NOBODY IN THE WORLD SELLS MORE REAL ESTATE THAN RE/MAX.®

Welcome to the winter edition of the RE/MAX Review. It’s been six months since the beginning of what is now known as the RE/MAX Transformation, a strategy to move RE/MAX New Zealand ahead to the next level of growth, skills and service. Already, RE/MAX Associates have enjoyed access to new and improved training and events including those of Jason Andrew and Cindy Tate, as well as an array of new webinar topics and presenters. There have been opportunities to combine with Trans-Tasman training and networking and this will continue with the upcoming Broker Retreat in Queenstown and the soon to be announced High Achievers Retreat on 10th November. Page 12 provides a checklist of some of the other opportunities coming up.

As you read this newsletter, a bright new set of advertising template materials is under development to help boost your brand awareness and lift the professional image of the RE/MAX organisation. This is backed up by a smart new consumer focused advertising campaign in print and on-line, designed to add warmth and emotion to the already well known RE/MAX brand. When completed, you’ll receive the tools you need to begin building these initiatives into your own property advertising and personal promotion.

Later this year, expect to see technology come into focus with some exciting new initiatives on the horizon.

Over the past few months I’ve enjoyed visiting RE/MAX offices across New Zealand and attending events like the RE/MAX Annual Awards in Wellington.

The feedback from talking with RE/MAX Associates about the growth of the company has been immensely valuable and perhaps the greatest opportunity we have is to build on the wonderful group of Broker Owners and Sales Associates we have in the organisation today. With the added assistance of a strengthening economy, the future for everyone involved with RE/MAX is bright!

RE/MAX affiliates from across New Zealand gathered together at the Intercontinental in Wellington on Wednesday 10 April to shine the spotlight on those RE/MAX agents who have performed to great heights and become the most productive in the region during 2012.

Michael Davoren, alongside Chris Chapman and Keith Walker, hosted the evening attended by more than 180 RE/MAX affiliates, which recognised and celebrated top offices, agents, and support teams.

Michael told guests that top performing agents are similar the world over.

“They are very serious; they want to know how they can do things differently, and better. The best see real estate not as a job but as a career. They consume education, understand and embrace technology, and know how to put all that to use for consumers.

“These are the people we acknowledge this and every awards event,” he said.

The celebration of achievements also delivered great food, flowing wine and comedic entertainment in the form of The Singing Waiters, and the night was ended by local band ‘Johnny and the Dreamboats’.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank our sponsors for their continued support of our conference and awards event; you are an important part of our business-to-business relationships.

Our sponsors include Property Press, Open2View, TradeMe Property, RPNZ, ABC Photosigns and Precise Print. All of these companies connect with our business to make us more efficient, and our relationships will only get stronger.

We look forward to seeing our agents continue to prosper this year and celebrate their achievements for this year in 2014.

With over 120 RE/MAX Sales Associates and Broker/Owners in Wellington on April 10th for the opening RE/MAX Sales Rally of the year, there was excitement in the air about RE/MAX’s direction in New Zealand.

Managing Director, Michael Davoren, told the crowd “The new ownership of RE/MAX New Zealand and RE/MAX Australia is very excited to have the skill sets from both countries to our advantage, while ensuring the two unique industry cultures remain intact”.

He said the New Zealand and Australian real estate industries can learn a lot from each other as they head towards what appears to be prosperous times.

“The affordability of real estate in most areas is better than it has been in many years, due to lower interest rates and pricing structures; and in some cases the number of participants in the industry has reduced. We also see the improving economic circumstances in the United States and some of the European economies as a factor.”

Michael also charted a course for developing sales associate and office support including technology projects, marketing initiatives and network growth.

Brendon Skipper, Head of TradeMe Property, provided an insightful commentary on online property marketing and current best practices. John McKenzie from RPNZ, launched its new product, RPNZ Essentials - Key Property Intelligence for Individual Property Professionals.

Cindy Tate, Real Estate Trainer, was the keynote speaker and discussed in detail a systemised approach to move any property from listing to sale in less time, with less fuss for everyone involved.

Cindy has ‘walked the talk’ in the sales and business world for over 13 years with 11 years in real estate. She trains from the heart and attendees described her as professional, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and above all, an energetic trainer.

A trade and supplier display featured our sponsors Property Press, Open2View, TradeMe Property, RPNZ, ABC Photosigns, Office Products Depot and Precise Print. Our partner businesses showcased their latest products and designs for both individuals and offices.

RE/MAX Sales Rally

On Tuesday, 18th June at the Novotel Hotel in Auckland, the RE/MAX Sales Rally successfully took place with RE/MAX affiliates from around the North Island travelling to learn, network and recharge.

RE/MAX affiliates joined guest speaker Australasia’s best Auctioneer, Jason Andrew as he shared his tips to align sellers with market value swiftly and effectively. Jason focused on how to effectively run a deadline sale process including Auction and Tender to arm agents with the skill and processes needed to thrive in the current environment.

