Dear Parishioners,

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you….to everyone who responded so generously to this year’s Advent Giving Tree. There are many charitable organizations, that

provide great service to families in the St. Louis area, represented on this year’s Giving Tree, including the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Martha’s Hall, Wellston Center, St. Wenceslaus Food Pantry in South City and our own Holy Infant St. Vincent DePaul Society, all of whom do such great charitable work with people in need.

If you took an ornament with you when you went shopping, just a friendly reminder to return the unwrapped gift with the tag and place it under the tree in the vestibule of church by next Sunday, December 13th at 12:00 noon so that they may be delivered in time for Christmas.

On another note, the Archbishop has called for every parish in the Archdiocese to conduct its own "Parish Planning and Viability Study," whose purpose it is to assist the local Church in charting its future.

The resources available to the Church are limited, and so as mergers, consolidations, twinning and closing of parishes becomes a necessity, the Archdiocese wants to act on these eventualities using the best information available.

We have been instructed to conduct the parish study in two phases. We are in the process of gathering responses from the parish staff and leadership. All of the members of our Parish Council are also participating in this process. We have copies of the survey available in the vestibule of church for any and all in our parish who would like to offer feedback. We ask that those who complete the entire survey return it to the parish office by Monday, December 21st. After parishioners have completed the survey (and be forewarned: it is extensive) we will hold a forum at which those on our Leadership Team will work over a period of several hours to come up with consensus numbers which then will be forwarded to the Archdiocese. The meeting of the leadership group took some two hours to conduct, and I anticipate this larger parish forum will take at least that long, for there are over 120 questions, as well as additional questions for determining future parish structures. Thanks, in advance, to all who so willingly support the mission and ministry of Holy Infant.

On a final note, I extend a word of gratitude to Mrs. Marge Steudeman who will be retiring this month. She has been a wonderful part of our rectory staff for many years. Marge was hired by Msgr. Jerome Buchheit many years ago and has provided such great and dedicated service to our community. She has generously shared her gifts in the office in many ways, including: warmly greeting people at the rectory door, creating calendars and schedules, gathering all the necessary information for our annual Parish Guidebook, coordinating Mass intentions, fielding countless telephone calls, creating many great bulletins, writing the prayers of the faithful as well as the announcements for our Sunday liturgies. I extend our gratitude and admiration to Marge for her goodness to Holy Infant and wish her a wonderful and joyful retirement!

God’s blessings to you and your families, F I C The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is on Tuesday, December 8th. It is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be held at: 6:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. This feast celebrates the saving work of God in preserving the Blessed Virgin Mary from the stain of original sin.

Immaculate Conception, December 8, 2015 and ends on the Solemnity of Christ the King, November 20, 2016. December 8th is an appropriate time for us to unite as a nation to pray to establish a Culture of Life,

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be held on Saturday, December 12th at a 10:00 a.m. Mass. Following Mass, there will be a reception in the upper cafeteria.

Anyone who is ill (chronic or acute), experiencing the frailty of old age, facing surgery, or having emotional or mental problems is invited to join us for this celebration.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, "This sacred anointing of the sick was instituted by Christ our Lord as a true and proper sacrament of the New Testament. It is alluded to indeed by Mark, but is recommended to the faithful and promulgated by James the apostle and brother of the Lord" (CCC 1511; Mark 6:13; Jas. 5:14-15).

The anointing of the sick conveys several graces and imparts gifts of strengthening in the Holy Spirit against anxiety, discouragement, and temptation, and conveys peace and fortitude (CCC 1520).”

A homeless Iraq war veteran and a few other homeless people need help to get them established so they can find a job and support themselves. $2,000.00 per each person would go towards establishing a residence for them so they could be hired (many employers will not hire the homeless). The $2,000.00 goes towards first and last month's rent, furniture, bedding, etc. Some also need cars (to get to and from work). If everyone gives something, just think what we can do for these people. For more info, please contact Kim Brunnworth (The Red, White and Blue Tour for Homeless Veterans), (314) 564-5899, on Facebook—https://www.facebook.com/rwbtourveterans/ or donate at http://www.rwbtourveterans.org/.
