1 Introduction to the Product

1.1 GTE Planetary Gearboxes

In combination with the drive and control system of BOSCH REXROTH,GTE planetary gearboxes provide a low-cost automation system forvarious sectors of industry.

They are well-suited for use with gear racks or toothed belts in handlingsystems with high speed and accelerations (e.g.: loader, robots).

The low-backlash between the honed planetary gears permits theexecution of exact positioning tasks. Furthermore, the gearboxes aresuited for S1-operation-typically required for application in the printingsector.

The GTE series of planetary gearboxes offers a coaxial input and output.The output shaft of the motor is connected to the sun gear with atorsionally-stiff compression coupling. The sun gear drives the planetarygears, which rotate within a ring gear internal gear. The planetary gears,of which there are three or four depending on the ratio, are fixed to theplanet carrier, which drives the output shaft. By dividing the load betweenthe planetary gears, a balanced force splitting occurs. This allows for avery compact gearbox with a high power density.

• Use under adverse environmental conditions is possible due to thecompletely-enclosed IP54 design.

• Safe and long-lasting seal guaranteed via sealed bearing.

• Hermetically-sealed housing

• Backlash-free torque transmission via the compression coupling

• Low backlash combined with high accuracy provided by honedplanetary gears

• High efficiency, low temperature and minimum power loss madepossible by using the smallest possible seal diameters.

• High emergency stop torque made possible by internal-transferredpower.

• Highly dynamic because of low-inertia design

• The high radial-load capability and tilt resistance makes it possible todirectly mount a pinion or pulley.

• The design of the output shaft with a solid shaft shoulder makes axialtightening of output elements simple.

• The gearbox can be mounted in any position. Due to the definedbearing position and the pump effect the bearings have on thelubrication, sufficient lubrication supply is always ensured.

• The output elements can be mounted in two different ways:

• A press-fit shaft-to-hub connection by means of a plain outputshaft, or

• connection by means of an output shaft with keyway

2 Important Instructions on Use

2.1 Appropriate Use

Bosch Rexroth products are designed and manufactured using the lateststate-of-the-art-technology. Before they are delivered, they are checkedfor an safety of operation.

The products may only be used as intended. If they are inappropriateused, situations may arise resulting in injuries to property and persons.

Note: For damage caused by products not being used as intended,Bosch Rexroth gives no warranty, assumes no liability, and willnot pay for any damages. Any risks resulting from the productsnot being used as intended are the sole responsibility of theuser.

Before using the Bosch Rexroth products, the following conditionprecedent must be fulfilled so as to ensure that they are used asintended:

• Anyone handling one of the products in any manner must read andunderstand the appropriate safety regulations and the intended use.

• Regarding hardware components, the products concerned must be leftin their original state, i.e. it is not permitted to modify it structurally.Software products may not be decompiled; their source codes may notbe altered.

• Damaged or faulty products may not be installed or put into operation.

• It must be ensured that the products are installed according to theregulations mentioned in the documentation.

Fields of Use and Application

Typical application ranges of the GTE planetary gearboxes are:

• Handling and Mounting systems,

• Packaging and Food-processing machines,

• Printing and Paper-processing machines and Machine tools

Controlling and monitoring of the motor/-gearbox combination may requireconnection of additional sensors and actuators.

Note: The gearboxes may only be used with the accessoriesspecified in the documentation. Components which are notexpressly named may neither be mounted nor connected. Thesame applies to cables.

The motors may be operated only in the expressly specifiedcomponent configurations and combinations and with thesoftware and firmware specified in the appropriate functionaldescription.

Any drive controller must be programmed before startup, in order toensure that the motor executes the functions specific to the particularapplication.

The gearboxes may only be operated under the assembly, mounting andinstallation conditions, in the normal position, and under theenvironmental conditions (temperature, degree of protection, humidity,EMC, and the like) specified in this documentation.

2.2 Inappropriate Use

Any use of the planetary gearboxes outside of the fields of applicationmentioned above or under operating conditions and technical data otherthan those specified in this documentation is considered to be“inappropriate use”.

Planetary gearboxes may not be used if . . .

