Surgical Rhinoplasty• Approaches for surgical Rhinoplasty can be classified as

– Open/ External– Closed/ Internal

• The purpose for these two vary depending on the nature, medical reasoning etc. for nasal reconstruction

• Internal Rhinoplasty involves making all incisions from inside the nasal cavity and does not include the cutting of columella*

• External Rhinoplasty technique involves a skin incision across the base of the nasal columella*

• This is regarded to be a complicated surgery

* Columella: The strip of skin separating the nostrils

Non – Surgical Rhinoplasty• A medical procedure in which injectable fillers are used to alter and

shape a person's nose without invasive surgery

• The procedure fills in depressed areas on the nose like – Lifting the angle of the nose tip – Smoothing the appearance of bumps on the bridge etc.

• These are used for minor corrections

Must know! • Rhinoplasty is among the most difficult of all cosmetic

surgeries

• It is a procedure that need only be performed once in a patient’s lifetime if carried out with surgical expertise and an aesthetic understanding

• The surgery generally lasts around a couple of hours and is performed under a general anesthetic

• A strong and well-proportioned nasal skeleton is the key to a successful surgery

• Rhinoplasty is more than just a cosmetic surgery as breathing disturbances due to distortion, swelling of the internal structures of the nose, etc. can be corrected through this
