SERVICE Extension
Training Programs: Over 500 extension presentations including county meetings, in-service and CCA trainings, workshops field day, scout schools and other programs at local/county, regional and national level. Insecticide and IPM Testing and Demonstration: Extensive program with 30-60 replicated trials done annually for screening of insecticides, comparison of Bt cotton traits, etc. Website development: Leader in development of www.utcrops.com website and the UTcrops News Blog (http://news.utcrops.com/) including general design, coordination and administration (numerous written and graphic contributions). The news blog format recently replaced the old IPM Newsletter format. Articles are published weekly during the season and intermittently the rest of the year. Prior to adopting the blog format, there were a total of 207 issues of the IPM Newsletter published between 2002 and 2011 when I served as editor. Cotton Insect Situation: Weekly contributions to newsletter during the growing season from 1995-1999 (Mississippi State University). Diagnostics: Numerous field visits, phone calls, insect identifications related to pest management problems in cotton, corn, soybean, and wheat. Phone contact where caller is seeking consultation
44
exceeds 1,500- 2,000 calls annually. 30-40 field visits annually. Clientele groups include private industry, crop consultants, Extension agents, and growers. I annually receive 30-50 visits or phone calls related to household, garden or other general entomology problems encountered by local, non-agricultural homeowners and businesses. Contributions to Articles: Over 250 written contributions, interviews, and/or quotes. Primarily in regionally or nationally distributed trade journals such as Delta Farm Press, Cotton Farming, Corn and Soybean Digest, MidAmerica Farmer, Corn South, etc. Radio and TV Programs: Approximately 30 programs which also includes a web-based Virtual Soybean Scout School for which I was the lead P.I. (http://www.utextension.utk.edu/fieldCrops/ soybean/VSSchool.htm). Pheromone Trapping Program: Multi-county moth trapping for beet armyworm, bollworm, tobacco budworm and southwestern corn borer in Tennessee from 2003-2013. Statewide pheromone trapping program for southwestern corn borer was also done at Mississippi State University (1996-1999).
