Introduction I would like to share my knowledge and experience on the use of Autodesk Revit architecture
software. I was trained by a certified Autodesk trainer and have gained years of experience in the use of
Revit architecture. This book will consist of the basic procedures to undergo before starting your 3D
drawing. Wishing you all the best in the use of Revit architecture.

Creating a new file - Open revit architecture
- Click on new under project
- Click OK under new project dialog box
- Click metric under undefined system of measurement dialog box
You have created a new Revit file

Creating your elevation views How to bring in the elevation views
- Click on view menu bar
- Click on elevation
- Drop four elevation as shown below
- Rotate the elevations letting the line on the circle point to the direction you want to see
To rotate elevation views
- Click on the view you want to rotate
- Click on the rotate icon in the modify tool category

- Click above the view then click the perpendicular right of the view to turn the view to face up
Front view

- Click and rotate the left and back view accordingly
- The result would look like the diagram below
Naming the created elevation views
- Click on the front elevation
- Notice the name of the elevation e.g. Elevation 1
- Go to the project browser – the bottom pane on the left of the interface
- Double click on Views (all)
- Under views (all) double click on elevations
- Locate that elevation e.g. Elevation 1
- Right click on the elevation
- Click on rename

- Give it the name front elevation
- Click OK
Follow the same procedure for naming the other elevation views

You have created elevation views for your project
Saving your project - Click the save icon on your title bar
- Choose where to save it in
- Give it a file name e.g revit 3d
- Click save
You have now saved your project

Creating a new wall - Click wall in architecture menu
To draw a sample wall on your project
- Click a start point
- Click an end point
- Press escape on your keyboard
- Press escape again on your keyboard
You have drawn a wall
To change the wall size from default 200 to 230mm
- Click the wall
- On the properties pane located on the top left side of the interface click edit type

- Click duplicate on the type propertied dialog box
- Type wall 230 as the name on the name dialog box
- Click OK
- Click edit under the value column of type parameters

- Change 200 to 230 under the thickness collumn
- Click ok
- Click OK on the type properties dialog box

Adjusting the elevation views to capture drawn wall - Click the line on any elevation view
- Click and drag the arrow past the wall

- Repeat for other elevation views
You have adjusted the elevation views to capture the drawn wall
Creating levels - Double click on any elevation view on the project browser pane located on the bottom left of
the interface e.g. front elevation

- Click architecture main menu
- Click level on datum sub menu
- Click and draw a line 3000mm above the default level (level 1) line on the screen
- It would look like the diagram below
- Press escape on your keyboard
- Press escape again
You have just created a new level
To give the new level a name

- Click the new level you have just drawn
- On the property pane at the top left portion of your interface highlight level 2 on the name row
under identity
- With your mouse still on the property pane type wall level
- Click on apply
- Click yes on the revit dialog box
You have given the new level a name
