We are looking to hire some additional Lunchroom
Supervisors While we realize that many of you are unable to
commit to a full-time lunchroom supervisor position we are
currently looking to hire some additional supply lunchroom
supervisors You would only work on an as needed basis
and you would only be contacted once we are aware of an
absence
It is always great if we have a few parents or guardians on our
list who we are able to call upon especially when we only
receive short notice If you know of anyone in the community
who doesnrsquot have children here and you think might be a good
fit please pass this information along to them as well
The process involves an interview with the principal reference
checks and the completion of a separate Criminal Record
Check (not the one we use for volunteering) The final step is
setting you up as an employee of the school board The
process takes approximately two weeks
You would be contributing to our school in a positive way as
our lunchroom supervisors make it possible for students to
enjoy eating lunch at school and having some time to play
during the lunch hour If you think you might be able to help
us out please contact the school office to get the process
started
Thank you in advance for your consideration
At Kenollie PS we are all about student success A large part
of that success is due to the incredible amount of volunteer
support that we receive here Should you wish to volunteer at
Kenollie think about the type of support you would like to
offer We need help in our library in classrooms on field trips
and with our Kiss amp Ride program If you would like to
volunteer in your childrsquos classroom times will be dependent
upon individual teachers Classrooms are busy places of
learning and there are certain experiences that lend themselves
more appropriately to additional support Please be aware that
if you are volunteering in a public school you require an
approved Criminal Record Check completed by Peel Regional
Police If you do not have a Criminal Record Check on file
please contact the school office to set up an appointment to
begin the process
Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers
When parents are dropping off items for their child
(ren) please come directly to the office We ask
that you do not go to your childrsquos classroom as this
can be disruptive when classes are in session There
is a lunch drop off bin outside the main door please
ensure your childrsquos name is on it

At the Peel District School Board student absence reporting
for all elementary aged students is done through our School
Messenger SafeArrival Absence Reporting System Please
report your childrsquos absences and late arrivals prior to 900 am
by one of the following methods
Call 1-855-209-6155
Online at httpsgoschoolmessengercom
Download the School Messenger app (the BLUE app not
the gold one) mdash free from Apple or Google Play
If we do not receive notification prior to the start of the school
day parents will receive an automated call regarding their
childrsquos absence For absences longer than 5 consecutive school
days please contact the school office For extended absences
(ie family vacations) please provide a letter in advance for
the office
Included in the first day handout you were required to confirm
whether or not your child will be going home or remaining at
school during the nutrition breaks If your child will be going
home please meet himher by the main doors by the office
All students heading home during NBrsquos must exit via the main
door by the office only Please discuss your pickup
arrangements with your child prior to the school day
Students staying at school will eat in assigned classrooms and
are given approximately 20 minutes to eat For the remaining
20 minutes of the nutrition break students are outside enjoying
fresh air and exercise It is important that students dress for the
weather
The dismissal bell rings at 320 pm Parents and caregivers
are invited to pick up children outside at the exit doors located
on our playground area or in the Kiss amp Ride area located just
as you enter the school yard from Glenwood Dr For the safety
of all children we ask that adults wait outside at a designated
spot for your children Students should not remain in the
schoolyard unsupervised after school and should head directly
home All students should be picked up or have left the school
grounds by 340 pm unless being supervised by a parent or
guardian
To familiarize staff and students with building evacuation
procedures fire drills will be held six times throughout the year
(three times in the Fall and three times in the Spring) School
lockdown procedures will also be practiced twice during the
year (once in September and once in February)
We would like to ask in lieu of sending treats such as cake and
doughnuts for student birthdays that families donate a book to
their childs classroom which in turn will then be placed in our
school library We have created book plates that would go in
the front of the book with the childs name and occasion for
that donation At the end of the school year these birthday
books would be donated to the library in a special birthday
bin If you would like to send in small things for the students
in the class fancy pencils or erasers are always fun to share
We recognize all of our students with birthday wishes over the
announcements and special pencils By asking that food not
be sent in we are helping to create a safe environment for all
of our students especially for those with food allergies
Thank you for considering a book donation instead of treats for
the class
If your child requires medication to be taken at school please
obtain a form from the office and have it completed by your
doctor These forms are required to administer any medicine
and are kept on file in the office The names of any students
with severe allergies asthma or other serious health conditions
should be brought to the attention of the classroom teacher and
the office staff A picture of your child will be posted in the
health room to inform all staff in case they may need to
respond to an emergency
Please provide two epipens One will be carriedworn by
the student and the other will be kept in the main office (Epipen waist belts are available in the office no charge)
Kenollie PS continues to be a Nut Awareness
Zone Students parents and staff are requested not to bring
food or snacks containing peanuts or nut traces to school We
have many students who are highly allergic to nut products
Thank you for working with us to maintain a safe environment
for all students
In an effort to reduce office traffic we will continue to use a
lunch drop off bin This bin will be located just outside of the
main office doors Please ensure that your childrsquos name is
visible on the lunch bag Students will collect their lunches
when the first nutrition break begins at 1040 am We
continue to encourage all families to send students
to school with their lunches in the morning