• they are subjected to operating conditions which do not comply withthe ambient conditions described above (e.g. operation under water,under extreme temperature fluctuations or extreme maximumtemperatures is not permitted),

• the intended application is not explicitly released by Bosch Rexroth.Please be absolutely sure to also observe the statements made in thegeneral safety notes.

3 Safety Instructions for Electric Drives and Controls

3.1 Introduction

Read these instructions before the initial startup of the equipment in orderto eliminate the risk of bodily harm or material damage. Follow thesesafety instructions at all times.

Do not attempt to install or start up this equipment without first reading alldocumentation provided with the product. Read and understand thesesafety instructions and all user documentation of the equipment prior toworking with the equipment at any time. If you do not have the userdocumentation for your equipment, contact your local Bosch Rexrothrepresentative to send this documentation immediately to the person orpersons responsible for the safe operation of this equipment.

If the equipment is resold, rented or transferred or passed on to others,then these safety instructions must be delivered with the equipment.

WARNING

Improper use of this equipment, failure to followthe safety instructions in this document ortampering with the product, including disablingof safety devices, may result in materialdamage, bodily harm, electric shock or evendeath!

3.2 Explanations

The safety instructions describe the following degrees of hazardseriousness in compliance with ANSI Z535. The degree of hazardseriousness informs about the consequences resulting from non-compliance with the safety instructions.

3.4 General Information

• Bosch Rexroth AG is not liable for damages resulting from failure toobserve the warnings provided in this documentation.

• Read the operating, maintenance and safety instructions in yourlanguage before starting up the machine. If you find that you cannotcompletely understand the documentation for your product, please askyour supplier to clarify.

• Proper and correct transport, storage, assembly and installation aswell as care in operation and maintenance are prerequisites foroptimal and safe operation of this equipment.

• Only persons who are trained and qualified for the use and operationof the equipment may work on this equipment or within its proximity.

• The persons are qualified if they have sufficient knowledge of theassembly, installation and operation of the equipment as well as anunderstanding of all warnings and precautionary measures noted inthese instructions.

• Furthermore, they must be trained, instructed and qualified toswitch electrical circuits and equipment on and off in accordancewith technical safety regulations, to ground them and to mark themaccording to the requirements of safe work practices. They musthave adequate safety equipment and be trained in first aid.

• Only use spare parts and accessories approved by the manufacturer.

• Follow all safety regulations and requirements for the specificapplication as practiced in the country of use.

• The equipment is designed for installation in industrial machinery.

• The ambient conditions given in the product documentation must beobserved.

• Use only safety features and applications that are clearly and explicitlyapproved in the Project Planning Manual. If this is not the case, theyare excluded.The following areas of use and application, for example, include safetyfeatures and applications: construction cranes, elevators used forpeople or freight, devices and vehicles to transport people, medicalapplications, refinery plants, transport of hazardous goods, nuclearapplications, applications in which electrical devices with vital functionscan be electromagnetically disturbed, mining, food processing, controlof protection equipment (also in a machine).

• The information given in the documentation of the product with regardto the use of the delivered components contains only examples ofapplications and suggestions.The machine and installation manufacturer must

• make sure that the delivered components are suited for hisindividual application and check the information given in thisdocumentation with regard to the use of the components,

• make sure that his application complies with the applicable safetyregulations and standards and carry out the required measures,modifications and complements.

• Startup of the delivered components is only permitted once it is surethat the machine or installation in which they are installed complieswith the national regulations, safety specifications and standards of theapplication.

• Operation is only permitted if the national EMC regulations for theapplication are met.The instructions for installation in accordance with EMC requirementscan be found in the documentation "EMC in Drive and ControlSystems".The machine or installation manufacturer is responsible forcompliance with the limiting values as prescribed in the nationalregulations.

• Technical data, connections and operational conditions are specified inthe product documentation and must be followed at all times.

3.5 Protection Against Contact with Electrical Parts

Note: This section refers to equipment and drive components withvoltages above 50 Volts.

Touching live parts with voltages of 50 Volts and more with bare hands orconductive tools or touching ungrounded housings can be dangerous andcause electric shock. In order to operate electrical equipment, certainparts must unavoidably have dangerous voltages applied to them.

DANGER

High electrical voltage! Danger to life, severebodily harm by electric shock!⇒ Only those trained and qualified to work with or on

electrical equipment are permitted to operate, maintainor repair this equipment.

