Edible plants are certainly nothing new; What’s new is the inclusion of them in urban, commercial and municipal landscapes. Urban food forests, permaculture, & community gardens are becoming mainstream. Parkland Nursery grows many edible trees, shrubs and perennials. Below are some of the newest to our nursery:

Apples

Malus x ‘Honeycrisp’, Honeycrisp Apple Medium to large-sized apple, with exceptionally crisp and juicy texture. Outstanding flavor and texture can be maintained in storage for 6 months. Matures in late September. Developed by University of Minnesota. Excellent for home and commercial production.

Malus x ‘Millstream, Millstream Apple Heavy producer with large 7cm fruit. Fruit colour is red washed over yellow. Very crisp excellent fresh eating. Matures early September.

Malus x ‘Prairie Magic’, Prairie Magic Apple The medium to large-sized fruit matures in mid-September and is crisp and delicious. Developed by Wilfred Drysdale of Manitoba

Malus x ‘Prairie Sun’, Prairie Sun Apple Semi-dwarf tree produces 7cm yellow-cream fruit with distinctive pink blush. The flesh is fine textured, crisp and juicy. Good for fresh eating and excellent for processed products. A University of Saskatchewan introduction.

Malus x ‘Red Duchess’, Red Duchess Apple A red selection of 'Duchess of Oldenburg'. Very hardy, medium to large sized red apple. Fruit is tart and juicy. Good for eating, but best for pies and sauces. Abundant fruit, annual bearer. Short storage life.

Malus x ‘Red Sparkle’, Red Sparkle Apple Very hardy tree. Medium sized fruit with a distinctive nutty, fruity taste. Stores well, ripens late September. A Morden Research Station introduction.

Malus x ‘September Ruby’, September Ruby Apple Heavy yielding bright red apple that ripens in mid-September. Good for fresh eating, cooking and storing.

Prunus x kerrassis ‘Crimson Passion’, Crimson Passion Cherry Highest sugar content. Excellent fresh eating cherry. Fruit size is large
