CONTINUOUS IN-LINE MONITORING & PROCESS CONTROL
RHOSONICS – 25 YEARS
In April 1992 Rhosonics was founded by Mr.
Willem van Ballegoijen de Jong. Today, the
company is led by his son, Mr. Guus van
Ballegoijen de Jong. The employees at
Rhosonics proudly celebrated the company’s
25th anniversary at the newly opened premises
in Putten, the Netherlands in April 2017.
ISO9001 CERTIFICATION
After being initially certified in 2010 for ISO
9001:2008, the company processes were
audited and were found to also be in
compliance with ISO 9001:2015.
OUR CORE VALUES
We provide instruments for customers who
want to monitor their process and reach the
desired product quality and productivity.
Our team of experts is continuously looking
for improvements of existing products
through innovative measurement solutions.
We use craftmanship, capability and creativity
to create measurements beyond limits.
MEASURING BEYOND LIMITS
Our promise to our customers. Customers
will achieve the best measuring results when
using Rhosonics instruments. Beyond limits
stands for our ambition to create process
instrumentation with leading product
quality, robust designs, the most reliable
technology, the best measuring results and
beyond.
At Rhosonics, we believe that we can offer a
measurement solution for virtually all
process liquids in any industry.

TECHNOLOGY
All instruments of Rhosonics use ultrasonic
measuring technologies. Ultrasonic pulses
(approx.: 2.3 MHz) are created by a piezo
element located in the sensor tip. The piezo
element sends the ultrasonic pulses into the
medium and also receives all returning
signals. Then the signals are transferred to a
transmitter for further processing and
calculation of the measuring results.
The three ultrasonic parameters which are
measured are sound velocity, attenuation
and acoustic impedance.
All these parameters are influenced by
temperature. Therefore the temperature is
also measured in most of the applications,
for example by a Pt100 temperature probe.
The physical parameters are translated into
the measurement value by making use of
polynomials. These polynomials are unique
for every application and created by
Rhosonics. The final choice for one or
multiple physical parameters depends on
the specific application, fluid properties and
installation requirements.
DIFFERENT MEASUREMENTS
Acoustic impedance
The acoustic impedance is the reflection
of energy at the interface between the
sensor and the slurry or liquid. This is
used for density measurement and for
certain concentration applications.
Sound velocity
The sound velocity or speed of sound is
determined by measuring the time that
the ultrasonic signal is traveling over a
known distance. This distance can be
between the sensor tip and a reflector
plate or over the pipe diameter. The
sound velocity is used for the
measurement of a concentration.
Attenuation
Solids absorb ultrasonic energy. We
measure the loss of energy over a
particular distance, such as a pipe
diameter. Those losses are a value for
the amount of solids, expressed in wt%
or g/liter.
Combined sensor technology
The ultrasonic parameters mentioned
above are sometimes combined with a
conductivity measurement to measure
two components of a ternary liquid.
Our Technology
DENSITY METERS
Rhosonics Density Meters are used in the
mining, dredging, construction and energy
industries to measure the density of a
mineral slurry. Our newest product is the
Slurry Density Meter (SDM).
SOLIDS METERS
The Solids Meters can be used for many
industry applications, such as measurement
of solids in the food industry and measuring
solids in mineral slurries. The Model 9670
can be used for mineral applications.
PLATO / BRIX METERS
Plato Meters are used for product control in
various stages of the brewing process. The
Plato Meter F43 is the newest model. Brix
meters are used to measure the sugar
content of a process liquid in °Brix.
CONCENTRATION METERS
Concentration meters are used to accurately
measure one component of a chemical
solution, for example the concentration of
NaOH or H2SO4. Our model 8500 is usually
used for these kind of applications.

METERS FOR TERNARY LIQUIDS
Concentration Meters for ternary liquids can
measure two components of a (chemical)
liquid solution. The B31 is the newest model
and can for example be used for TMAH+PR
measurement in the flat panel industry.
COD METERS
COD Meters are used in the influent flow of
industrial wastewater treatment plants. The
model 9585 measures the COD value and
helps to protect against high COD peak loads
and allows further optimization of the WWTP.