⇒ Follow general construction and safety regulations whenworking on high voltage installations.

⇒ Before switching on power the ground wire must bepermanently connected to all electrical units accordingto the connection diagram.

⇒ Do not operate electrical equipment at any time, evenfor brief measurements or tests, if the ground wire is notpermanently connected to the points of the componentsprovided for this purpose.

⇒ Before working with electrical parts with voltage higherthan 50 V, the equipment must be disconnected fromthe mains voltage or power supply. Make sure theequipment cannot be switched on again unintended.

⇒ The following should be observed with electrical driveand filter components:

⇒ Wait thirty (30) minutes after switching off power toallow capacitors to discharge before beginning to work.Measure the voltage on the capacitors before beginningto work to make sure that the equipment is safe totouch.

⇒ Never touch the electrical connection points of acomponent while power is turned on.

⇒ Install the covers and guards provided with theequipment properly before switching the equipment on.Prevent contact with live parts at any time.

⇒ A residual-current-operated protective device (RCD)must not be used on electric drives! Indirect contactmust be prevented by other means, for example, by anovercurrent protective device.

⇒ Electrical components with exposed live parts anduncovered high voltage terminals must be installed in aprotective housing, for example, in a control cabinet.

3.6 Protection Against Electric Shock by Protective LowVoltage (PELV)

3.7 Protection Against Dangerous Movements

Dangerous movements can be caused by faulty control of the connectedmotors. Some common examples are:

• improper or wrong wiring of cable connections

• incorrect operation of the equipment components

• wrong input of parameters before operation

• malfunction of sensors, encoders and monitoring devices

• defective components

• software or firmware errors

Dangerous movements can occur immediately after equipment isswitched on or even after an unspecified time of trouble-free operation.

The monitoring in the drive components will normally be sufficient to avoidfaulty operation in the connected drives. Regarding personal safety,especially the danger of bodily injury and material damage, this alonecannot be relied upon to ensure complete safety. Until the integratedmonitoring functions become effective, it must be assumed in any casethat faulty drive movements will occur. The extent of faulty drivemovements depends upon the type of control and the state of operation.

- use safety fences

- use protective coverings

- install light curtains or light barriers

⇒ Fences and coverings must be strong enough toresist maximum possible momentum, especially ifthere is a possibility of loose parts flying off.

⇒ Mount the emergency stop switch in the immediatereach of the operator. Verify that the emergency stopworks before startup. Don’t operate the machine if theemergency stop is not working.

⇒ Isolate the drive power connection by means of anemergency stop circuit or use a starting lockout toprevent unintentional start.

⇒ Make sure that the drives are brought to a safestandstill before accessing or entering the dangerzone. Safe standstill can be achieved by switching offthe power supply contactor or by safe mechanicallocking of moving parts.

⇒ Secure vertical axes against falling or dropping afterswitching off the motor power by, for example:

- mechanically securing the vertical axes

- adding an external braking/ arrester/ clampingmechanism

- ensuring sufficient equilibration of the vertical axes

The standard equipment motor brake or an externalbrake controlled directly by the drive controller arenot sufficient to guarantee personal safety!

⇒ Disconnect electrical power to the equipment using amaster switch and secure the switch againstreconnection for:

- maintenance and repair work

- cleaning of equipment

- long periods of discontinued equipment use

⇒ Prevent the operation of high-frequency, remotecontrol and radio equipment near electronics circuitsand supply leads. If the use of such equipment cannotbe avoided, verify the system and the installation forpossible malfunctions in all possible positions ofnormal use before initial startup. If necessary, performa special electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test onthe installation.

3.8 Protection Against Magnetic and Electromagnetic FieldsDuring Operation and Mounting

Magnetic and electromagnetic fields generated near current-carryingconductors and permanent magnets in motors represent a serious healthhazard to persons with heart pacemakers, metal implants and hearingaids.

WARNING

Health hazard for persons with heartpacemakers, metal implants and hearing aids inproximity to electrical equipment!⇒ Persons with heart pacemakers, hearing aids and

metal implants are not permitted to enter the followingareas:

- Areas in which electrical equipment and parts aremounted, being operated or started up.

