GENERAL INFORMATION

Ceramic coaxial filters are designed with external and internalmetallization to make the cavity and the line of the resonator.

Frequency range is 300 to 4000MHz.

Filters are available under four types of packages dependingon the mountings and the connections (connectorized cases, half buried SMD cases or pick and place filters).

GENERAL INFORMATION

Resonant air cavity filters are manufacturedwith line or helicoid resonators with a theo-retical length of λ/4. Designs are integratinglow cost packages with a range of cavity sec-tions: 27 x 27, 35 x 35, 42 x 42, 50 x 50 and100 x 100 mm to improve Q-factor in the frequency bands from 30 to 2500MHz. Better features are achieved when increasingcavity Q-factor, for instance by increasingsection of cavity (reduction of insertion loss)or number of cavities (increasing attenua-tion). Filters can be optimized with additionalzeros reducing number of cavities when keeping this attenuation.

Tunable filters for customer field tuning are also available.

Standard and tunable filters are dedicated to the following applications:

• Private, public, trucked networks (P.M.R., 3RP)• Mobile• Base stations (for two ways radio)• Repeaters for cellular networks• Cellular communications (E-GSM, etc.)• DAB

Features

• Tunable filters are available (Note #3 in the following selection guide). Filters are delivered with factory adjusted frequencies - specified in the order, and the filters can be tuned by Customer with a network analyzer.

• Special attenuation adjustment can be made upon request.• Low insertion loss.• High out-of-band attenuation.

Notes

Dielectric filters are also available for space saving / low power applications.

Air cavity duplexers, made with two air cavity filters are described starting page 15.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Air Cavity duplexers are made with the assembly of two aircavity filters with matched cables to a common port (antenna).Resonant air cavity duplexers are manufactured with line orhelicoid resonators with a theoretical length of λ/4. Designsare integrating low cost packages with a range of cavity sec-tions: 27x27, 35x35, 42x42, 50x50 and 100x100 mm to improveQ-factor in the frequency bands from 30 to 2000MHz.

Better features are achieved when increasing cavity Q-factor,for instance by increasing section of cavity (reduction of in-sertion loss) or number of cavities (increasing attenuation).Duplexers can be optimized with additional zeros reducingnumber of cavities when keeping this attenuation.

Tunable duplexers for Customer field tuning and ceramic duplexers are also available.

Standard & tunable air cavity duplexers

They are dedicated to the following applications:

• Military & marine communications• Private, public, trucked networks (P.M.R., 3RP)• Mobile• Base stations (for two way radio)• Repeaters for cellular networks

Features

•Tunable duplexers are available (Note #3 in the following selection guide). Duplexers are deliveredwith factory adjusted frequencies - specified in the order, and the duplexers can be tuned byCustomer with a network analyzer.

• Special attenuation adjustment can be made upon request.• With these duplexers, transmitters can be connected on "High" or "Low" ports.

Cellular & satellite air cavity duplexers

They are specially designed for cellular networks.

Features

• Low insertion loss• High out-of-band attenuation• Space saving packages to be installed in micro base stations

Ceramic duplexers

Dielectric duplexers are also available for space saving / low power cellular applications.

REMOTE CONTROLLED TUNABLE FILTERSGENERAL INFORMATION

Tuning elements such as trimmers and trimmer capacitorsare used in filters and duplexers that should be tuned by theuser on the field to a dedicated frequency range.

The tuning elements have been coupled to stepper motorsin order to remote control their position. Stepper motors arecontrolled by a microprocessor with a memory of thepositions of the motors versus the requested frequenciesthrough a computer command. This assures thereproducibility and the accuracy of the position of the tuningelements and thus of the associated frequencies.

Chelton Telecom & Microwave designs and manufactures tunable reject filters operating in the microwavebands.

Following are the specification of a filter designed with a suspended board including printed res-onators which are tuned with tuning elements coupled with remote controlled motors.

• Frequency range: X-band• Narrow filter < 1% with 70dB attenuation• Less than 0.5dB insertion loss from "0" to 18GHz• Loss dispersion between several filters <0.5dB• Less than 2dB @ Fo ±2 x reject band• Suspended microstrip lines with 7 tunable cells with stepper motors• Frequency control of each cell• Temperature stability <15 ppm within military temperature range under severe

environmental conditions• Accuracy of the tuning < ±1MHz

(*) Filter is represented without stepper motors for easier understanding. Seven stepper motors aremounted vertically to electrically adjust the frequency of each cell.

Each motor is remote controlled by a PC board with a micro processor using DRAM memory for theposition versus frequency. Position detectors are included to check the good operation of each cell.

WIDE BAND UHF MULTICOUPLER 225MHz – 400MHz;4 WAYS 200 W

GENERAL INFORMATION

This multicoupler is made up of four coaxial cavity resonatorscoupled on a single antenna port. Each input port can accept upto 200W (no extra fan requested).A capacitor network at the open end of the cavity center con-ductor performs tuning. Capacitors are switched by PIN diodesto allow high tuning speed. A microprocessor controls PIN diode drivers and gives infor-mation on diode status (On/Off, temperature, etc). An isolator protects each port. All breakdowns are automatically detected.

Electrical specifications

• Frequency range: 225MHz – 400MHz• Number of inputs: 4• Maximum input power (on each port): 200W•Tuning speed: SATURN compatible•Tuning control interface: on request (RS232/RS485/…)• Input / Output impedance: 50 W• Loss: <3dB average• 3dB bandwidth: around 2% of center frequency• VSWR: < 1.5:1• Isolation between input port: >37dB (40dB typ) @ ±4% of center frequency • Operating temperature range: 10°C , +55°C

Mechanical specifications

• RF connector: N female• Operating temperature range: 10°C , +55°C• Size: 19’ x 7U rack• Weight: < 50 kg• Power supply: 220 V / 100 W (115 V / 45-400 Hz on request)
