    FROM MY HOUSE

    TO YOURS

    Dear Parishioners,

The English writer and lay theologian G. K.

Chesterton once said: “The Christian ideal has not

been tried and found wanting. It has been found diffi-

cult and left untried.” Have truer words ever been spo-

ken? Chesterton seemed to understand what is clear to

anyone who takes seriously the call to Christian disci-

pleship, the following in the footsteps of Jesus means

being willing to accept a certain amount of suffering

and pain and that, at times, one might become discour-

aged and be tempted to give up.

So what helps us to keep going when the going

gets tough? How do we remain faithful to the call to

discipleship when the cross we carry gets heavy?

We are blessed and fortunate that Jesus offers

us the gift of himself in the Eucharist. Every time we

come forward to receive Holy Communion, we really

and truly receive Jesus – body, blood, soul and divin-

ity. This is meant to draw us closer to him and give us

the strength and grace needed to live more fully and

    faithfully as his disciples.

As we come forward to receive the Eucharist,

may we do so with humble and grateful hearts. By be-

ing properly disposed, we may be drawn closer to

Christ and receive the grace and strength needed to

make God’s kingdom more visible here on earth in

spite of the challenges we face along the way. Like

Joshua in our first reading, may we make a firm deci-

sion to serve the Lord in all that we do; like St. Paul in

our second reading, may we give and receive in our

relationships the strength and support we need to re-

main faithful to our call; and in order to be like Jesus

in our gospel, may we seek to imitate his example of

    mercy, love and compassion.

    God Love Ya!

    In case you didn't know,

    the Pope is coming to

    Philadelphia. Prior to

    Philadelphia, Pope Fran-

    cis will be visiting/

    speaking in Washington

    D.C. and New York He

    will be speaking to the

    President and Congress,

    the United Nations dele-

    gates and to the children,

women and men who will see him live or on

TV. We ask that you pray for Pope Francis'

safety and the success of his visits.

Prayer of Anticipation Pope Francis comes to our country in September. He will visit

our nation’s capital before attending the World Synod on the

Family in Philadelphia. This time coincides with the time

when we shift into a period of learning and change of routine

in family life. As members of the Church, we welcome the

    Pope’s presence among us.

We celebrate an opportunity to know that he is in our midst

for a brief time. Yet, we pray that, as leader of the Church,

he will awaken in our minds and hearts the importance of

    our faith in today’s society.

We pray that we will hunger for a deeper under-

standing of our faith as we participate in pro-

grams and events in our parishes that increase

our knowledge of the Catholic faith and Church

    teachings.

We pray that we will seek opportunities to deepen

our faith life through prayer, Mass

attendance and reception of the Sacraments.

We pray that family life will be nurtured by a

strong effort to practice our faith traditions and

be nurtured by our relationship with Jesus.

We pray that we will strive to grow in holiness as

we follow the example of Jesus and live as his

    disciples.

We pray that we will make an effort to discover

ways in which we can share with one another

the Gospel message and the faith we profess.

Prayer composed by: Sr. Ann Parker, Pastoral Associate,

Debbie Wheeler, Director of Religious Education

St. Anthony Parish, North Beach, Maryland

Pope Francis says....“What is the most im-portant subject you have to learn in life?” (answer: to learn how to love)

“You too, dear young people, can be joyful witnesses of His love, courageous

    witnesses of His Gospel.”

The family which experiences the joy of faith

communicates it naturally. That family is the

    salt of the earth and the light of the world;

it is the leaven of society. Pope Francis, October 27, 2013

Thank you to all those who

    volunteered or participated

    in our Vacation Bible School

    last week. The theme was

Thailand Trek and the children had fun tasting

food and playing games from Thailand. One of

their favorite songs was "Jesus is Alive" and Je-

sus was certainly alive in the spirit of the children

and volunteers. We are looking forward to plan

    for next summer's Faith Camp.

The Sacraments are a gift from Jesus Christ. All

children, regardless of the mental or physical

condition, can learn about our Faith and receive

Sacraments. To facilitate those families with

children who may need special assistance, we are

offering a Special Education Class. Please con-

tact Maryellen Carroll at the Rectory if you are

interested in accessing this class or want to

    volunteer. Thanks

Attention Parents: The class assignments for August have been posted online. If you have any

questions, please contact Maryellen Carroll. The

attachments emailed to you about the upcoming

Papal visit are for your information and for you

to pray as a family for the success and safety of

    Pope Francis in the USA.

    Affordable Catholic Education May

Be Within Reach! While we know that Catholic schools offer an excellent education and moral formation for their students, some families opt for other schools—public, charter, private, or homeschools—due to the lower price tag. Still, perhaps you wish that your child(ren) had the benefit of attending a Catholic school—just look at our standardized test scores, which have risen steadily at Archdiocesan elementary schools over the past few years!

In partnership with the Connelly Foundation, Saint Pio Catholic Regional School now has

    the opportunity to offer

    Tuition Transfer Grants

for new students who register in grades 2-6.

Any student currently attending a public, charter, home, or private school

who registers to attend Saint Pio Catholic Regional School is eligible to receive a

three-year tuition grant: $1,000 in Year One $500 in Year Two

    $300 in Year Three

A total savings of $1,800 for your family!

A limited number of grants are available in each grade, and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis beginning April 7, 2015.

While these grants are only available to new transfer students who register at Saint Pio

Catholic Regional School, they will also benefit current families by filling empty classroom seats,

which increases the school’s efficiency and revenue, and minimizes future tuition increases.

Full classrooms are the surest path to

    affordable tuition for everyone!

If you are interested in a Tuition Transfer Grant or in registering at Saint Pio Catholic Regional School, please contact Marianne Garnham, Principal at (215) 467-5430 to schedule a

    meeting or a school tour.