- Areas in which parts of motors with permanentmagnets are being stored, operated, repaired ormounted.

⇒ If it is necessary for a person with a heart pacemakerto enter such an area, then a doctor must beconsulted prior to doing so. Heart pacemakers thatare already implanted or will be implanted in thefuture, have a considerable variation in their electricalnoise immunity. Therefore there are no rules withgeneral validity.

⇒ Persons with hearing aids, metal implants or metalpieces must consult a doctor before they enter theareas described above. Otherwise, health hazards willoccur.

3.11 Battery Safety

Batteries contain reactive chemicals in a solid housing. Inappropriatehandling may result in injuries or material damage.

heating or other methods (danger of explosion andcauterization).

⇒ Never charge non-chargeable batteries (danger ofleakage and explosion).

⇒ Never throw batteries into a fire.⇒ Do not dismantle batteries.⇒ Do not damage electrical components installed in the

equipment.

Note: Be aware of environmental protection and disposal! Thebatteries contained in the product should be considered ashazardous material for land, air and sea transport in the senseof the legal requirements (danger of explosion). Disposebatteries separately from other waste. Observe the legalrequirements in the country of installation.

3.12 Protection Against Pressurized Systems

Certain motors and drive controllers, corresponding to the information inthe respective Project Planning Manual, must be provided withpressurized media, such as compressed air, hydraulic oil, cooling fluidand cooling lubricant supplied by external systems. Incorrect handling ofthe supply and connections of pressurized systems can lead to injuries oraccidents. In these cases, improper handling of external supply systems,supply lines or connections can cause injuries or material damage.

CAUTION

Danger of injury by incorrect handling ofpressurized systems !⇒ Do not attempt to disassemble, to open or to cut a

pressurized system (danger of explosion).⇒ Observe the operation instructions of the respective

manufacturer.⇒ Before disassembling pressurized systems, release

glasses, safety shoes and safety gloves)⇒ Remove any fluid that has leaked out onto the floor

immediately.

4.1 Dimensioning

Applications for GTE planetary gearboxes are characterized by thefollowing curves.

• Triangular speed curve with pause interval

• Operation with constant speed and pause interval

• Operation with trapezoidal speed curve and pause interval

• Continuous operation without pause interval (S1)

The speed-time curves define the dimension criteria.

4.2 Selection

The selection of the suitable motor/-gearbox combination, operating witha drive control device, has to be done via the following drive-determinedsizes:

• Frictional torque

• Starting torque

• Processing torque

• Accelerating torque

• Effective speed

• Necessary speed

• ON time

The motor-gearbox combination must fulfill the following conditions:

• The necessary speed must be reached.

• The continuous torque rating of the motor-gearbox combination has tobe higher than the effective load torque.

• The intermittent torque has to be higher than the sum of the frictional,starting and processing torque.

• The maximum torque has to be higher than the sum of frictional,weight and processing torque.

• The required acceleration time has to be within the limit of the relevantdrive selection lists.

• The thermal use-limit of the motor-gearbox combination must beadhered.

• The cycles of the operation modes S4 and S5 should not exceed1,000 cycles per hour. If higher cycle rates are necessary, the GTEgearbox must be derated accordingly (see Fig. 5-3).

Note: It must be ensured that

• the maximum load torque is smaller than the maximuminput torque of the gearbox.

• the maximum load speed does not require the motor tooperate above the maximum permissible input speed of thegearbox.

5.1 Operating Conditions

According to DIN EN 60529-1:2000-09, the AC motor with mountedplanetary gearbox GTE is protected by the housing against

• contact of parts under load or moving parts

• penetration of firm foreign bodies and water

When GTE gearboxes are mounted to Bosch Rexroth AC servo motors,IP 54 is valid.

• for the housing of motor and gearbox

• for the output shaft of the gearbox

• for the power and encoder connection on the motor at professionalmounting.

The first reference number defines the degree of protection againstcontact and penetration of foreign bodies. The reference number 5 means

• Complete contact protection

• Protection against interior injurious dust deposits

The second reference number defines the degree of protection againstwater. The reference number 4 means

• Protection against splashed water from all directions

The gearboxes are surface-protected by the Citrox-method. The Citrox-method is an environmentally-sound, thermo-chemically diffusion-method,whereby wear behavior, corrosion-resistance and fatigue resistance of thegearbox housing are improved.

