pm  please  contact  Judith  on  [email protected]  By  helping  us  with  this,  it  means  teachers  can  spend  more  time  developing  engaging  programmes  for  our  children  and  building  strong  relationships,  all  of  which  are  important  for  your  child’s  success.

Position  for  Learning  Assistant  

A  position  for  a  Learning  Assistant  has  become  available.  The  position  is  for  3  hours  per  day  from  11:00am  to  2:00pm.  This  is  for  5  days  per  week  for  the  remainder  of  the  term  with  a  possibility  of  carrying  on  into  Term  3.  The  position  would  start  immediately.

 COMMUNITY  MATARIKI  CELEBRATION    

Monday  3rd  July  7:00  to  8:30am      

Kia  ora        Talofa  lava      Bonjour    

Coming  up  on  Monday  July  3rd  is  our  annual  Matariki  Celebration.  This  year  we  will  be  gathering  on  the  bottom  courts  from  7:00am  in  time  for  sunrise  at  7:30.  We  will  start  with  a  Karakia  and  signing.  Then  look  for  the  Matariki  star  cluster.  Kai  will  be  shared  in  the  hall  from  7:45.  This  will  be  provided  and  you  are  also  welcome  to  contribute.    As  this  is  a  community  event  all  are  welcome.  Mai  katoa.                      Matariki,  as  well  as  welcoming  the  New  Year,  has  been  a  time  to  acknowledge  Tupuna,  the  ancestors  who  have  gone  before  us.  Some  Māori  did  this  by  flying  kites  as  it  was  a  way  of  connecting  with  the  spiritual  world.  Some    kites  were  enormous  and  very  beautiful  like  the  one  shown  below.    During  the  rest  of  the  day  tamariki  across  all  of  our  rōpu  will  be  involved  in  learning  activities  that  have  a  Matariki  focus.  These  learning  activities  will  include  making  Matariki  kites,  korowai  (Māori  cloaks)  and  Matariki  stories.  You  are  welcome  to  join  the  classes  during  the  day.  This  may  be  for  20  minutes  or  2  hours.  We  are  flexible.    Follow  this  link  to  learn  more  about  Matariki.    https://nzhistory.govt.nz/classroom/matariki-­maori-­new-­year

NZ  Modern  School  of  Music  will  have  its  annual  Music  Competition  on:

This  year  Richmond  Road  School  will  be  represented  by  the  following  22  students:

They  are  all  practicing  their  pieces  very  hard,  some  have  even  mastered  them.    We  wish  them  all  the  very  best!  Come  support  them  if  you  can.  

UPDATE  

 

The  countdown  is  on  as  we  lead  up  to  the  Richmond  Road  School  Safari  Production!  This  year  we  are  excited  to  announce  that  we  are  having  our  production  across  two  nights  as  well  as  in  a  new  location  The  Mercury  Theatre  on  Mercury  Lane.    

The  production  will  be  held  on  Tuesday  27th  and  Wednesday  28th  June  with  a  6:30pm  start.  Students  will  be  required  to  be  dropped  off  at  the  theatre  at  5:30pm  on  both  nights  in  preparation  for  the  performance.  

The  rehearsal  day  at  the  Mercury  Theatre  is  Tuesday  27th  June  from  9:30am  to  2:30  pm.  For  the  rehearsal,  we  will  be  travelling  as  a  school  by  bus.  

 

TICKET  SALES  –  GET  IN  QUICK  

General  Admission  ticket  prices  are  $15  per  person.  A  limited  number  of  Premium  tickets  are  available  for  both  nights  at  $25  per  person  on  a  first  in,  first  served  basis.  All  tickets  are  available  on  our  online  shop.  Follow  this  link  https://goo.gl/By6xoT    

Tickets  will  be  issued  a  week  before  production.  We  will  let  you  know  once  they  are  available  to  be  picked  up.

SCHOOL  PRODUCTION  -­  SAFARI  

LEWIS  EADY  OPEN  CLASSES  

Lewis  Eady  invites  you  to  attend  your  child's  music  lesson  at  school  on  Monday  June  12.  

This  is  the  perfect  opportunity  to  observe  your  child's  lesson  in  progress  and  to  meet  their  music  teacher.  

Parent  observations  will  take  place  during  your  child's  usual  lesson  time.  On  the  day,  please  come  to  the  office  to  sign  up  beforehand.

  REMINDERS  

LUNCH  ORDERS  

If  you  want  to  order  a   lunch  for  your  child  on  the  day,  the   school   has   teamed   up   with   2   restaurants   in  Ponsonby/Grey   Lynn:  Subway   Ponsonby   and  Pane  &  Vino.    

You  can  order  Subway:  

-­   Everyday   at   school   by   dropping   your   Subway  envelope  before  9am  on  the  day.    

Please   just   make   sure   that   the   envelope   has:   the  child's   name,   the   correct   room   number,   the   money  (Subway   give   back   the   change   if   need   be)   and   the  detail  of   the  order.  Subway  has  been  notified   that  we  are   going   water   only,   so   any   drink   ordered   will   be  automatically  swapped  by  a  bottle  of  water.    

-­  Through  YQ.  This  service  is  available  everyday,  but  you  need  to  order  before  9.30am  on  the  day.

Lunches   from   Pane   &   Vino   can   now   be   ordered  everyday  through  our  school  online  shop.    

WATER  ONLY    

From  the  start  of  this  term  we  have  been  a  ‘water  only  school’.  School  staff  will  be  reminding  children  of  this  and  will  also  remove  drinks  other  than  water  from  children.  They  will  be  asked  to  take  it  home  and  not  to  bring  it  back.

STATIONERY  WITH  OFFICE  MAX  

This   year   our   class   list   requirements   loaded  up  on   to  www.myschool.co.nz.   Simply   search   for   Richmond  Road  School,  select  your  child's  unit  (TWW,  MiM,  L’A,  or  KC),  and  the  appropriate  year  level.    

Please  note   that   the  stationery  should  not  be   labelled  or  named.  We  would  like  to  do  this  as  a  class.  

LATENESS,  ABSENCE  AND  APPOINTMENTS    

If  your  child  happens  to  be  late,  please  sign  in  (or  remind  him/her  to  sign  in)  at  the  office  first  and  then  your  child  will  be  given  a  late  pass  for  the  teacher’s  attention.  Otherwise  you  will  get  an  absence  notification.  

If  you  take  your  children  out  before  the  end  of  the  day,  please  come  to  the  office  first  where  you  can  sign  your  child  out  and  be  given  a  sign  out  pass  for  the  teacher’s  attention.    

If  your  child  is  absent,  please  let  the  office  know  with  a  valid  justification  either  by  email  at  [email protected],  by  phone  or  through  the  absence  form  on  our  website,  even  if  you  have  told  the  teacher  already.  Otherwise  you  will  get  an  absence  notification.  

For  all  absence  without  justification,  we  will  send  you  an  absence  notification  through  text  or  email.  Please  make  sure  you  provide  us  with  your  latest  contact  information  and  let  us  know  if  you  have  a  preferred  contact  to  use.    

BELL  TIMES  

Children  can  arrive  from  8.30am  onwards.  School  is  from   9.00am   to   3.00pm  with  morning   tea   at   11.00-­11.30am   and   lunch   at   1.00-­1.50pm.   Please   make  sure   you   have   arranged   collection   of   your   child   by  3.30pm.
