Crunch n’ Sip https://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au/campaigns-programs/crunchsip/crunch-sip-classroom-resources.aspx

Richmond Public School implements the popular Crunch n’ Sip program on a daily basis. Students eat fruit and sip water as the teacher reads a book or the students complete a task. Though we encourage all students to bring in fruit each day, we do have students who unfortunately don’t bring in fruit. Woolworths in Richmond have kindly been providing a box of fruit each week with a loaf of bread for those students who unfortunately forget. These students come to the office and collect a piece of fruit be it an apple, banana, pear or an orange. Thank you Woolworths in Richmond for their support of our Crunch n’ Sip Program..

Welcome to our Teaching Intern Students (Reminder) Welcome to Miss Jennifer Celeban (6L) and Miss Sally Diener (3/4W) who come to us from Notre Dame Universtiy to complete their last practicuum of their four year teaching degree. Miss Celeban and Miss Diener will be part of our wonderful school for the whole of Term 3. They will be following all curiculum expectations of each class and will be working with their practicuum teachers (Mrs McGrath and Mrs Wilson) to ensure continuity of the Teaching and Learning Programs. I know you join me in welcoming them to Richmond Public School and wish them all the best on ther last practicuum.

Night of Nations! (Reminder) In aligning Richmond Public School with the History Curriculum, this term Stage 3 is celebrating a Night of Nations. The students are to study an important moment in history that affected a nation or nations within the world. Our famous Night of Notables will be occurring every second year. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to study a great moment in history. The process is very similar to our Night of Notables with the students researching facts, creating a bio-riddle, setting up a Learning Centre and presenting their famous moment in a nation’s history to their family on a special night. A great moment in Australia’s history may be the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge or for the world it may be the first Olympic Games. This will provide the students with processes to gain knowledge about the world, historical events and how they shaped a country’s history or changed the world. I look forward to being part of this great process and look forward to our first Night of Nations. CONNECT Program

– Transition to Kindergarten 2019 (Reminder)

Our CONNECT Kindergarten Transition Program is again being implemented at Richmond Public School. This is a very valuable program as it assists our new kindergraten students adjust to ‘big school’. During the program, the students borrow from the library, become familiar with the school environment, meet the teachers and the Principal and participate in many of the activities that they will be involved in next year. The CONNECT Program began on Friday 27 July, 2018 and runs every Friday in Term 3 and 4. The program begins at 9.10am and will conclude at 11.00am. All 2019 Kindergarten students and parent/caregivers are to meet in the new hall. There is a flyer further into this Newsletter regarding our CONNECT Program.

Reconditioned Demountable – Our New Music Room (Reminder)

Our old Health Clinic, which has now been reconstructed into a demountable classroom was finished during the term break. The room is now functional with only data connections to be finalised. A mobile interactive whiteboard has been placed in the room for teacher/student use and Mr Domars is now using the area as a music room. Teachers are also discussing using the room for drama and group work tasks. Unfortunately, the installation of data to the demountable was not to my satisfaction and therefore I have requested the company return and re-install the cabling correctly and in a more appropriate setting. As stated in previous Newsletters, Richmond Public School’s student enrolments are increasing and the room may need to be utilised as a classroom in 2019. I’ll keep the community informed of class structures for 2019 and the future use of the new demountable.

iCodeNext – External Provider Technology is a focus area at Richmond Public School. The school has introduced coding through the use of Spheroes and is now investigating Bee Bots for our younger students. To enhance the learning opportunities at Richmond Public School, I have engaged an external company who can further extend the excellent programs we deliver at Richmond Public School. icodeNext is a company that will be providing technology lessons after school hours and possibly during the term break. iCodeNext has a sequence of programs that can continue over a number of years. Richmond High School Year 7- 2019 Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) – From Cliff Ralph – Principal

Following consultation with our school community and research into the benefits of utilising technology in teaching and learning Richmond High School will be introducing a program of BYOD with Year 7 in 2019. Teaching Staff have undergone extensive Professional Learning on how to utilise technology in their subject areas to enhance learning. In 2019 Year 7 students will be required to bring their own device to school each day so that they can utilise it in lessons to access, complete and organise their classwork. Staff have been given opportunities to establish their classes in Google Classroom which is part of a G Suite of Google applications made available to schools at no cost. Students will be provided with lessons early in 2019 on how to access the G Suite through their Department of Education Student Portal. In preparation for this Richmond High School will be working with the Richmond Learning Community Primary Schools to ensure parents and students are kept informed and have opportunities to ask questions regarding the program. The first information session will take place on Tuesday 21st, August in Term 3 commencing at 6 pm in the MAC. The BYOD that students will be required to bring will be any laptop that utilises Windows 10 or above as the operating system. The selection of the device will be at the discretion of the parent(s) of the student however Richmond High has provided suggested specifications through the School App. and on the School Website. Mr Cliff Ralph Principal

P&C News Organisation of our 90th Birthday Celebration is well underway. The P&C have booked a DJ – Andy of HeyDJ to run the disco. Our Father’s Day Stalls have been organised. However, we are seeking assistance on the day of the stalls and of the Fathers’ Day Breakfast. A note went home this week asking for helpers and to notify families of the dates of the stalls - Wednesday, 22 August – Fathers’ Day Stall #1 and Friday, 24 August – Fathers’ Day Stall #2. As was mentioned in the P&C section of the last Newsletter, our Father’s Day stalls and breakfast are two weeks before Fathers’ Day which is on Sunday 2 September, but due to the District Athletics Carnivals occurring on the Wednesday and Friday of the week before Fathers’ Day, the P&C have moved the stalls and the breakfast to a week earlier.