The output shaft of the planetary gearboxes is available in the followingvariants:

• Smooth output shaft

For a plain non-positive shaft-hub connection.

This type of output assures a smoother operation and a backlash-freeconnection between shaft and hub.

Note: We recommend to use output shafts with non-positive shaft-hub connections.

or

• Output shaft with keyway according to DIN 6885-1:1968-08

For a keyed shaft-hub connection.

A keyed shaft is suitable for non-demanding, constant-directionapplications. This mode necessitates an additional axial connection.Therefore, the end of the gearbox output shaft is provided with a threadedcentering hole (see dimension sheet).

When checking the shaft load, the axial and radial shaft loads haveto be calculated separately:

Calculate the radial shaft load with regards to

• the point of application of force and

• the average speed

from the diagrams of chapter 6.3 “Permittable shaft load”. An L10 life of30,000 hours was used as a basis for the bearing life (bearing calculationaccording to DIN ISO 281:1993-01).

The axial shaft load is also described in the chapter 6.3 “Permittableshaft load”.

The output shaft of the GTE-gearboxes is fitted with a solid shaftshoulder, which is well-suited for the support of axial forces, especiallywhen using keyed connections.

9 Handling, Transport and Storage

9.1 Handling

Identifying the GoodsThe total scope of a delivery can be seen in the delivery note or waybill.However, the contents of a delivery can be distributed over severalpackages.

Each motor package is provided with a bar code label providing thefollowing data:

• Type designation

• Customer

• Delivery note number

• Consignment

The bar code label is provided for identification of the contents duringprocessing of the order.

Name PlatesThe gearbox is delivered with a name plate. The name plate is attachedto the gearbox-housing.

The motor is delivered with its own separate name plate. This label isattached to the motor housing. In addition, a second name plate isattached using two-side tape onto the original motor name plate. Thesecond can be put where visible on the machine, if the original nameplate on the motor be concealed by parts of the machine.

Because of different national regulations, different type plates are used formotors according to EN and UL-standards. The differences are shown inthe following picture.

9.2 Transport and Storage

CAUTION

Damage or injuries and invalidation of thewarranty due to improper handling!⇒ Avoid mechanical stressing, throwing, tipping or

dropping of the products.⇒ Use only suitable tackles.⇒ Never lift the motor out of the optional fan housing.⇒ Use suitable protective equipment and protective

clothing during transport.⇒ Protect the products from dampness and corrosion.

Also observe the notes regarding storage and transport on the packages.

The gearboxes are typically supplied in recyclable cardboard boxes withcarton for shaped elements.

It is recommended to store the gearboxes in their original packaging in ahorizontal position until the are ready for use. The permissibletemperature range for short-term storage or transport is –20°C up to+80°C.

For long-term storage, it is recommended to store the gearboxes in a dryenvironment with temperatures from 0°C to +30°C. The gearboxes can bestored, under these conditions, over a period of maximum 2 years .

Avoid direct solar radiation, UV light and ozone because it leads todeterioration of the sealants.

We recommend using a FIFO system - “First-in, first-out”.

Note: Remove all the anticorrosive on the gearboxes beforemounting them.

The GTE gearboxes are filled-for-life with lubrication and are ready foruse. The input and output are treated with anticorrosive coating.

CAUTION

Damage⇒ Do not proceed cleaning via air pressure! The

danger consists that overpressure within the gearboxcan occur, which negatively influences the functionand lifetime of the gearbox.

The following conditions must be kept during transport and handling:

• Use the appropriate means for transport. Take the weight of thecomponents into consideration (weights are specified in theappropriate “Technical Data” chapters of the various motors andgearboxes and/or on the type label of the motor).

• Transport the motor-gearbox combination only in the horizontalposition.

• To lift the motor-gearbox combinations use a crane and lifting slingbelts

• Avoid damage to the motor flange and drive shaft.

• Avoid impacts on the gearbox drive shaft.

• Remove the protective cover on the gearbox output shaft just beforemounting.

