parables. Our Life Group, as a spiritual family will

A mystery in the bible is a truth that you

cannot know apart from divine

revelation. In the bible a mystery is a

truth that you cannot comprehend withyour mind alone.

The Beginning of the

Kingdom (Matt. 13:1-9, 18-23)

The Parable of the Sower does not

begin with The kingdom of heaven islike because it describes how the

kingdom begins.

Word, the planting of the seed inthe hearts of people.

When we say, Let me plant thisthought in your mind, we express the

idea of this parable.

soils represent different kinds ofhearts; and the varied results show

difference is in the kinds of soils.2. The parable is Christs answer to the

objection, If the gospel be from God,

why is it not more effective? The

answer is, that, like any other remedy,much will depend on the way in which

Parable of the SOWER

Where is the fault of failure?

1. It does not lie in God, the sower. God

does not predestinate men to fail.

He willeth not the death of a sinner.2. The cause of failure is not in any

impotency of truth (but in the SOIL).

The SOWER and the SOILS

(Mark 4: 1-20)This parable helped the disciples understandwhy Jesus was not impressed by the large

crowds that followed Him.

He knew that most of them would neverproduce fruit from changed lives, because

the Word He was teaching them was like

seed falling into poor soil.

The SEED represents Gods Word

(Luke 8:11) and the SOWER is the servant

of God who shares that Word with others

(see 1 Corinthians 3:5-9).

The human heart is like SOIL:

it must be prepared to receive the seed before

that seed can take root and produce a harvest.

Like seed, the Word is alive and able to produce

spiritual fruit, but the seed must be planted and

cultivated before that harvest will come. As in

that day, so today, there are FOUR KINDS ofHEARTS and they respond to Gods message

in FOUR DIFFERENT WAYS.

In MARK CHAPTER 3, Mark records 4 responses

to JESUS:

1) The Pharisees who wants to KILL Him and

accuse Him of being demon-possessed!

2) The Crowd SEEKS him out a s a miracle worker

to be employed for the purposes.

3) His family concerned that things are getting outof hand and thinks he is mad.

4) Some people sit at His feet to listen and practice

his teaching.

THE HARD HEART

(Mark 4:4, 15) resists the Word of God and

makes it easy for Satan (the birds) to snatch

it away.

Soil becomes hard when too many feet

tread on it. Those who recklessly open theirhearts to all kinds of people and influences

are in danger of developing hard hearts

(see Proverbs 4:23)

THE HARD HEART

Hard hearts must be plowed up before they

can receive the seed, and this can be a

painful experience (Hosea 10:12).

THE SHALLOW HEART(vv. 5-6, 16-17).

This heart is like thin soil on a rock, very typical toPalestine. Since there is no depth, whatever is

planted cannot last because it has no roots.

This represents the emotional hearer who

joyfully accepts Gods Word but does not reallyunderstand the price that must be paid to become

a genuine Christian.

There may be great enthusiasm for several

days or weeks; but when

persecution and difficulties begin, the

enthusiasm wanes and the joy disappears.

It is easy for fallen human nature to

counterfeit religious feelings and give aprofessed Christian a feeling of false

confidence.

walk the broad way and the narrow way

at the same time (Matthew 7:13-14); and it

cannot be done.

THE FRUITFUL HEART

(vv. 8, 20).

This heart pictures the true

believer, because fruita

changed lifeis the evidence of

true salvation(2 Corinthians 5:17;

Galatians 5:19-23).

The other three hearts produced no fruit, so

we conclude that they belong to persons

who have never been born again.

Not all true believers are equally as

productive; but from every genuine

Christians life, there will be some evidenceof spiritual fruit.

Each of the three fruitless hearts is influenced by a

different enemy:

the hard heartthe devil himself snatchesthe seed;

the shallow heartthe flesh counterfeitsreligious feelings;

the crowded heartthe things of the worldsmother the growth & prevent a harvest.

the world, the flesh, and the devil
