Looking forward to celebrating with you! -

What are some Pritzker traditions that haven’t changed since you were a student? The tradition of “liver rounds” lives on in its new name of Social Rounds. Every Friday afternoon, the fourth year students organize an all-school, end-of-the-week happy hour that is well-attended and often supplemented with food from a variety of cuisines.

What is your favorite memory of your time as a medical student? One of my favorite memories is of our senior skit, when I got to play the role of the security guard at the entrance to the Brain-Research Pavilion. It was a memorable role in keeping with one of the comical parts of our institution.

How would you describe your class (Class of 1983)?Fun and funny! The class was friendly, socially conscious, and able to engage with a broad range of intellectual pursuits with creativity and a zest for living.

What will be new to someone who just visited campus last year versus someone who hasn’t been back since 1983?For the person who hasn’t been back since 1983, they will be shocked by the development on 53rd street, and equally shocked by the North Sciences Quadrangle and the newest hospital, the CCD. In addition, the Biological Sciences Learning Center, Comer Children’s Hospital, the Gordon Center for Integrative Science, the Knapp

What similarities do you see between today’s medical students and those of past years? What are the most noticeable differences? The similarities include the strength of the intellect combined with a passion for the social mission, along with creativity, and a passion for life. What’s different? The haircuts, the laptops, the cell phones!

What is the biggest curriculum change that has taken place in the past three decades? The biggest change is our brand new curriculum ̶ the Pritzker Initiative: A Curriculum for the 21st Century. The major changes include the introduction of Scholarship & Discovery as a required four-year curricular element; the addition of the required first-year Health Care Disparities course; and Anatomy is no longer a full-year course, but a course that is completed between August and October.

Center for Biomedical Discovery, and even the Starbucks on the corner of 57th and Drexel will all be new to them! That part of campus has been completely transformed.

For someone who was here during the last Reunion, the new Emergency Department and Trauma Center will have opened by the time we gather for Reunion.

Whether your last visit to campus was last year or the day you graduated, you will find a number of changes at the Pritzker School of Medicine when you return for Reunion weekend. As an alumna celebrating her 35th Reunion and now as dean of medical education at the Pritzker School of Medicine, Holly Humphrey, MD’83, has seen the majority of those changes firsthand.
