V-Packings For Downhole Tools

Revata Engineering manufactures multiple-lip (Chevron) Seals or Vee Packings that consist of a group of endless rings and are usually used for sealing rods, pistons, plungers in hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic presses. V-Packings are used for low or high pressure applications with Single or Double acting cylinder. V-Packings are also used in various Oilfield Downhole equipment such as various Valves etc. V-Packings are extremely suitable for usage in medium to heavy duty applications. Vee Packings accept low and high pressure while operating in the most extreme conditions and also if there exists any misalignment between the sealing gaps. The hinge-line action of V-Packings that enables immediate reaction even to minor pressure changes is very distinctive and exclusive to a V-Packing design. Each individual lip of a V-Packing set reacts independently to pressure thus effecting a seal automatically. In case of multiple lip configurations, pressure is automatically distributed thus effecting a seal along the shaft. V-Packings also permit automatic reaction to shocks from high pressure and overloads. The V-Packing is a combination of Base Seal, the V-Ring at the center and the Pressure ring. The V-Ring is the main seal that can retain high and low pressures while the base seal supports the center ring from getting extruded during high pressure applications. The Pressure Ring helps in retaining the V Packing profile and distributing pressure equally. We stock a wide range of V Packing along with their Male and Female Adapters to suit various customer requirements.

2

Some of the standard materials in which V-Packings are available are:

Graphite, Moly, Glass filled PTFE V-Packing

Filled PTFE (Filled with Glass, Graphite, Carbon, Moly etc) V-Packing

Homogeneous NBR 90 Shore A V-Packing

NBR Vee-Packings with Fabric reinforcement V-Packing.

Viton V-Packing.

Aflas V-Packing. The right material for the V-Packings is selected based on various factors some of which are:

Operating Pressure

Operating Temperature

Tpe of Gases or Fluids within operating medium etc.

Normally Fabric V-Packings are used for High Pressure applications while Homogeneous V-Packings are used for Low Pressure applications. Installation:

A properly installed V-Packing set will usually provide better results compared to other lip-type seals. Each set contains a number of V-Rings based upon the pressure plus male and female adapters.

The V-Rings in each set are referred to as Pressure Rings.

Properly installed V-Packings will generally outperform other lip-type seals. They are always installed in sets. Each set contains a number of V-Rings (based upon the pressure) plus male and female adapters. The V-Rings in each set are referred to as pressure rings. We manufacture V-Packings in standard sizes and also as per your specific requirements.

A hammer union comprises of a thread end, a nut end and a hammer nut which, when cinched up,

compresses a composite seal assembly thereby preventing leakage.

The seal assembly comprises a metal insert of a size to pass into the seal groove of conventional

hammer unions and a small seal acting between the insert, the thread end and the nut end.

The small seal is conveniently an O-ring or a Hammer Union Seal (Lip Seal) and is of a size that is

compressed when the seal assembly is inserted into the thread end of the hammer union, thereby

preventing the seal assembly from falling out of the threaded end when it is inverted.

Some profiles such as Fig 2202, Fig 1004, Fig 1502, Fig 2002, Fig 602, Fig 1002 etc require a Hammer

Union Lip Seal or an 'O'Ring depending on the Size of the Hammer Union.

Revata Engineering manufactures Hammer Union Seals (Lip Seals) for Standard Service in Nitrile and

Fluoroelastomer for Sour Gas Service. The manufacturing process is closely monitored so as to

guarantee the correct hardness and composition. Seals from each batch are pressure tested to ensure

they meet the desired performance levels.

Revata Engineering also manufactures special Hammer Union Seals (Lip Seals) for high pressure

applications. These are available in a combination of Nitrile plus Brass anti-extrusion ring for Standard

Service or FKM plus Stainless Steel anti-extrusion ring for Sour Gas Service.

Our Seals are compatible with most OEM Hammer Union OEM’s such as Guiberson, Anson, Weco,

Kemper Valves etc. Please contact us for more information on our Hammer Union Seals (Lip Seals).

Revata Engineering manufactures packer elements from special elastomer / rubber compounds using cutting edge

molding methods. The Packer Element compound must be able to withstand very hostile environments and produce

the required isolation in Oil wells. When Packer Elements are manufactured with the right materials and installed

properly, the tools should perform at its best. The Packer Elements manufactured by Revata Engineering often stay

in Oil Wells for long periods of service and after they are retrieved, they look as if they could still function for a few

more days.