WARNING

Damage to motor and loss of warranty possible!⇒ Any improper storage may cause damage to the

motor. In addition, any warranty claim will expire.

The following conditions must be kept during storage:

• Permissible range of temperature: -20°C to +80°C (only valid forshort-term storage or transport. For a long-term storage please keepa temperature range of 0°C to +30°C.)

• Store motors in dry places; free from dust and vibrations.

• Store motors horizontally.

• Do not remove the plastic protective sleeve on the output shaft. Itprotects the shaft from moisture, rust and mechanical damage.

10 Assembly

10.1 Skilled Personnel

Any work on the system, on the drives or on the planetary gearboxes or intheir vicinity may only be carried out by properly skilled personnel. Theowner of the system must ensure that all persons carrying out

• installation work,

• maintenance, or

• operational activities

on the system are adequately familiar with the contents of thisdocumentation as well as with all warnings and precautionary measurescontained therein. Qualified skilled personnel are defined as those whohave been trained, instructed or are authorized to activate and deactivate,ground and mark electric circuits and equipment according to thetechnical safety regulations. Qualified skilled personnel must possessappropriate safety equipment and have been trained in first aid.

10.2 Mounting on the Motor

The motor is centered by using pilot diameter of the Bosch Rexroth motorand the appropriate pilot diameter of the gearbox´s input flange. Theconnection between the motor output shaft and gearbox input shaft isestablished via a compression coupling. The compression couplings arematched to the corresponding motor shaft diameters when necessary byusing a slotted bushing. The innovative clamping connection of the GTEgearboxes allows for high precision during mounting. The clamping forceis the result of several closed slots, whereby a precise cylindricalclamping can be reached. The position of clamping ring, bushing andmotor shaft is irrelevant for assembly.

Before mounting servo motors to the gearboxes, all parts have to bechecked closely for damage. All parts should slide easily and without anyforce into one another. Damage to the motor drive shaft or to thecompression coupling of the gearbox can prevent this and must beavoided.

Note: Every warranty claim expires, if adapter parts are removed oraltered.

Damage to or contamination on the motor front flange face or on thegearbox flange face can lead to angular misalignment of the motor driveshaft and the gearbox. This can lead to stress on the connection and willhave a negative influence on the noise and life time of the motor and/orthe gearbox.

The ordered gearboxes are provided with the proper adapter partsnecessary for the stipulated motor type according to the type code.Adapter parts makes it possible for the gearboxes to be mounted onevery Bosch Rexroth servo motor listed in the type code.

10.2.2 Mounting Procedure

If the gearbox and motor have been checked on their quality, the followingassembly procedure is recommended.

1. Clean and check the parts. Check for damage to the motor shaft,compression coupling bore and any bushing, as well as the faces ofmotor and gearbox flanges and clean them free from greasethoroughly. Do not clean the parts with compressed air. Avoid usingaggressive detergents, which could damage the seals.

2. Remove cap screws. Remove the cover screws from the gearboxconnection flange, which covers the access to the clamping screw.Turn the compression coupling so that the heads of the clampingscrews line up with the tapped holes, which have now been opened inthe gearbox`s adapter plate.

3. Connect the motor to the gearbox. Insert the motor shaft into thegearbox coupling until the gearbox´s connecting flange and the motorface are fully in contact. It should be possible to accomplish thiswithout excessive force. The gearbox is equipped with an integratedthermal length compensation to compensate for the thermalexpansion of the motor shaft. This compensates the linear extensionof the motor drive shaft at temperature rise. When joining the partstogether can only be done with high power, high forces occur on theclamping hubs or the motor bearing, which lead to damage on themotor and / or the gearbox.

CAUTION

To negate the weight of the motor and/or the gearboxitself, we recommend to perform this mounting in thevertical axis.

4. Connect the motor to the gearbox. To assure a proper connection,tighten all fastening bolts with the correct tightening torque acc. toDIN standard using the crossover pattern.

5. Reinsert the cap screws. The cap screws must be replaced andtightened with the specified torque. To ensure an IP54 sealed drive-system, the cap screws (as described in step 2) have to be re-tightened.

10.3 Gearbox Mounting

Remove the protective cap from the gearbox shaft and thoroughly cleanthe pilot diameter, the contact surface and the output shaft.