Keeping lunches and snacks peanut-free Anaphylaxis is a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that affects some children We ask that you help us take care of these students by sending lunches and snacks for your child that are free from peanuts or nuts because these foods are the leading cause of anaphylaxis Please read the label of any food you plan to send to school with your child If the label says May contain nuts or peanuts please do not send it to school You can get a complete copy of the Peel boards anaphylaxis guideline at wwwpeelschoolsorg under the Parent tab under Student Health
Coping with Back-to-School Anxiety Anxious feelings are normal and expected in children and teens returning to school Your anxious child may cling cry have temper tantrums complain of headaches or stomach pains withdraw plead or bargain and become irritable or angry It may take some time for the anxious feelings to disappear Worries are common Although it is normal for your child to have worries it is crucial to have your child attend school It is important they experience all that school offers and learn to cope with their fears Be sure to communicate with the school and teacher(s) about the anxiety your child may be feeling so they are better able to support your child with their worries and concerns 5 Steps to Deal with Back-to-School Worries Step 1 Take care of the basics Ensure your child is getting enough sleep eating regular meals and healthy snacks and has daily exercise When your childrsquos mind and body are nourished communicating with you and tackling school worries is easier Step 2 Provide empathy Listen to your childrsquos concerns What is she worried about Why does she expect that to happen Let your child share hisher fears and talk about whatrsquos on hisher mind Step 3 Problem solve Develop a coping plan Addressing your childrsquos fear head on by creating an active plan with concrete solutions will significantly reduce the worry For example ldquoIf (the worst) happens what could you dordquo or ldquoLetrsquos think of some ways you could handle that situationrdquo Step 4 Focus on the positive aspects Re-direct the worrying and ask your child What are three things that you are most excited for this school year Celebrate the good things about school Chances are the fun aspects are simply getting overlooked by repetitive worries Step 5 Pay attention to your own behavior Children take cues from their parents so the more confidence and calm you can model the more your child will believe she can handle this new hurdle Be supportive yet firm For instance say in a calm tone say ldquoI can see that going to school is making you scared but you still have to go Tell me what you are worried about so we can talk about itrdquo
Modified from Anxiety BC httpswwwanxietybccomparentingcoping-back-school-anxiety
Procedures help keep students safe at school Dear Families Peel schools provide a safe environment for students and staff to learn and work The board has many procedures to ensure safety mdash including regular fire drills evacuation plans criminal record checks for new staff and volunteers and lockdown hold and secure and shelter in place drills Together with Peel Police OPP and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board the board developed procedures for critical situations Every school will review the key points of the lockdown process with students We rehearse the drill twice per year to make sure staff and students know what to do if we have to initiate a lockdown During the rehearsal the principal will make an announcement to initiate lockdown procedure The school bell will ring continuously for a period of time and our goal is to make the school appear vacated Students and staff inside the school will
go to the closest room close the door and lock it if possible
turn off the lights and lie down on the floor away from doors and windows
remain on the floor quietly until further directions are given Students and staff outside the school will
move as far away from the building as possible
remain outside until further directions are given Depending on the situation students and staff outside the building may be directed to an evacuation site When the rehearsal is over the principal will make another announcement
Important things to note when an emergency occurs Students and staff must not use cell phones In these critical situations safety is our number one priority During rehearsals or in real critical situations Peel Police have advised that cell phone usage can cause more safety risks and the following consequences
Cause signal delays for emergency services to attend to the situation
Prevents police from being able to communicate with each other and other important personnel in a timely manner
Public posts and messages may identify where individuals are in the building and a pose a safety risk
Can attract attention to the area of the school where the phone is being used Parents are requested to NOT call the school or your childrsquos cell phone during emergency procedures Parents can get updates during emergency procedures on their school website Parents are requested NOT to go to the school In the unlikely event of an actual lockdown hold and secure shelter in place or bomb threat police ask that parents do not go to the school F or safety reasons you will not be allowed to enter a school that is in lockdown hold and secure or shelter in place and students and staff cannot leave the school In rare cases police will designate a Parent Information Site for you to attend and get up-to-date accurate information Please monitor your childrsquos school website and do not come to the school unless requested to do so If you have any questions about our lockdown drill or any of the procedures we have in place to keep students and staff safe please call the school