Revata Engineering Packer Elements are proven to give the desired results when they are inserted on packers and

put into the most hostile well environments. With Revata Engineering Packer Elements, the operation of tools in the

Well becomes worry free.

Revata Engineering manufactures Packer Elements and other elastomeric components for most downhole tools such

as Packers, Bridge Plugs, Tubing Anchors etc. We manufacture Packer as per your specific requirements and

material specifications.

Revata Engineering’s Cast Steel Thread Protectors with lifting bails / Lift Nubbins offer the best thread

protection with excellent lifting capabilities to ensure safe handling of Tubular Products, Drill Collars, Drill

Pipes, Downhole Tooling’s etc during manufacturing, shipping and on the rigs.

The Cast Steel Thread Protectors with lifting bails / Lift Nubbins are manufactured from steel castings in

accordance with A.S.T.M.S. No. A27 Grade 60-30 and B.S. 3100 Grade A1. The heavy-duty bails are

suitable for picking up and laying down a drill collar with the catline.

The Threads and shoulders of the Cast Steel Thread Protectors with lifting bails / Lift Nubbins are

precision machined to the requirements set by the A.P.I. Standards.

Each Cast Steel Thread Protector with lifting bail / Lift Nubbin has been load tested and inspected prior to

sale. Due to the rough nature in which drill collars are handled, Revata Engineering recommends that the

end users carry out frequent inspection to ensure that the bail is not cracked, threads are not damaged

and that proper fitting to the connection is possible.

Note: Cast Steel Thread Protectors with lifting bail / Lift Nubbins should only be used to pick up or

lay down one drill collar at the same time.

SPLIT-FLUTED DRILL PIPE / CASING PROTECTOR:

The space available between the O.D. of the Drill Pipe / Casing Protector and the interior diameter of the casing for the ‘Fluid Passage’ is of major consideration while selecting the outside diameter (O.D.) of the Drill Pipe protector. Revata Engineering’s Split-Fluted Drill Pipe / Casing Protectors offer more annulus space for ‘Fluid Passage’ and at the same time a greater level of protection of the tool joint and casing. Revata Engineering’s Split-Fluted Drill Pipe / Casing Protector allows the operator to use larger Drill Pipe / Casing Protector that would not be possible otherwise. As an example, it is possible to install a "Split-Fluted 4 1/2 ˝ x 7 1/4 ˝ Drill Pipe / Casing Protector on pipe inside 9 5/8 ˝ casing and be assured of more "fluid passage space than with a solid Drill Pipe protector measuring 6 3/4 ˝ O.D. Revata Engineering’s Split-Fluted Drill Pipe / Casing Protector thus offer more free circulation than the Solid / Smooth Drill Pipe / Casing Protector.

SPLIT-SMOOTH DRILL PIPE / CASING PROTECTOR:

Revata Engineering’s Split-Smooth Drill Pipe / Casing Protector offer the best wear performance with a low coefficient of friction and a ‘living’ hinge for easy opening and fast installation. Our Split-Smooth Drill Pipe / Casing Protector are best suited for applications where circulation is not a problem.

12

Our Drill Pipe Protectors manufactured by using high quality spring steel cage bonded with superior quality elastomer having horizontal internal grooves. This provides greater gripping power to the protectors while retaining its shape. Spiral fluted design allows streamlined flow of the drilling fluid causing least damage to the elastomeric portion. FEATURES:

Revata Engineering’s protector eliminates tool joint abrasions on the casing and stripping off in the well that can cause expensive shutdowns

Different grades of elastomer are being used to make the protectors resistance to temperature and chemical attacks oil absorption

More holding power. The steel cage is compressed onto the Drill Pipe by means of a clamping tool, putting more force into the holding power of the protector

Available in different sizes of Drill Pipes with stainless steel locking pins. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Revata Engineering’s Drill Pipe protectors are subjected to abrasion, impact, tension and high temperature upto 160°C.

They will be in contact with mud possessing max. of 10% Mineral Oil, Acids, Alkies like Oxalic Acid, Caustic Soda, Bentonite, Barites etc. We manufacture Drill Pipe / Casing ID Protectors in the following sizes: Custom sizes can be made on special order.
