a wide variety of topics which the students could choose from, including: ‘Playing together’, ‘Belonging’, ‘Multiculturalism in the media’, ‘Sport and multiculturalism’ and ‘Learning from the past’. Our teachers have been very impressed by the quality of the speeches that have been presented in classes over the past two weeks. We wish the students who are selected for the Stage Finals the best of luck as they progress to the next level of the competition.

Report Cards

Presently, teachers are working on the end of Semester One Report Cards. The Report Cards reflect the work that has been treated thus far into 2019 and this learning is stated in terms of outcomes. The Report Cards will also indicate your child’s level of achievement from ‘Experiencing Difficulties’ to ‘Working Beyond’. In Literacy and Numeracy, your child will receive an overall grade from A – E. A student achieving all outcomes will receive a ‘C’ grade and this should be celebrated within your homes. Report Cards are to go home on Wednesday 3 July, 2019. There are no Parent / Teacher Interviews in Term 2. However, if you have concerns regarding your child’s progress, please make an appointment with the classroom teacher through the office.

Feeding Families Friday (Reminder)

Thank you to the many families who continue to donate to our Feeding Families Friday Program which began last year. For our new families, this is an initiative started by our Student Representative Council who are supporting a local charity titled, ‘Hawkesbury Helping Hands’. This charity assists the homeless along with many families who are in desperate need of food items.

RPS Cross Country Carnival

On Tuesday, 9 April, Richmond Public School held its annual Cross Country Carnival. We would like to congratulate all of the students who participated on the day for their effort, perseverance and sportsmanship. We have included a full list of results in this fortnight’s newsletter. Ribbons were awarded to the first six athletes in each age group. These awards were presented at our first Primary Assembly for Term 2 (Hosted in Week 2). The 2019 Hawkesbury District Cross Country Carnival will be held on Friday, 24 May at Cattai National Park. Similar to our Swimming Carnival and Ball Games Carnival, students received house points for participating and bonus points for gaining a ribbon position. Congratulations to Yarrabee, who were the winning house for this carnival. We wish all students the best of luck as they begin preparing for our Athletics Carnival. Hawkesbury Show 2019

Last term, the Green Team helped raise three ducks for the Hawkesbury Show. We weighed and measured the ducks each week and watched them rapidly grow. The ducks were entered into the show in the School Duck Challenge and Water Fowl categories. We are very proud to announce that the mighty duck duo in the school challenge placed second and the famous ‘Lucky’ duck came first in the water fowl class.

Our Green Team visited the Hawkesbury Show to see the ducks on display. We were all surprised and proud to see that the ducks had ribbons on their cages. While we were at the show, we visited many pavilions and learnt a lot about agriculture and farming. We petted the small farm animals in the petting zoo. We also watched kelpies round up livestock, sheep being shorn and cows being milked. We even learnt how to make butter and cheese! The Green Team had a great day walking around the show grounds and learning new things. Congratulations to Richmond Public School! It was fantastic to see our ducks on display, along with the beautiful ‘My Favourite Transport’ themed artworks from our students and the wooden chickens that had been designed by each of our Stages. P&C News

Mother’s day for 2019 was another great success, thank you to all the volunteers who put their hand up to help out at the stall on both days, I greatly appreciate your help. To ALL the volunteers I had for the Mother’s Day Breakfast, thank you so much for coming early in the morning to help out. It was great to see dads running the BBQ service, and spoiling the well deserving mothers, grandmothers and aunts. The stalls were a sell-out, no gifts left and ready to start a fresh in 2020. Mother’s day saw a total of $4000.00 raised. Thank you for your continued support. Term 2 will see our Team Colours Mufti Day on Wednesday 5 June, so get your jerseys out and show your team support. A note will be sent out soon with more details. While the P&C are a little quiet with events this term, there is still so much happening within the school, so I encourage you to keep an eye out for things happening and support your children and the staff of Richmond Public School. I would like to extend an invitation to the school community to join P&C at our next meeting in the staffroom. P&C meetings are on Mondays 7-8pm (sharp), Week 4 and Week 8 of each term. The next meeting is

Monday, 20 May. Child minding is provided for those of you who have littles ones or don't have care for your children during the meeting. Thank you to the RPS staff who offer their personal time to stay back and help with this. Brooke P&C President Canteen News A very big thank you to our Term 1 student helpers. You all should be very proud of yourselves for doing such a wonderful job. Thanks to Mr Chia for arranging the student helpers too. Students who help in the canteen learn an important set of life skills including mathematics, customer service, listening skills, food handling and the importance of

turning up ‘to work on time’, just to name a few. It’s wonderful to see so many willing students keen to give up their lunch break and help within their community.