Furthermore, the fits and contact surfaces have to be undamaged andclean. They must be in exact position to the connecting shafts to avoidharmful loads due to offset of bearings, shafts and housings.

Mounting of the gearbox to the machine (or robot, etc.) is to be made viathe output pilot diameter of the gearbox and four through holes on thegearbox housing.

We recommend using ISO 12.9-grade bolts with the proper tighteningtorques. We also recommend securing the bolts with Loctite.

Assure a non-distorted mount when installing the gearbox. Attachedparts, e.g. gears or toothed lock washers, have to be mounted on theoutput shaft nonviolently. In no case should a hammer be used. Use onlyappropriate tools and fixtures.

CAUTION

To avoid a heat accumulation and therewith an over-temperature within the drive-system (gearbox + motor),make sure that during operation an unhinderedcirculation of air exists.

11 Startup, Operation and Maintenance

11.1 Startup

The following commission notes refer to the GTE planetary gearboxes aspart of a drive-system with motor, drive and control unit.

Preparation1. Keep the documentation of all used products ready.

2. Log all measures taken in the commissioning log.

3. Check the products for damage.

4. Check all mechanical and electrical connections.

5. Activate the safety and monitoring equipment of the system.

CAUTION

Material damage due to errors in trigger motors andmoving elements! Unclear operating states andproduct data!

⇒ Do not carry out commissioning if connections,operating states or product data are unclear or faulty!

⇒ Do not carry out commissioning if the safety andmonitoring equipment of the system is damaged ornot in operation.

⇒ Damaged products must not be put into operation.⇒ Contact Bosch Rexroth for missing information or

support during commissioning!

ExecutionWhen all conditions have been fulfilled, proceed as follows:

1. Commission the device controllers and power supplies according tothe corresponding descriptions. Note the respective productdocumentation.

2. Before releasing the setpoint, check whether the set relationship ofthe maximum motor speed and the present setpoint corresponds tothe specifications for the machine.

3. At a low turning speed, check whether the rotation direction of thegearbox and the polarity setpoint correspond to the specifications forthe machine.

4. At a low turning speed, check whether the positioning commands ofthe control systems are executed correctly.

5. Log all measures taken in the commissioning log.

When all steps have been executed correctly, commissioning of thegearbox is complete.

Commissioning of motors, drive controllers and the control mayrequire additional steps. The inspection of the functioning andperformance of the systems is not part of the commissioning of thegearbox; instead, it is carried out within the framework of thecommissioning of the machine as a whole. Observe the information andregulations of the machine manufacturer.

11.2 Deactivation

In the case of malfunctions, maintenance measures or to deactivate thegearbox-motor unit, proceed as follows:

1. Observe the instructions of the machine documentation.

2. Use the machine-side control commands to bring the drive to acontrolled standstill.

3. Switch off the power and control voltage of the drive device.

4. Switch off the motor protection switch for the motor fan.

5. Switch off the main switch of the machine.

6. Secure the machine against accidental movements and againstunauthorized operation.

7. Wait for the discharge time of the electrical systems to expire andthen disconnect all electrical connections.

8. Before dismantling, secure the gearbox-motor unit and supply cablesagainst falling or movements before disconnecting the mechanicalconnections.

9. Document all done measures in the start-up report and machinemaintenance plan.

11.3 Dismantling

DANGER

Fatal injury due to errors in trigger motors andmoving elements!⇒ Do not work on unsecured and operating machines.⇒ Secure the machine against accidental movements

and against unauthorized operation.⇒ Before dismantling, secure the gearbox-motor unit

and supply cables against falling or movementsbefore disconnecting the mechanical connections.

1. Observe the instructions of the machine documentation.

2. Please heed the safety notes and carry out all steps as described inthe anterior instructions in the chapter “11.2 Deactivation”.

3. Remove the gearbox-motor unit from the machine and store the unitproperly.

4. Document all done measures in the start-up report and machinemaintenance plan.

Planetary gearboxes of GTE series operate without deterioration withinthe given operating conditions. However, operation under unfavorableconditions can lead to limitations in availability.

• Observe the information of the machine manufacturer in the machinemaintenance plan.

• Log all maintenance measures in the machine maintenance plan.
