Post Liberalization, India has made vast strides in the Oil and Gas sector. The same is evident from the

Government of India's effort of introduction of successive NELP programmes and setting up of

Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). India has already established itself as a

Refinery Hub. The swiftness of adopting technological innovations and introduction of novel

management concepts by Petroleum Sector in India is like never before. As they say "The times; they

are a-changing", this is the period when there are lot of structural and fundamental changes

happening in the energy sector, and the country will be facing huge dearth of skilled man-power in

the near future.

RGIPT is an initiative of Government of India, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and corporate

managed institute which was set up to answer this shortage of skilled personnel. RGIPT is co-

promoted as an energy domain specific institute by six leading Oil Public Sector Units (ONGC, IOCL,

OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in association with the Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB).

The curricula of RGIPT have been framed by the industry and field experts. It integrates petroleum

science & technology with managerial concepts. The institute has the distinction of having

experienced industrial as well as academic faculty members. Industrial faculty members share real

world experiences while academic faculty ensure sound theoretical concepts.

I believe the first batch of MBA from RGIPT has the right grooming and hope that these energetic

and creative students will become visionaries the country needs and will lead the way business will

be done in the coming years.

Wishing them a bright future,

R S Pandey Petroleum Secretary

(Ex Officio Chairman, General Council)

I am glad to write this message for our young and emerging students of management studies under

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh. RGIPT is an

institution set up to spawn a cadre of human resource who will acquire the necessary skills and

competencies to manage the key positions in various segments of the petroleum sector, and

covering the energy spectrum. The department produces MBAs in Petroleum and Energy

Management who possess unique traits, to not only serve the rapidly growing hydrocarbon industry

but also make a mark in the overall energy sector in India.

This is the right and most appropriate time for this programme, as it is a time when India is emerging

as one of the global leaders. In light of this fact it makes the issue of quenching its thirst for energy

even more important. One of the challenges that emerge with such rapid growth is the availability

of the right kind of trained personnel to professionally handle the growing Petroleum & Energy

sectors with global norms and standards.

We at RGIPT have designed our MBA programme to meet this requirement. Our rigorous admission

process ensures high quality, highly motivated students with excellent academic background, high

intellect and a desire to learn. I am convinced that the graduates of MBA (Petroleum and Energy

management) from this institute will meet the highest expectations of the business houses from the

country and abroad.

I wish to welcome international and national companies to visit our campus and test our graduates

for their competencies and give them an opportunity to showcase their skills.

RGIPT ProfileThe petroleum industry is a strategically important sector and is considered to be the backbone of

the global economy. The Government of India, recognizing the need for nurturing future talents to

service this vital sector of economy, has set up the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology

(RGIPT). The institute came into existence through an Act of Parliament and has been accorded the

status of an 'Institute of National Importance' along the lines of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

The institute, with the objective of adhering to the best standards, has adopted student admission

criteria for engineering undergraduate programmes through IIT-JEE and for MBA post graduate

programme based on the entrance examination JMET, as well as CAT and GMAT. The Institute is

empowered to award degrees in its own right.

The torchbearers churned out of RGIPT, aptly christened 'PETROCRATS', with the backing of six

leading power houses in Indian Petroleum Sector (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) and the

Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB), will be fully competent to handle the management and

technological challenges of the industry.