To conclude the day, a charity auction was held called by Jason himself, with items under the hammer donated by Approved Suppliers including; TradeMe Property, Property Press, ABC Photosigns and RPNZ.

Awards put global focus on New Zealand at RE/MAX R4 International Convention

The 2013 RE/MAX R4 Convention held at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from 25 to 28 February was a great success with over 60 countries and more than 7,000 RE/MAX regions, Broker/Owners and Sales Associates represented.

New Zealand business owners, offices and agents were recognised and

applauded at the Convention’s awards event.

Kate Bradley, Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Elite in Nelson, won International Broker/Owner of the Year, Single Office, a title that was hotly contested by business owners across almost 90 countries globally.Rob Garlick, Broker/Owner of RE/MAX

Leaders in Wellington, again took out the top award for International Sales Volume for a Multi Office Network and the Largest Multi Office Network.

Marianne Tavenier and Ceinwen Kingsbeer from RE/MAX Villa Real Estate, Paraparaumu, ranked number ten in the International Residential Top Teams.“With over 88,000 sales associates and 6,000 offices worldwide in RE/MAX, our recognition within the global top offices, brokers and teams is a tremendous accomplishment and represents the quality and experience of our agents” said Michael Davoren.

RE/MAX New Zealand is dedicated to increasing the quality and intensity of our training and have implemented a new Sales Training programme facilitated by top real estate trainer Cindy Tate.

In June the new training programme was held in both Auckland and Wellington with Cindy reinforcing the importance of a database strategy and pricing scripts and looked at how RE/MAX resources - Design Centre and RE/MAX University, in particular - assist agents in their day to day business to help them become more successful so they can better serve their clients. All agents who attended the training agreed they wouldn’t have missed the session and were taking away valuable strategies to implement in their business. At RE/MAX we follow the philosophy the ‘more you learn, the more you earn’!

Wellington@Heart’s Family Support Worker, Denise Newton, was presented with a much-needed laptop computer by Joy Baker from RE/MAX Leaders, Kilbirnie, on behalf of RE/MAX Leaders.

Twelve babies are born with a heart defect in New Zealand every week. Almost every week, at least one of these babies becomes part of Wellington@Heart.

Wellington@Heart relies solely on donations to continue its work with over 300 families in the Wellington region who receive resources, information, education, training, counselling and psychological support, specialised equipment, camps, family matching, social affiliation and financial assistance through the organisation.

It is generous donations such as this one from RE/MAX that enables Wellington@Heart to better access families and give them the support they need.

RE/MAX associates anywhere in the world can use the rem.ax URL Shortening Tool to create shorter, cleaner links to any web page. It shrinks long – sometimes unsightly – URLs down to just 13 characters and adds the valuable RE/MAX branding.

Not only will rem.ax links be easier for people to read, remember and enter into their browser, they’re also great to use on social networks, especially when you’re trying to stay under a 140 character limit.

This tool also helps you monitor traffic to your links and provides you with a QR code you can use in your marketing materials.

Start shortening your URLs today, via the RE/MAX Mainstreet Marketing Tab.

PR resources are now building on the RE/MAX New Zealand intranet – OSL Agent Live. Current postings include instructions for the use of templates, a guide to stories that might interest the media, templates for new businesses, new business owners and new staff, template media releases written for office events such as an anniversary, a relocation or a refurbishment and good sales activity media release. These resources will continue to grow, with newsletter content soon to be added.

General franchise-based PR activity included preparing radio scripts for commenting on local market activity, media releases on in-rooms auctions and office events; promoting editorial opportunities to publicise properties on the market, resources and publicity for newly opened offices and new owner/brokers, and media releases and commentary to publicise RE/MAX expertise and achievements.

The saying goes, ‘a picture paints a thousand words’. And if you study your own habits when reading a newspaper, a magazine, a brochure and even a web page, you will probably realise that you gravitate towards visual images, particularly photographs.

Advertising research suggests that people ‘read’ a photograph three to four times more than a newspaper story of the same size.

We’d like this magazine to include loads of your photographs! Consider the photographs you submit for your magazine in the same way you would if you were submitting with a media release to your local newspaper.

Firstly, it should be a high resolution photo. That means it will generally be a large file. If you can resize it to between 900kb and 1.5mb, that would be sufficient.

Ninety per cent of newspaper photos have people in them. Keep that in mind when taking photos for your magazine too.

Public Relations Activity on the Increase

Getting The Good Shots

Whether you are sending a news photo to your local paper or a photo for your RE/MAX magazine, provide a caption describing the photo action and the names of people where realistically possible. For the magazine, the key people in the photograph will generally be enough.

Think about the photograph as telling your story as much as the words that might go with it!

And in the case of your magazine, show off the RE/MAX brand whenever you can through signage, banners, the balloon and corporate gear (but please be aware that a newspaper editor is likely to have the opposite desire when it comes to branding… and if you don’t respect the media’s call on the matter, your photo may not be used).

When it comes to this magazine though, let’s see your faces and the RE/MAX colours out in force!