Keep students safe in school parking lots
Many elementary schools offer a Kiss ampRide program where parentsguardians can drop off
and pick up their children at a designated area on school property The program was estab-
lished to provide a convenient and safe option for our students and parents driving to school
To ensure the safety of staff and students we ask all parentsguardians be mindful of the fol-
lowing guidelines
There is no parking and no waiting in the Kiss amp Ride lane Pay attention to the traffic in front of you and
pull forward as cars move forward
Vehicles entering the Kiss amp Ride lane must stay in the designated lane unless otherwise directed by a
staff member or volunteer
The Kiss amp Ride program is only available to students who are able to disembark independently
Have your child ready to exit the car when you reach the curb Students may only exit from the passenger
(right) side of the vehicle
After picking up or dropping off your child leave promptly so that others can get in behind you
Always respect traffic flow and abide all traffic laws and signs
Kenollie Specific Guidelines and reminders for Kiss and Ride
There is no parking or driving onto Brackencrest It is not a drop off or pick
up zone for cars Use Kiss amp Ride off of Glenwood Drive instead
Parking on the North (heading West) side on Kenollie Ave is fine however
there should be no parked vehicles on the South (heading East) side as this
blocks traffic flow and creates limited sight lines and therefore is not safe for
children to walk along that street or to cross over
If using Kiss amp Ride please do not park on Glenwood Dr and wait for your
child to exit the building before pulling in Please pull right into the Kiss amp
Ride loop
If you have picked up your child at the end of the day from Kiss amp Ride please
turn right onto Glenwood and not left (please note our new sign) This ensures
the flow of traffic and will avoid congestion
Finally drop off in the morning is at 845 to 900 am If you are earlier please
note that there is no teacher supervision in the yard
Pick up at Kiss amp Ride ends at 335 pm after which students are escorted to
the office to place a call home

Transportation is not provided for students in regional programs If students have been accepted into a regional program and they live within the school boundary they are eligible for busing only if they meet the distance criteria outlined in the boardrsquos Transportation Policy 39

Pick up at Kiss amp Ride ends at 335 pm after which students are escorted to
the office to place a call home

childrsquos absence For absences longer than 5 consecutive school
days please contact the school office For extended absences
(ie family vacations) please provide a letter in advance for
the office
Included in the first day handout you were required to confirm
whether or not your child will be going home or remaining at
